Chapter 20 - Reprieve

Lungmen, the city of Yan that held a great degree of independence. It was one of the world's greatest cities of commerce. But at the same time, such a thing meant that it was prone to have a large degree of criminal activities happening within.

Working day and night, the LGD was tasked with keeping order within the city's borders, preventing any potential threat or criminal activity from happening. Although, to say they were doing a magnificent job wasn't the best descriptor.

Thankfully though, even on their bad days, they were still 'meeting standards,' but meeting standards was not something Ch'en was inclined to be satisfied with. It should always be at its best, despite whatever would be thrown at it.

Right now, the LGD was not at its best, considering the rampant crime rates because of those damned Blood Hounds increasing in numbers like rabbits reproducing. Also, no thanks to the black haired man that had been living rent free in her head, taking up most of the dragon lady's time when she went to search for him.

Right now, he was right in front of her.

"What's your name?" Ch'en spoke bluntly. The first thing she needed to know was his name, and hopefully he wouldn't lie about it. She considered herself to be good at detecting lies, but with how inexpressive the other... or rather, only man in the room was... It would be hard to tell.

The Head Superintendent sat at the forefront of her desk, with Hoshiguma and Swire sitting to her right and left respectively.

On the other side, the black haired man was sitting down with a dead expression with his own chair. Lin Yuhsia had promptly decided to remain standing by him.

A TV channel was in the corner of the high rise office room, its volume had been turned down to a degree where it could be heard, but wouldn't be a bother.

"...Fushiguro Megumi," strangely enough, the now named Megumi had replied without so much as a hitch. "Just call me Megumi..."

The foggy atmosphere that seemed to have been plagued from rigidness instantly broke when he spoke his name, a certain woman barely being able to contain her laughter.

"Pfft," Swire placed a hand over her mouth, barely containing a laugh, "ah, ah, sorry~," the woman turned away and continued giggling to herself. Her tail was swishing while leaning over attempting her damndest to keep this a serious event.

Hoshiguma raised an eyebrow, turning her gaze to the laughing tiger lady, and then back to Ch'en.

Ch'en was... Unamused to say the least, "...is that fake? Don't mess with me." It had to be, who the hell would name a male with a female name? She knew Higashinese, and the name pronunciation he used was a female one. She would check it on any records later.

"It's his actual name," Lin crossed her arms and clarified, "yes, he has a female's name." The mouse lady seemed to hold an expression that said, 'don't judge.'

Megumi... was starting to wonder if he could go to the afterlife and beat his father to a bloody pulp. Whoever the hell he was.

"Ah! Wait, wait, what if he's actually a female!" Swire had stopped laughing, eyes widening and tail shooting up straight. The glow in her eyes seemed to say that she had discovered a 'revelation.'

"Swire..." Ch'en wanted to call her tiger bitch, but restrained herself. This was a professional matter they were going through after all, and she'd be grateful to her of all people if she could take it with the same seriousness as-

"It's a completely valid question," Swire shrugged, "I mean, if he wanted to be an intimidating criminal in the Underworld, why would he pick a female name?"

Megumi didn't like where this was going.

"So... What are you implying?" Hoshiguma lowered her clipboard with a paper on it, for writing down notes of what Megumi said. "That we check?"

The Ten Shadows user was wondering if he should have summoned the Divine General after all, as his soul was starting to leave his body.

"Please..." Ch'en placed a hand over her face, growling out with stressed brows, "take this more seriously, would you?"

Lin seemed to have a small smile on her face, watching this scene unfold. The temptation within her was to make a comment on the situation, but she remembered a phrase her father would tell her... 'Don't interrupt the enemy when they're making a mistake.'

'Are... they really police officers...?' Megumi was starting to come back to that question, seeing what the hell was happening in front of him. To them, wasn't he a loose cannon that could shoot an orbital laser and form a thermobaric explosion? He had to agree with the blue haired woman, shouldn't they take this seriously?

"Enough!" Ch'en stood up and slammed the desk, glaring at Swire, the latter simply letting the last chuckles out before she wiped her tears. The blue haired Lung turned to Megumi again, this time bearing an even fiercer expression, "what is your age, what is your purpose for being in Lungmen, why did you run away when we first met?!"

Megumi slightly flinched at the rapid fire questions and loss of composure from the woman, but was able to regather his bearing, "...18 years-old, I-ah... woke up in Lungmen..." He honestly didn't know how to explain his appearance in this world, so he came up with the best excuse he could within a short timeframe.

"You just woke up in Lungmen?" Ch'en narrowed her eyes, "are you serious?" The woman didn't believe those words in the slightest. Her hands clenched in suspicion.

"...That's what I remember, I have no recollection of how I arrived here," Megumi met her eyes with his usual expression, trying his best to keep his stoic expression. 'A half-truth, hopefully it works out.'

"What do you take me for?" Ch'en narrowed her eyes, while the sounds of Hoshiguma scribbling something down on her clipboard.

"..." Megumi contemplated the question, for some reason, a thought or memory came to him while he was thinking over her words. Did it happen when he was unconscious and being carried around by Lin? He was sure it was the mouse lady who stated it, but he remembered it as; "Somebody who can't hold relationships?"

It was then he had subconsciously said the entire phrase out loud.

A terse silence followed, as if the world itself was taking time to register what he had just said.

Megumi realized he might have fucked up.

A hand shot forwards at his cheek.

***

Lin Yuhsia held an ice packet to Megumi's left cheek, the man surprisingly bearing the same expression as he usually had. She turned back to Ch'en, who had her arms crossed in silent anger.

Honestly, the mouse lady couldn't help but smile in amusement when Megumi had said that line, 'did he subconsciously hear it?' Lin made sure to know she was giving him a look of approval, turning her face to the side so that Ch'en couldn't see it.

Megumi in particular, was extremely confused at her smile, while having the item pressed against his cheek. His gaze turned elsewhere, towards Hoshiguma, the Oni; if he remembered correctly, was listlessly tapping her pen on the table.

Swire held a satisfied expression on her face, eyes closed while she had a slight smile. To her, hearing him insult Ch'en directly to the face was completely euphoric to her.

"...To get back on topic," Ch'en grumbled out, shooting one more glare at Megumi, "I would like to was why you did not comply with orders when we first met?" The dragon lady remembered that scene very well, the first time she had witnessed his explosively malignant aura, one that reeked purely of blood.

But at the current moment...? She was confused on why he just seemed like a corpse, rather than the sight Ch'en was presented with before. Chi Xiao, which had been sheathed by her side wasn't reacting at all.

The feeling had completely vanished in the air, like it hadn't existed during the times she had confronted him.

"I woke up in Lungmen with no recollection of how, as I said before," Megumi answered without a pause, he was going to push this half-truth to his grave; "I assumed I was being kidnapped by a fake police officer, considering you did not have any uniform that could imply an actual police officer." The actual reason was because he had no identification, but he came up with the best explanation he could.

After all, what kind of police officer wore... Whatever unprofessional outfit she had?

"He has a point," a voice came out to Ch'en's right, surprisingly being Hoshiguma, "I've heard of human trafficking cases where people fake being police officers, not only in Lungmen but other places like Columbia and Victoria."

"...I showed him my badge," Ch'en gave her counterargument.

"Your outfit," Megumi slowly said, "does not look like that of a police officer's..." He elaborated his point once more. It really didn't, seriously, why did it have a small opening exposing the midriff? Couldn't there have been at least some business card attached to it?

Ch'en was sure she would have melted a hole in Megumi with how many times she had turned to give a burning gaze today.

"I would also like to point out Fushiguro Megumi has also never visited Lungmen before," Lin removed the ice packet from his cheek, seeing how the bruise had... Completely healed already? Strange, "am I correct to state this?" From what she knew anyways, he doesn't have any identification in Lungmen or even Higashi when she did a background check before.

"...Yes, I've never visited Lungmen before," Megumi could answer that completely honestly this time. He felt his arms itch, the bloodied bandages wrapped at portions of his body had already been healed from Reverse Cursed Technique, but the dirty wrappings were uncomfortable.

"Well, I can agree with him somewhat with his previous point," Swire shrugged, "we don't exactly look like police officers without our badges, right? Aside from Hoshi, of course." The Feline had a badge attached to a suspender on her outfit, but it would be hard to see if one didn't focus their attention.

Ch'en was wondering why Swire and Hoshiguma were playing devil's advocate of all times. She turned to pinch the bridge of her nose, feeling her stress rise again by the second. "Where did you come from? Higashi?" Ch'en had decided to move on, she moved closer to the question she wanted to ask on her list.

"...Shinjuku, you won't find it anymore," Megumi knew he could say that without providing much details while also stating the truth... Because if they asked for more details-

"Shinjuku? What is that place? What do you mean we won't find it anymore?" Ch'en raised an eyebrow, never having heard of such an area before. 'He doesn't seem to be lying...'

"You won't find it anymore because it has been razed to the ground," Megumi declared, referring to the battle of Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna.

"...What?" Lin herself couldn't help but blink in confusion at his words, the unexpected answer coming out of him.

"Elaborate," Ch'en creased her brows while leaning further forward, keeping a deep concentration on Megumi's eyes for any lies.

Hoshiguma paused her writing, taking a glance at Swire, the two were sending each other the same message, 'what the hell?'

'Okay... Tell the truth but obscure it...' Megumi took a deep breath, "I'm sure you know my Arts abilities are strange-"

"They're not Arts," Ch'en cut him off, "it doesn't feel like Arts nor act like Arts, that much I am completely sure of." Especially with how it was able to destroy Originium particles.

'...No, no, adapt Megumi, adapt, you need to recover from that,' the puzzle pieces in his brain had been scattered from Ch'en's words, but he quickly regathered them after sighing. "...You're right, they're called 'Sorcery' back at home, but it's rare for it to develop in anybody, so it is nearly impossible to find somebody who has it on your own."

Ch'en closed her eyes, starting to connect the dots between his ungodly strange abilities and the weird feeling it gave off that was completely separate from Arts. "Continue," she gave the green light for him to continue his explanation.

"...Compared to professional Sorcerers, I'm a second-rate at best," he didn't know if he was downplaying himself, but screw it, "the two strongest Sorcerers back at home fought, causing enough destruction where it's unrecognizable. You won't find anything anymore." He somehwat hesitated when revealing that information. Just thinking about it was hard for him... Goddamned Ryomen Sukuna.

The dots seemed to have connected with everybody in the room...

'So... If his home had been razed to the ground...' Swire placed a hand under her chin, not sensing any lies from him.

'By 'two of the strongest' he said...' Lin crossed her arms in a contemplative stance, leaning slightly to the lead.

'And since he had randomly appeared in Lungmen...' Hoshiguma continued writing down on the clipboard.

'Then that means...' Ch'en leaned back on her chair rubbing her forehead to clear herself of any stress.

''''...Lungmen is his refuge?''''

Everybody stared at him, as if nearly everything about his presence here had been connected.

Somebody whose home had been completely razed to the ground, it was now clear on why an 18 year-old person like him, who wore expensive clothes was in Lungmen.

All that was a question was how exactly he ended up in Lungmen, and based on his words, Megumi didn't seem to know why either.

The man in question didn't like the looks he was receiving, a sweat drop forming on the back of his neck, his expression scrunched up to an uncomfortable one while he turned his head away.

It wasn't uncommon for entire villages to be destroyed by Catastrophes or powerful enough people. In fact, the entire Gaulish Empire had been wiped off of Terra's map. If Megumi is assumed to have lived in a remote village, or small Nomadic City, it made sense how it could be destroyed entirely...

Especially if he described himself as a second-rate sorcerer compared to everything else.

"...You're second-rate? What do you mean by that?" Ch'en raised an eyebrow, having a slightly less critical view of him. The question she asked was what she was most curious about when he first mentioned those 'Sorcerers' back at home. 'Was I losing to a nobody...?'

"Grade 2 Sorcerer, to be precise," Megumi knew he could explain the ranking system of his home without too much suspicion, "Grade 4, Grade 3, Semi-Grade 2, Grade 2, Semi-Grade 1, Grade 1, Special Grade 1, and Special Grade; I was a Grade 2 officially, and by the metrics, you can say I was merely a second-rate."

Of course, he was omitting a lot of information.

"Second-rate at best? Grade 2? You shoot an orbital laser from the sky and a gigantic purple explosion and you're a Grade 2?!" Swire yelled out from behind Ch'en her ears twitching frantically, "what's a Special Grade then?!"

Ch'en wanted to tell the woman to shut up in annoyance, but that was the exact question that was also running through her head.

"...Somebody who can end a nation?" Megumi shrugged, remembering those words he had heard.

A brief silence followed, all activities stopping before Megumi received looks of shock from everybody.

"...Oh," Lin let out a small sound beside him, "I see..." Never would she have expected to receive this sort of information. If what he said was correct, then that meant the two people he mentioned that destroyed where he lived...

"All Special Grades are most likely dead," Megumi continued on only if to reassure them. Knowing that Gojo Satoru had been diced in half, Okkotsu Yuta was in some sort of life-or-death situation in his sensei's body, Kenjaku had his head sliced off, and Tsukumo Yuki... was evaporated, he could confidently say that.

It seems that had calmed everybody's paranoia.

"After that event in Shinjuku, I presume?" Hoshiguma held a more serious expression while continuing to write on her clipboard, "could you describe your home?" It was honestly a slight relief that such powerful people didn't run amok anymore, especially if they were implied to cause the destruction of his home.

"An island at the far east, completely surrounded by the ocean," Megumi continued to tell half-truths, "it was very isolationist."

"...And how exactly did you escape from its destruction?" Ch'en asked. 'Special Grade...? Sorcerer? Will I be able to find any information on this in a country that is presumed wiped out?' Half of her thoughts were somewhere else, though. Island countries surrounded by oceans of water have had a track record in Terra for disappearing, for unknown reasons.

"I... fried my brain and lost consciousness, so I don't know," Megumi explained, "if you want to check, scan my brain." He declared his ultimatum, although he had already healed the majority of it with Reverse Cursed Technique, he could always force a burnout with a Binding Vow.

"...Huh?!" Swire blinked, interchanging looks between the black haired man and the blue haired woman, "you have... brain damage?"

Lin rubbed her eyelids wondered what else was afflicting him next, first, a wiped out home country, a damaged brain; and what was next? Corrupted by an ancient evil? Maybe she had been reading too many novels...

"Hoshiguma, call a doctor and a neurosurgeon," Ch'en crossed her arms and leaned back, "we'll see if his words are correct or not after this." It seemed quite hard to believe considering how... functional he was. Well, it was a pretty loose term with what the man had done so far.

"On it," Hoshiguma tapped her pen to close off the writing end, before standing up and moving to a corner of the room to make a call.

"Back to you, Fushiguro Megumi, and Lin Yuhsia..." Really, it felt weird for Ch'en to call him a female's name, "may I ask why you murdered Hanshi about three days ago?"

Lin decided to speak up this time, "I'm sure you already know the amount of dirt and criminal dealings happening in the background, Ch'en." She knew explaining that wouldn't guarantee them a victory, but was to lessen the impact of...

"It's still vigilantism in that case, less severe, but still a crime," Ch'en narrowed her eyes. "Especially since it came from a commission of the Mercenary's Tavern, right? A property of the Slums' Underworld."

Lin had no reply for that, only closing her eyes in what seemed to be a hesitant resignation.

"Ms. Ch'en, please hear me out," Megumi decided he was going to be the most sincere he could, even if it were a desperate attempt.

Ch'en gave him a strange look, but gave him the go ahead with a wave of her hand.

"...I do not wish Lungmen harm, I really don't, of course, I've been... confused with my situation," Megumi began, holding a restrained expression while speaking. "I possess no form of identification, and my first impression to you may have been less than desired; but I'm not attempting to look for trouble, only to live a stable life..." Megumi took in a breath, "of course, circumstances haven't been favorable to me, with the Blood Hounds after my head and no way to explain my situation without the risk of danger. Which is also includes my involvement with the Underworld..."

Ch'en closed her eyes, digesting his words. The Superintendent wasn't one to listen to mere words, but, "...The second time you summoned that Chimera Bird of yours, why did you do it?" She could see why she had run away the second time the LGD appeared, considering he was being hunted by that white haired monster of a Lupo. Their intervention must have caused great panic, that she could understand to a certain degree.

The dragon lady could overlook some of his actions, considering he was an 18 year-old refugee, somebody who should be attending university rather than resorting to crime.

"I-" before Megumi could reply, the TV channel that had been running on the corner of the room shifted to an image and video that he recognized. '...What the hell was that timing?'

"Megumi, why did you pause-?" Lin was content with listening to his words, but was confused on why he had stopped speaking. Following his sight, she saw what the TV in the corner of the room was playing "ah, I understand."

Swire wondered what all the fuss was about and followed along with them, before letting out a small hum of agreement.

"Excuse me?" Ch'en raised an eyebrow, but looked in shock at what was being shown on the TV. "What is...?"

It was a news reporter speaking over a video playing in the background of a Lungmen citizen recording while walking down the street. However, their attention was turned away from it after a crashing sound was heard, causing everybody in the scene to duck down.

When the video recorder got to a safer distance and turned to where the ruckus was, lo' and behold, Megumi was lying crashed into a car and motionless. Not long after, another crashing sound was heard, and the air around them seemed to distort from heat.

Out of the smoke caused from Megumi being launched out of a hotel room, a gigantic humanoid tiger with a black face, gaping maw with teeth sticking out, and muscular build of a human stepped out.

Flames emitted from its mouth and body, its eyes a frenzied yellow, as if looking at the prey it was going to claw at and rip apart at the seams.

The footage cut off due to the heat affecting technology, the last scenes being screams ringing out and a crowd running to flee the scene.

"..." Ch'en had to blink twice, wondering if the flaming tiger was connected to the Chimera Bird in any way... "Megumi."

"It was my summon yes," Megumi admitted before continuing on, "I can't access my summons without taming them first... I'm sure you've seen that woman with a halo and wings?"

"The Sankta?" Swire asked, remembering the unnerving and euphoric smile plastered on her face when she played the cello and blasting her Arts all across the battlefield. 'Wow, he even openly admitted that tiger is a part of his ability... A tiger summon, huh?' It was a little interesting to her.

"...Huh? Yeah, the Sankta," Megumi confusedly spoke out for the first portion, but quickly recovered. "She invited me to her hotel room..."

Swire tilted her head, a salacious thought coming to her when she heard those words. The man was really handsome after all, and she wouldn't doubt-

"...To have me listen to her musical instrument..."

'Oh, nevermind,' Swire shook her head.

"It had some sort of effect on me, and I called upon the untamed summon accidentally," Megumi began to wrap up his explanation, "I was planning to tame it on the outskirts of Lungmen to avoid damages, but with the events happening..."

The group barring Megumi already assumed it to be a form of Leithanian Arts that effected the mind. After all, they felt something influence them when they fought that enemy on the outskirts of Lungmen.

"Mhm..." Ch'en nodded, mulling over his words, 'aside from that Sankta, I'll make sure to put her on a wanted list... If that tiger summon of his required three Chimera Birds for an orbital strike against it... How powerful is it...? It could be a danger to Lungmen, but he said that...' She didn't know what to trust, her brain overloading with too many possibilities and information.

"If he didn't care for Lungmen, Ch'en," Lin spoke in favor of Megumi and cut Ch'en out of her brainstorm, "he would've done that 'move' within either the Slums or Lungmen itself, but he didn't. After all, with his capabilities, he could simply fly out of Lungmen after raiding it with his birds and leave."

Despite their shaky relationship, the words seemed to calm Ch'en to a certain degree.

"...Fine, fine... that's reasonable," Ch'en replied with a resigned look, "at the very least, I can affirm your intentions to a certain extent, especially with your circumstances." Strangely enough, her voice seemed to have sounded softer?

"But of course, that doesn't mean you're completely off the hook!" The dragon lady immediately shifted to her authoritative tone right after.

Swire rolled her eyes, remembering a certain Higashinese word that would be perfect describe her.

Lin had about the same idea, 'she hasn't changed at all, has she?'

"You four," a voice cut them off from their conversation, Hoshiguma having walked off from the side lines, "the doctor and neurosurgeon are awaiting for arrival at the current moment."

"That fast?" Swire's Feline ears perked up, wondering if Hoshiguma herself had good connections with hospitals to get an appointment so quickly. 'That's something only I can do.'

"I see, then shall we conclude this?" Lin commented while she turned to Ch'en, waiting on what her verdict was. 'this has gone on long enough, it must be deep into the night at the moment.'

Ch'en let out a groan, before shooting one last glare at Lin and Megumi, "your actions have caused property damage, even if they could be excused to some extent. However, the amount of public unrest and the act of vigilantism I cannot overlook despite your circumstances. Understand that..." The Superintendent paused her words before continuing, "you're going off with at least a 550,000 LMD fine-"

Megumi's face paled, doing the math, it was about 11 million Japanese Yen if it was based off of Chinese Yuan... And that was at least.

Should he just-

"I'll pay for it," Lin casually responded, seeing that amount of money as nothing but pocket change before her.

A wave of relief hit Megumi.

"...Of course," Ch'en shook her head in annoyance, "but there's one more condition, you'll be put under a watchlist and require at least one of us-," the blue haired Lung motioned to herself, Hoshiguma, and then Swire, "-monitoring you for all activities that you do in the event you are truly a threat, are we clear?"

"Eh, seriously?" Swire perked up and turned to Ch'en, "well, alright, I have no objections."

"No objections either," Hoshiguma nodded.

Megumi didn't know what to think of it, before glancing at Lin.

The mouse lady leaned downwards and whispered into his ears, providing the best piece of advice that she could, "they're being very lenient with you, take the offer, there's nothing better than this."

He had to wonder why she was helping him out so much, but had to stomach whatever questions were forming in his brain, "...yes, I heard it clearly."

At least he wasn't arrested or put on death row, at the very least...

But being monitored? Would his privacy be ruined? that might be a problem in the long run, one that he didn't look forward to.

***

It was awkward, really awkward. Before, they were at each other's throats, Ch'en having drawn Chi Xiao and slicing Megumi across the chest during their second ever bout in District 9.

That was excluding all the other events that involved the two.

Now? They were sitting in a private hospital room, along with Lin, Swire, and Hoshiguma who were with him. The waiting room they resided in was a white and large square room, holding chairs for the three to sit at.

It was far past midnight in Lungmen at this point, a lethargic feeling forming in their bodies.

'...Really? When did my life come to this?' Adrenaline was still going through his veins, a sense of unease plaguing him every second. Especially with the side glances that were shot his way.

Seemingly wanting to break the silence, Ch'en spoke up from the side, "the general plan composed so far for your monitoring is to have me observe you for three days, Swire the next two, and Hoshiguma for the last two, to complete the entire week of you being monitored." Ch'en showed it to him, "It is subject to change, but this is most likely how it will look, do you understand?"

Megumi was now looking at a piece of paper shoved in his place with the plans written down. With how close it was he had to wonder if she was going to slap him again like before?

"Include me," without any indicator, Lin spoke up abruptly. Everybody's gaze turned to her.

"...What do you mean?" Ch'en raised an eyebrow, holding a stand-offish look at her.

"Of course, he works under me," Lin lied, "Megumi accepted my offer to be a university assistant to make sure my lectures as a Special Guest Lecturer at Lungmen Union Academy goes well, am I right?"

Megumi didn't know where on earth she had gotten that idea from, but decided to play along, "I have... the tools you provide for the curriculum were quite outstanding..."

Ch'en's eyelids twitched, "how can he be a hire if he has no identification?"

"Oh, I was already planning to provide one for him, through legal means of course," Lin clarified, holding a confident posture.

'...Was it ever this easy? Could I have just...?' Megumi felt like shooting himself in the head right now. If only he had asked her to be a university assistant, something he wasn't unskilled at due to being Gojo's student assistant (unwillingly). But now? He was stuck being monitored by three high-ranking LGD officers along with an Underworld big-shot.

It would have been much more preferable to work as Lin's assistant in the university she spoke of. Maybe he should've accepted her deal before, was this what she was implying when the mouse lady first stated she wanted Megumi to work under her?

"By all means, it is still an occupation he has to attend to, especially with a university specially endorsed by Wei Yenwu..." Lin continued to blabber on.

"Tch..." Ch'en pinched the bridge of her nose, "you have to monitor him along with me, are we clear? If that conflicts with your schedule, it's completely on you."

Megumi watched the two continue to glare at each other, sparkings of electricity seemingly clashing between them. He turned to Swire and Hoshiguma, the two looking as if... It was a natural occurrence to happen?

"Ah, university, huh? That brings back memories," Lin off-handedly remarked, before breaking off the gaze and crossing her arms.

Ch'en looked slightly shocked, but clenched her teeth and turned away from her, as if not wanting to delve into whatever topic Lin seemed to be implying.

'...No, what have I gotten myself into...?' Megumi could not look at the future with high hopes.

***

"What are these results...?" Ch'en's hands shook when she stared at the two papers, interchanging between them.

"Huh? What's the fuss all about, come on, let me take a look!" Swire was attempting to glance over Ch'en's shoulder, but the other woman kept on moving them in a way to not let her.

For Hoshiguma though, the dragon lady let her have a full view of it along with her, much to Swire's chagrin.

"...We have to keep these hidden," Hoshiguma's eyes narrowed, "it can't get out anywhere."

"What are you-?" Swire paused when Ch'en shoved the papers towards the tiger lady's chest, "seriously? What's all the fuss- oh... Oh!" When she shuffled around and had a clearer view of it, her eyes completely widened. "What the fuck...?"

Lin was standing by Megumi, having seen the results when briefly passing by Ch'en, "...Do you know what the results imply?"

"...What do you mean? Imply what?" Megumi was wondering what the woman was talking about, 'why are they all acting so surprised?'

"Megumi, you have zero Originium in your blood," Lin decided to spell it out for the man with her next sentence, "that is an impossibility."

"...Could you tell me what Originium is...?" Megumi didn't want to ask that question, seeing how the woman threw out the term like it was completely natural.

"You don't know what Originium is?!" Swire waved her hands in the air with an exasperated expression, having overhead the two. "Have you been living under a rock? What have they been using at Shinjuku then?!"

"Missy, calm down," Hoshiguma let out a sigh while placing a hand on her shoulder, "lower your voice, we can't expect the walls to completely muffle our voices."

"Ugh..." Swire felt the papers on her hands being snatched back by Ch'en, before she rested a back hand on her forehead, "holy shit, who did we run into?" The tiger lady muttered to herself, wondering how a singular man could cause such headache inducing events. 'Especially with the brain scans, what the fuck? He should be dead!'

Ch'en continued to stare tensely at the papers, her hands starting to shake at the results of both his brain and Blood Originium-Crystal Density. They had already 'told' the doctors who received these results to keep silent. Thankfully, they complied without so much as a hitch, most likely fearing for their lives.

Lin closed her eyes to regather all she knew of the man, zero Originium in his blood, summoning three skyscraper sized birds, producing a gigantic explosion that would make advanced military-grade bombs pale in comparison, and far more mysteries surrounding him.

Mysteries like his shadow abilities, spatial inventory that was in his shadows, and his home country...

That is also excluding how he was even functioning like a normal being with how screwed up his brain was.

"Megumi," Ch'en turned up from her papers, a look in her eyes that could only be described as spine-chilling. "We're implementing the monitoring plans starting tomorrow, there will be no objections."

The room's temperature dropped severely at her words.

"..." Megumi now realized, he should've visited the library to study this world much sooner.
