His brush in his hand Derek worked on his hair until it was styled exactly the way he wanted it.
Once it was he put the brush down on his desk and then moved over to the mirror he had set up against the wall, nodding as he saw his appearance was also exactly how he wanted it.
Derek grateful that whatever force saw to his reincarnation also put him in a body with the exact same looks he had in his pevous life.
Which includes mocha skin, and silky black hair. Along with caramel-colored eyes.
"Okay, all set." Derek said.
He then moved to grab his bag and left his room, arriving downstairs in no time.
When he did everyone else was waiting for him.
"Finally." Kurt spoke. "You were taking so long I thought we were waiting on one of the girls." He joked.
Ignoring the looks Rogue, Kitty, and Jean were giving him.
"Hey, you can't rush perfection Kurt." Derek replied.
"Well isn't someone confident." Rogue mused.
"You guys can finish this conversation later. After all we wouldn't want Derek to be late on his first day of school." Scott said.
"Don't you mean prison Scott?" Derek asked.
Getting a round of laughter from the other X-Men.
Even Scott himself.
Where once they were done they headed off to school.
***
Arriving at Bayville high with the others Derek observed his surroundings, finding it filled with sweat, hormones, and awkwardness in droves.
'Yep, just like I remember it.' He thought.
While he and the others made their way inside.
"Can anyone point me in the direction of the administration office?" Derek asked.
"Actually I can take you." Kitty offered.
"Sure. Lead the way then." Derek spoke.
Once he did he and Kitty split off from the others and they arrived at the administration office in no time.
Once they did Derek went inside and straight up to the reception desk. The receptionist looking up at him when he did. "Hello ma'am, my name is Derek Cowan and I'm a new student here starting today."
"Ah, yes, Mr. Cowan. Please have a seat. We'll get you when ready." The receptionist spoke.
Upon hearing this Derek took a seat.
Not having to wait more than fifteen minutes before none other than the principal of the school came to gree him.
One Robert Kelly.
A man who Derek might or might not unalive, as a certain merc with a mouth sold say, in the future.
Depending on what path the man took.
Given how many versions of his new principal hated Mutants in his previous life.
Though maybe just like in X-Men TAS the Robert Kelly in Derek's current reality will be different.
But again if not...
"Ah, you must be Mr. Cowan." Kelly said, offering his hand to Derek.
"That I am." Derek replied, standing up and shaking the man's hand quickly before releasing it. "And you are principal Kelly?"
"Yes sir." Kelly replied. "And let me be the first to welcome you to the Bayville family."
"Thank you sir, I appreciate it." Derek replied.
"My, a teenager with manners, what a rare find you are Mr. Cowan." Kelly joked.
"I try." Derek replied.
Eliciting a laugh from Kelly. "Well enough small talk. Please step into my office so we can discuss how you'll truly be joining us."
"Of course." Derek replied.
So with that he and Kelly entered Kelly's office.
Once they did they went over Derek's class schedule and even a few of his interests.
Until ten minutes later when their conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in." Kelly spoke.
When he did the door opened and Kitty stepped inside.
"Oh, hey Kitty. What are you doing here?"
"Well last week doctor Xavier contacted me about enrolling you in our school, and I learned you were another one of his wards, I asked some of the others you lived with if one of them would be opening to being your chaperone during your first few days here and miss Pryde volunteered."
"Yeah. She seems to like doing that a lot." Derek said.
Wondering if Kitty's actions towards him since they met was just her being aggressively friendly or something a bit more.
Though if it is the latter Derek knows he's going to have to deal with it very carefully. Given both their association with the X-Men.
Yeah, Derek certainly didn't want to be the reason the team hit a rough patch.
Especially after he just joined it.
"So you're saying you don't enjoy my company?" Kitty asked.
"Never said that." Derek flatly replied.
"Okay, okay, that's enough you two. Classes are waiting, so you need to get going." Kelly spoke.
With that Derek and Kitty left the office. They then returned to Kitty's first class of the day, which was also Derek's, given they had the same class schedule.
So with that from class to class they moved together.
Derek making small talk with a few of his classmates as he did.
Until eventually lunched rolled around.
When it did Derek found himself at a table with not only Kitty but also all of the other X-Men, except for Jean and Bobby. Given they had a different lunch period than the others.
"So, how's school treating you so far?" Scott asked.
"Please remember, this is a prison Scott." Derek corrected. "And good so far."
"East for you to say, since apparently you're some sort of hidden genius." Kitty said.
Leading the others to look at him.
"Oh, really?" Kurt asked.
"Like totally." Kitty said. "In class so far he's barely had any trouble following along. Which is super unfair."
"So you're all upset because I'm not dumber?" Derek asked. A deadpan expression on his face. "Wow, thanks a lot guys. Really feeling the love." He sarcastically spoke.
"Hey, don't lump me in with Kurt and Kitty." Rogue protested.
"Same with me." Scott added. "Though I can't say I'm a bit surprised Derek. Given your background." He said. Scott then leaned in a bit closer. "You aren't using your powers are you?"
"Nope. My brains are currently all me." Derek replied.
But Scott's words did give Derek an idea.
Since he could manipulate the electric signals and impulses throughout his entire body he could do so for his brain and possibly alter it. Allowing him to become smarter or even give himself a photographic memory.
But Derek would only attempt such a feet once he had finer control of his powers.
Since he didn't want to get his brain.
"Oh, and what's that supposed to mean?" Rogue asked.
"I'll leave that up to your imaginations for now." Derek cryptically spoke.
Before returning to eating his food, ignoring the curious looks the others were giving him.
Even as lunch came to an end.
Then Derek only had to contend with Kitty glaring at him.
But that didn't bother him at all, given her glare was actually quite cute.
So with that Derek finished his first day of highschool with ease.
As he finally bell rung he left out the front door with Kitty.
"So, since you didn't want to go out the other day, what's say I show you some more of Bayville today?" Kitty asked.
"Sure." Derek agreed. For he was curious to see more of the town.
"Great." Kitty replied, grabbing Derek's arm. "Well then, let's go." She said.
"Hey, hey Kitty, who's your new friend?"
Only for Kitty to drop in her tracks and frown when once Lance Alvers stepped in front of her and Derek.

"Out of the way Lance." Kity spoke.
"Not a friend of yours I take it?" Derek asked.
Even though he already knew who Lance was.
"Understatement." Kitty replied.
"Ah, come on, don't be like that." Lance said.
Moving to block Kitty's path. "I just want you to introduce me to your new friend."
"I said no." Kitty replied.
"No, it's okay Kitty." Derek said. Leading both Kitty and Lance to look at him.
After they did he offered his hand to Lance. "Derek Cowan. Just started hearing today. Nice to meet you."
"Right." Lance said, taking Derek's hand.
"Ow!" Only to immediately break the hand shake and fall flat on his back a second later.
All thanks to Derek who zapped him with some electricity.
"Pfft!" Kitty began laughing.
While Lance gained an irritated expression on his face.
"Well then now that I've introduce myself we'll be on our way." Derek spoke.
He then pulled Kitty and sidestepped Lance.
Who began grinding his teeth s few seconds later.
"You're dead, Cowan." Lance muttered.
Before picking himself up and waking off.
Derek noticing it out of the corner of his eye, leading to smile to appear on his face.
'Maybe high school won't be so bad after all.' Derek thought.
Yep, not so bad at all.
