Chapter eight
Pete and Jenny get to know their new friend better
Pete, Jenny, and their new friend sat within the walls of an amazing hall that resembled a chamber. A large golden table and sixteen chairs surrounded them as they discussed. Their new friend had helped them escape from the lower chamber, where a war raged between enemies and defenders.
"Excuse me, sir, but does it ever get dark in the land of gold?" Jenny inquired. "We've been here so long that I've lost track of time; it never seems to get dark since we arrived," she added.
"Yes, my friends, it never gets dark here. You've been here for eleven years without a single day of rest!" the good friend replied.
"Oh my God," Pete and Jenny exclaimed. "Eleven years, Sir? Is that true?"
"Indeed, I've been here for 64 years, after spending 200 years as a statue," the good friend explained.
"How is that possible?" Peter asked. "We've only been here for eleven years, but you've been here for 64 years and 200 years as a statue, totaling 264 years?"
"In the land of gold, I've spent a total of 264 years since entering. Although I should only be 64 years old, my parents and I entered when I was 14. Fifty years later, after numerous failed escape attempts, I was killed by a snake. When you die in this place, you turn into a statue, only to return to life when touched by an intruder. I can show you the secrets of this land, but I cannot help you escape," the good friend concluded.
Pete and Jenny were shocked by his story. "How can you show us the secrets if you've never escaped, Sir?" asked Jenny.
The good friend shared more about the dangers of escaping the land of gold, emphasizing that those who try to flee are hunted down by dangerous creatures. He warned Pete and Jenny to be careful and not attempt an escape.
After a meal in the good friend's golden room, they explored the garden filled with food and water. The good friend explained the dangers and wonders of the land, cautioning them about touching certain creatures that could come alive.
As they absorbed the information, Pete and Jenny realized the complexities of the land of gold. They were determined to find a way out, despite the risks involved.
The good friend shared more secrets about the land, including stories of rich and powerful men who had escaped but turned into statues or disappeared. Pete and Jenny were left in awe of the mysteries surrounding the land of gold, unsure of what their next steps should be.
