Chapter 14 - The End on the Lips of a Kiss

They headed back to their base, with names and secrets exposed. The Attorney General, after his confession, was tied down—

he gave away the plan… and her father's name.

Maya froze.

There were still more behind it all.

With Edward's brother, they followed the trail to the final location—

one last den of corruption.

A final file. A final breath of truth.

There, a gunfight was avoided—

but not fate.

Edward's brother stood beside him, guarding his flank.

In a quiet moment, he said:

"I never thought we'd fight together again."

Edward replied, eyes fixed on the screen:

"I never thought I could forgive you."

But as they spoke, a shadow shifted—

a sniper aiming for Edward.

His brother saw it first.

"Edward, down!"

He didn't wait.

He jumped in front of him.

One shot.

Straight through the chest.

He collapsed in Edward's arms, smiling through the blood.

"Mom was right about you... You care more than you show.

Stay alive, brother. Please… stay alive…"

Then silence.

Edward's scream broke through the rooftop night.

He cried, raw and broken.

He had lost his only blood—his ally.

But the fight wasn't over.

He gathered his strength, wiped the tears, and ran.

Maya hadn't returned.

He found her on the rooftop, just as the files were being broadcast.

She stood in the wind, holding the final documents.

And then the truth hit them.

Two women.

Two mothers.

Both murdered in the same hotel.

On the same day.

By the same hand.

Their lives…

forever tied by one bullet of fate.

Maya looked at Edward.

He looked at her.

And for the first time—

They smiled, full of grief, but also victory.

He stepped closer.

Their eyes filled with tears, and light, and ruin.

They leaned in—

and their lips met.

Just as they kissed—

Bang. Bang.

Two bullets.

Their bodies dropped.

Side by side.

As if fate wanted the ending it had promised long ago.

The Day After

Chaos.

The city shook.

The system fell.

People poured into the streets holding two pictures:

One—of two mothers, murdered together.

The other—of two lovers,

who died just as their pain had begun:

The same day.

The same place.

The same bullet.

"Sometimes legends are not written in books,"

"but on sidewalks… on walls… in the eyes of those left behind."

I'm just a girl—

Born after everything fell.

After the streets were named after them.

But I heard the story.

From my grandmother's lips.

From drawings on the walls by the children of the neighborhood.

Maya —

the girl once called the daughter of evil,

who became the voice of justice.

Edward —

the man of law who defied the system,

and followed his heart to the very end.

They say they died on the rooftop of an old building.

They say they kissed… just before the end.

As if love only needs a second to become eternity.

No one dares erase their image from the wall across the school.

And every year, the city remembers—

Not as an end, but a beginning.

They taught us that love is not weakness.

That revenge is never enough.

That truth… must be chosen.

And that the bravest die standing—like they did.

In my city, there are two stone statues:

One—for their mothers.

And one—for Maya and Edward, holding each other.

At the base of the statue, engraved in stone:

"A kiss that ended a story…

Began the freedom of a whole generation."

💌 A thank you letter from Sara Maysem – to the first ones who believed in her words:

To those who reached the end of this story…

To those who didn't just read the beginning,

but dove deep into Maya's tears and Diana's frost.

To those who read silently,

who felt, trembled, and finally smiled.

I was never a famous writer.

No story I wrote was perfect.

But I wrote from my heart—just as I am, just as I dreamed.

You're not just readers…

You're the first ones my characters ever truly heard.

Thank you for walking the path with me.

Thank you for staying until the end.

You were few…

But you were everything.
