Both Kaelith and Sana turned toward the door at the sudden sound of hurried footsteps. For a moment, they were too stunned to react and then the door burst open with a loud thud.
A little boy, no more than five, stood panting at the entrance. His ginger hair was adorably tousled, sticking up in odd directions, proof enough that he'd been fast asleep just moments ago before running here in a hurry. His cheeks were flushed from the effort, his eyes bright with childlike indignation.
"Mumma! Dad's lap is mine!" he shouted the instant he saw his mother sitting comfortably where he believed only he should be. Without wasting a second, he dashed across the room, his tiny feet pattering against the floor like raindrops.
Sana's lips curved into a smile despite herself. She shook her head, amused by her son's fiery declaration. "Oh, Henry…" she muttered under her breath, watching how determined he looked.
