Chapter 4 - New beginning

He woke up to the sound of student voices, the noise slowly increasing. He got up and saw everyone running around, playing. Some of them were teasing others and having fun. The environment was cheerful, and he had a smile on his face.

Suddenly, a pillow struck him in the face. He looked around and saw five boys in school uniforms. Four of them were laughing, and the one in the middle seemed serious and angry. He asked the boy to give his pillow back. The boy returned it with a smile on his face.

They were a group of boys who seemed like villains. They didn't appear to respect others. Everyone was afraid of them. Their names were Stor, Faller, Linder, Orifist, and the leader's name was Desart Weldon. He was one of the most powerful magical students, so everyone feared and respected him. No one ever dared to smile at him—so he was surprised when Cristerfor smiled at him.

Desart got the idea that Cristerfor was different. He asked, "Are you new here?"

Cristerfor replied, "Yes, I'm new. Actually, I've only been here for a few hours."

"Oh, so a new student. Show me what you got," Desart asked.

"Actually, I'm new here, so I don't have anything," Cristerfor replied.

Usually, every student in the Power House knew how to use magic because their parents were also once magical. Seeing that Cristerfor couldn't use magic, Desart assumed he was very weak and didn't consider him a competition. So, he smiled at him and walked away.

Everyone nearby was surprised—Desart was the one who never smiled at anyone.

Then one of the boys, fat and with a very childish voice, came closer to Cristerfor. He said, "Hello, my name is Neon. What's your name?"

"My name is Cristerfor," he replied.

Neon asked, "Oh, so you're new here and you already have Desart as a friend? I'd guess you're very powerful."

Cristerfor said, "I don't think so, I just got here and I—"

But Neon stopped him. "Come on, I'll show you the school."

They started walking together. On the way, Neon told him everything about Desart—how powerful and merciless he was, how he didn't care about anyone, and how he had even killed three students here.

Cristerfor stopped in his tracks, and Neon looked back. Cristerfor's face looked terrified. He remembered what the headmaster had said, and he went blank. Neon shook him and said, "Hey, you don't have to be afraid. He was punished for that. I don't think anyone will do the same thing again."

Cristerfor asked, "He killed someone and he's still… free?"

Neon looked a bit confused. "What do you mean by freedom? Haha, are you joking?"

Cristerfor was confused because he was from the human world and was thinking in the way things worked there. He asked, "Are there any jails here?"

Neon replied, "Why are you so unaware of basic things? There's one jail for all. Actually, it's not called a jail—it's a place for people who harm others."

Cristerfor asked, "Where is it?"

Neon replied, "No one knows. No one claims to have seen it. But my father told me it's a real place. People who do something wrong here just disappear automatically, and where they go is the place where evil lives. But I don't believe in that. Most people don't. They believe that when someone does something wrong here, they lose their memory and are sent to the human world—reborn—to live their life in a different world. I heard the human world is actually heaven. I've read a lot of stories, and I wish I was born there."

Cristerfor smiled, and they reached the school grounds.

Cristerfor looked around—and what he saw was something he could never have imagined. The school was massive, located at the top of a hill. From there, everything could be seen. Where they were standing was the school hostel, which itself was as big as a mountain. Below, beyond the clouds, there were many towns, each separated by dense forests.

Cristerfor stepped a little closer to the edge, which was covered by a transparent magical spell. He asked, "What are those towns?"

Neon replied, "Those are the departments. Oh! I forgot to ask—which department are you in?"

He replied, "I'm in the Power Division."

Neon was a little shocked. "Oh…" He then pointed to one of the towns that looked like a full city from the human world—bigger than New York. That was just one department of the school.

Cristerfor asked, "Are there only those 7 departments?"

Neon replied, "No, there are many other departments that haven't been explored yet. The dense forest contains many magical things that can't be explained. And we can't teleport until we discover the department."
