Chapter 18 - Ch: 17

Character Summary for This Chapter

Ten years until the dawn of the Great Pirate Era.

Affiliation: The Georges FamilyKanata

The protagonist of this work. 15 years old. A human frozen by the Hie Hie Fruit.

Bounty: 380 million berries for the "Dragon Slayer Witch."

A beautiful young woman with black hair and red eyes. She has matured over five years, developing where she needs to and holding back where she should. Over five years, she has unknowingly attracted many admirers with questionable tastes.

She is strong even unarmed, but primarily uses a spear.

She established a regular shipping route connecting several islands with Marx Island as her base. She was once obstructed by merchants with established interests who claimed their business was being threatened, but when Kanata went to greet them humbly, they usually relented. She has become so skilled at navigating the world that she is feared by Georges.

Despite frequent pirate attacks, she has successfully repelled them, earning a reputation as a reliable merchant and courier who can safely transport goods. However, troubles often came like bombs, and by the time anyone noticed, it was already too late.

Over the course of five years, she became more bloodthirsty. She picked up Feiyun of the Giant Tribe and Zen of the Mink Tribe. Once again, Georges' face turned into a hundred different expressions, but she simply reached out her hand without batting an eyelid.

She had mastered the ability to freely manipulate Observation Haki, Armament Haki, and Conqueror's Haki, and could now fight on par with Junshi. She fought Sengoku with death-defying resolve, and in the narrow gap between life and death, she briefly surpassed Sengoku's perception, knocking him into the sea and escaping.

She survived by being picked up by the Roger Pirates, who happened to be in the West Blue. During a fight with CP-0, she mastered the Six Powers (excluding "Paper Arts") just by watching them.

Her Devil Fruit abilities have grown in strength proportional to her own abilities, allowing her to manipulate the weather.

She was raised like a sister to Robin (mainly with Robin doting on her one-sidedly, and Kanata passively accepting it), forming a bond stronger than that of family. Her greatest concern was that the government would target Ohara, who was closely connected to Kanata, but fortunately or unfortunately, Marx Island was reduced to a wasteland by a Buster Call.

Both physically and mentally, she is "too strong" compared to ordinary people, giving her an almost inhuman appearance. And she will only grow stronger from here on out.

The director of the orphanage where she was raised reportedly muttered, "A bounty hunter...?" when a wanted poster for Kanata was widely circulated. Seeing his parents' features still visible despite the pseudonym, the director reportedly showed a complicated expression.

Junshi

A man with red hair and a muscular build. 28 years old.

After training Kanata for five years, she became as strong as himself, which is making him a bit anxious. He leads a stable life but has grown tired of the monotony and was considering leaving the organization when Feiyun and the others appeared. Before he knew it, he had killed a Celestial Dragon and became a fugitive. He laughed and decided that staying under Kanata would give him more opportunities to fight without much effort.

He often fights bare-handed, but claims he is stronger with a spear. He can handle both Observation and Armament Haki at a high level and can harden his entire body into armor, but he doesn't particularly like doing so. He specializes in Observation Haki and is developing a unique ability to read his opponents' movements while preventing them from reading his own.

Within the Georges family, he serves as a bodyguard for half the time and as a guardian for Kanata and Kuro for the other half. He doesn't think of it that way himself, but his nurturing nature naturally led him into that role.

He is from the Flower Country. He was formerly part of the Happo Navy and was Don Chinjao's favorite disciple. He mastered the advanced techniques of the Hasshoken at a young age, but he lacked the temperament to lead others and did not get along with Chinjao, so he left the army.

If he had followed the conventional path, he would have become the deputy commander under Sai, Chinjao's grandson, and made significant contributions to the Happo Navy. However, in this timeline, that did not happen.

He is strong enough to fight Don Chinjao, who boasts a bounty of 500 million, but he has been feeling that he is just one step short for a long time.

Kuro

A young man with black hair, black eyes, and brown skin covered in tattoos. 22 years old.

A dark human from the Yami Yami no Mi. He is technically considered a member of the Georges family, but he is completely useless in a fight and weaker than Georges.

However, his unique ability makes him exceptionally strong against ability users, as he can simply pull them toward him, allowing Junshi to defeat them. He himself describes it as "like an antlion's pit."

His ability was particularly effective when fighting against someone with the Ishi Ishi Fruit ability. However, since he is weak himself, he hasn't become as much of an ability user killer as the original Teach.

He cannot use Haki. He still acts on his curiosity, so people often think he's "cat-like," but he seriously says, "I'm a dog, right? I'd bite my owner out of excitement."

Despite that, he follows Kanata around, wagging his tail, because he's been helped in various ways. He's really a dog after all.

He's prone to getting lost due to his lack of worldly knowledge and curiosity, so Kanata doesn't want to take him on the ship. He's usually found where there's a commotion.

Left behind as Georges' bodyguard, he's basically weak and useless. Still, if he uses his abilities, he can handle ordinary people, so he's not entirely unnecessary.

On Marx Island, he freely displayed his tattooed body, so while he wasn't discriminated against, he was definitely avoided. When he heard that the island had been reduced to a wasteland by the Buster Call, he didn't think much of it.

Georges

A tall man with black hair and black eyes, standing about two meters tall (though among the giant race, he's only average-sized for humans). He's 30 years old.

He's still a coward and has his share of troubles. Lately, he's been smoking more because Kanata keeps bringing him problems. Despite that, he's quite successful as a merchant and is now the richest man on Marx Island. Seeing his growing fortune makes him smile.

Due to the increasing workload and lack of manpower, he has gathered former thugs from all over Marx Island who were once like him and hired them as laborers, thereby improving the island's employment rate and security.

As a result, when the galleon ship they were on returned to Marx Island, he was deemed "connected" and forced to use the Golden Den Den Mushi by Admiral Zephyr (though it was actually an order from the World Government).

When the newspaper reported that Marx Island had been reduced to a wasteland, he couldn't fully grasp the reality that his siblings, old acquaintances, the old man at his favorite bar, and the childhood friend who had recently started to see him in a new light were all dead. Still, as time passed, he came to understand that he would never see them again, and though he briefly resented Kanata, he decided it was pointless to dwell on the past, as they had already made their decision five years ago.

He wasn't entirely free of lingering feelings, but he still had enough rationality to know that telling Kanata about them would be pointless.

Scotch

A stocky man with blond hair and blue eyes. Wears sunglasses. 30 years old.

He became a central figure in the Georges family as a navigator. He was overjoyed at the chance to repay the captain of the merchant ship that had taken him in, but when he heard that the woman he loved was marrying another man, he drowned his sorrows in alcohol.

Lately, he seems to enjoy talking to Kathy at his regular bar. He cried again when she died in the Buster Call.

He has explored most of the western seas, but there is one place he has never been to. When Marx Island was reduced to ashes, he cried and withdrew for three days and nights, but seeing the cowardly Georges recover, he resolved, "If I don't do something, I'm not a man," and rallied.

He seems to be looking for a new love. Love is always like a hurricane, so I'm sure he'll find a good match someday. Probably.

Feiyun

A giantess with long lavender hair and amethyst-colored eyes. 38 years old.

She's the oldest, but in human years, she's still in her teens. She's not much older than Kanata, but she's grown close to her over time.

A giant human from the "Size-Size Fruit." Maximum length: 170 meters.

From the village of Elbaf. She knows about Big Mom (Charlotte Linlin) when she was living in the Sheep's House, but Big Mom doesn't remember her. After becoming a pirate, Big Mom killed Feiyun's parents.

She narrowly escaped with her life, but when she was at her wit's end, she met Zen, who helped her get food and water. She was later attacked by pirates under the Golden Lion's command, who were after the power of the Devil Fruit she had accidentally eaten.

She escaped to the West Sea through the Calm Belt and was picked up by one of the Five Great Families of the West while wandering with Zen. They offered her food and water in exchange for fighting, and though Zen hesitated, they ultimately had no choice but to fight. Without food and water, even a giant couldn't survive.

She fought twice against a user of the Ishi Ishi Fruit. The first battle was more of a skirmish, as both were meeting for the first time, but the battlefield was chaotic. When the leaders of both organizations were wiped out and the battlefield descended into chaos, they both retreated.

In the second battle, she resolved to fight with all her might. Despite her Devil Fruit ability, the battle turned into a monster showdown, but her opponent was one step ahead, and she was overwhelmed and sealed.

In a direct power struggle, she might not have won, but she wouldn't have lost either.

She felt indebted to Kanata, the only person of the same gender who had looked out for her, and pleaded with her to let her board the ship, which Kanata granted without hesitation.

She was about to be enslaved by the Celestial Dragons, but Kanata slaughtered them along with CP-0, so she feels even more indebted to her. She even thinks of Kanata as a mother figure and is willing to go to great lengths to fulfill her wishes.

While she can use her abilities on land, she cannot use them on a ship, which is somewhat of a disadvantage.

She was born with the ability to use Observation Haki. She can strongly sense others' emotions, which has made her increasingly distrustful of humanity. Kanata, however, treated her without any particular thoughts, which apparently saved her.

Zen

A Mink Tribe member with black-brown hair. 37 years old.

He resembles a centaur, but unlike the mythical creature, his upper body is human, while the head of a horse is where a human head should be. He has four legs and two arms. Like all Mink Tribe members, he can manipulate electricity and use the "Sulong" transformation gained by gazing at the full moon.

He is a master with a spear and can use Observation Haki and Armament Haki at a high level.

Originally, he crossed the New World's seas alone, traveling to various countries to train as a warrior. He decided that only those he deemed strong enough would be allowed to ride on his back, and while Kanata and Junshi met his standards, they were not his favorites.

When he washed ashore in Wano Country, he met Kozuki Sukiyaki and stayed there for a time. In the isolated nation of Wano, Kozuki Sukiyaki, a great daimyo, rarely went to battle, but when he did, he was said to ride on Zen's back and dash across the battlefield at incredible speed.

After that, he set out again on his martial arts training journey. During his travels, he found Feiyun, who was being attacked by a pirate crew under the Golden Lion Pirates, and saved her, thereby drawing the attention of the Golden Lion Pirates.

After a grueling battle, he judged that he could no longer continue and crossed the calm belt into the Western Sea. He was taken in by one of the Five Great Families of the West along with Feiyun, and was forced to fight as a mercenary in exchange for food and water.

Feiyun refused to fight and insisted that she would fight alone, but her plea was ignored, and the two of them were forced into battle. As a result, both organizations suffered devastating losses. Later, a user of the Ishi Ishi Fruit's abilities contacted them, offering water and food in exchange for their cooperation, and they reluctantly agreed.

However, growing tired of the situation, they raided the ship and attempted to escape, where they encountered Kanata and her group.

He had grown quite fond of Feiyun, and despite having no wife, he felt as though he were raising a child. When he received word that CP-0 was pursuing them, he immediately jumped off the ship and raced to protect Feiyun, using his Electro abilities to swiftly intercept them.

Due to his actions, he had often been targeted for persecution or enslavement. After hearing the details of Kanata's killing of a Celestial Dragon, he resolved to follow her from that point onward.

Affiliation: Lars FamilyDrevann

A stocky, tall man with short black hair and a shaved part. 35 years old.

He leads the Lars Family, one of the Five Great Families of the West. He is one of the victims in this chapter.

He had planned to buy a Devil Fruit from the Wooden Pirates (though he was skeptical), but by chance, Kanata and the others attacked and took it during a counterattack.

Additionally, his territory was ravaged by giants (Feiyun), and his attempts to recruit members from two destroyed families failed, leaving him exhausted and increasing his alcohol consumption.

In terms of combat strength, he has enough men to face Chinjao's Happo Navy head-on, but Chinjao is too powerful, and they are easily defeated.

Affiliation: Happo NavyChinjao

Also known as "Chinjao the Drill." Has a conical head. Original character. 44 years old.

Bounty: 542 million berries. Has frequently faced off against Garp. The second victim in this chapter.

Due to the visit of the Celestial Dragons to Flower Country, he was tasked with various impossible demands by higher-ups, but he accepted the position of middle manager to maintain the benefits of being connected to the country. He is worried that his hair is thinning. It was always sparse, so no one notices.

While gathering various supplies, he was told to "do something" about the instability caused by the Five Great Families in the West Sea, and in his efforts to find a solution, one of Flower Country's ports was completely destroyed, requiring a large sum of money. He tried to make Kanata and the others pay, but instead was given the actual Devil Fruit.

He sold all three at an auction: one to the Lars Family, one to a collector who took it beyond the calm belt to the North Blue, and one to an old wealthy man.

He thought he had gotten rid of all his troubles before the Celestial Dragons arrived, thanks to Kanata and the Georges family, but then he was hit with the biggest bombshell.

He could defeat Junshi in a fair fight, but during the battle, Kanata caught him off guard, and he couldn't respond in time, losing consciousness.

The King of Flower Country scolded him severely, and he muttered with a wrinkled face, "I didn't do anything wrong..." Even Garp, who had come to challenge him during the Buster Call, felt sorry for him and didn't accept the challenge.

Affiliation: NoneDonquixote Krysaor Saint

A Celestial Dragon. A man with blonde hair and gold eyes. The uncle of Doflamingo and Rosinante.

He came to Flower Country under the pretense of an inspection to search for rare items. Among the Celestial Dragons, he has a relatively normal sensibility, but it's only because he's searching for rare items that his sensibility is closer to that of ordinary people.

Like most Celestial Dragons, he believes that commoners should sacrifice everything for him and that he is entitled to anything he desires.

His downfall began when he heard rumors about Feiyun and summoned her. He attempted to enslave Feiyun for being rare and also considered enslaving Kanata for her beauty.

Enraged, Kanata slaughtered his guards and killed him as well. He got what he deserved.

The Celestial Dragons were enraged and, fearing Kanata's defiance of their authority, placed a massive bounty on her head. The bounty reached an unprecedented height, partly because she had managed to escape from Sengoku.

This incident also apparently affected his younger brother, Donquixote Homing Saint...

Affiliation: Lowell Pirate CrewLowell

A man with disheveled long black hair and a massive build of about three meters. 42 years old.

A human who has assimilated into rock due to the Ishi Ishi Fruit.

His name was not mentioned in the main story. Technically, he was a bodyguard for a family, but after the family he worked for was destroyed, he took over and started calling himself a pirate crew.

One of the two individuals responsible for the destruction of two of the Five Great Families of the West (the other being Feiyun).

He believed his own strength to be unmatched and sought to become the king of the Western Sea through years of rigorous training. He planned to start by destroying one of the Five Great Families and use it as a foothold to conquer the rest, but stumbled at the first step.

Having spent years honing his skills, he is correspondingly strong, and aside from his inability to use Haki, he possesses the strength to genuinely conquer the Western Sea. However, this is assuming he doesn't encounter interference from the Navy.

Coco

A transparent human thanks to the "Clear-Clear Fruit."

While his ability to become invisible gives him an advantage initially, it was ineffective against Kanata and others who can use Observation Haki. Moreover, his ability was exposed through sheer brute force before the Observation Haki even came into play, rendering it even more meaningless.

His raw combat ability is on par with Georges.

Affiliation: Roger PiratesRoger

A man with a rugged face. His trademark is a straw hat. An original character from the manga. 43 years old.

When his first mate, Rayleigh, tried to break the ice floe, he picked up a girl and was amazed.

He loves freedom above all else and primarily operates in the "New World," the latter half of the Grand Line. He came to the West Blue out of boredom and spent his time fishing.

At present, he is far stronger than Kanata, and when he learned that Kanata had escaped from Sengoku, he laughed heartily and acknowledged her strength.

He says he has a feeling they will meet again someday.
