The next night we were already on our way toward the borders. Lucien had to stay behind, since it wasn't safe enough for him to travel this far. At least not to a place where people were still wary of vampires, let alone a vampire baby. Leaving him was like tearing something vital out of me, but it was the right choice. Especially now that the world knew he existed.

We chose the one place I never thought I'd return to. A decision that startled both my mother and the King, and the leaders of their men, tasked with securing the region we'd chose to stay in. Ravić and I had chosen my old apartment.

His hand rested over mine as we drove through the Capital, the convoy cutting through the hollow streets, filled with ruins of ancient buildings. One SUV of human soldiers led the way, while another of vampires followed behind. 

Two sides that had once been at war, now united in uneasy silence, for us. But at least, they'd leave once the perimeter was secure, to grant us some privacy.
