After a brief silence, Daniel Carter hesitantly asked, "Is that really the reason?"
It seems he's somewhat convinced by my excuse.
"Of course, what else could it be?" I calmly and confidently retorted.
Thankfully, it was over the phone.
If we were face to face, I'd definitely be panicking right now.
"I thought you were avoiding me, wanting to leave for good." His cool voice held a hint of displeasure.
My heart skipped a beat, but I forced a calm smile and replied, "You're overthinking it. We've been broken up for so long. If I wanted to hide, I would have disappeared by now."
Silence resumed on the other end.
I knew it was time to hang up.
Otherwise, the more I said, the more likely I'd reveal something.
But just as I was about to say goodbye, he suddenly asked, "Did you move?"
A buzzing filled my ears, and I instantly understood that he had tried to find me again recently.
