Kyra's POV
The Raven Shadow Pack house felt unusually quiet as I packed my things, waiting for my father's beta to drive me to my new high school. I didn't want to be late on my first day at the new school.
Kieran leaned against the wall nearby, his backpack slung carelessly over one shoulder. It was strange seeing him still at home—he usually left early.
To avoid conversation, I buried my nose in a book, pretending to read. I could feel his intense stare boring into me, but refused to meet his eyes.
Where was that car? I wondered impatiently.
Kieran had changed so much since his mother's death. Gone was the gentle older brother I once knew, replaced by someone cold and distant. When he started high school, he transformed into the school's notorious bad boy.
Being at the same school with him meant I was often targeted by jealous girls. Worse, Kieran would intimidate any boy who tried to talk to me. Today I was finally escaping to a new school, away from his shadow.
