Chapter 14: Another Walker

The morning sun spilled golden light through the open windows, brushing against the wooden floor like a gentle tide. Birds chirped like they had secrets to tell, and inside the Walker household… chaos bloomed in full swing.

"Allen!! Stop putting cherries on the chicken!!"

Selene, wide-eyed and clutching her wooden spoon like a sword, stomped across the kitchen, trying to reclaim her lovingly roasted breakfast from the clutches of a certain mischievous little boy. Allen grinned, standing on a chair, arms stretched like a villainous chef.

"But it's art, Selly! You just don't get it!"

Serena covered her mouth to hide the laugh as she prepared tea, watching her son and daughter spiral into another harmless war. Hades sat at the table with his arms crossed, trying not to smirk. He failed.

"You're raising a kitchen terrorist," he muttered to Serena.

"You're the one who taught him how to use knives," she fired back sweetly.

Selene lunged. Allen squealed. The chase began.

An hour later, after the kitchen was miraculously cleaned and Allen had been forgiven thanks to his "puppy eyes no jutsu," he followed Hades into the back training fields. The air was crisp. The trees swayed like they were watching.

"You're early today," Hades said, glancing at his son. "Trying to skip chores again?"

"Nooo," Allen said, looking suspiciously innocent. "Just wanna learn how to suplex a mountain like you."

Hades rolled his eyes, but the faint smirk gave him away.

"Alright, little monster. Let's see what you've got."

Allen steadied his stance. The world around him quieted for a heartbeat. He closed his eyes, feeling it—his own breath, the pulse of the earth, and something deeper… coiled and warm.

Then—

BOOM!

His foot shattered the ground beneath him with one swift movement. Dust flew. The entire training platform cracked. Wind spiraled outward.

Hades' brows twitched. His inner monologue screamed: He's only three and he's already doing this? At this age, I was barely making rocks wiggle!

But out loud, he just grunted, "...Not bad."

Allen turned, wide-eyed. "Papa! Am I strong? Like you and Mom?"

Hades looked at him quietly for a beat. His voice softened.

"You're… something else, Allen."

"But like… if there were other monsters out there. Big guys. Real scary ones. Would I lose?"

Hades crouched to his son's level and locked eyes.

"There will always be monsters. But you? You'll never have to bow to them. They'll fear you, long before you even know their names."

Allen nodded slowly, a small fire lighting in his chest.

Later that afternoon, Allen sat by the cliffside, watching the wind bend the tall grass. Something… pulled at him. A feeling. A whisper. Not of danger—but need. Like something calling for help.

Without telling anyone, he followed it.

Through the trees. Past the stone markers. Deeper. Deeper still.

Until he found it.

A tiny, blood-soaked wolf pup, barely breathing, whimpering beneath a broken root. Its fur was snow-white with patches of violet-gray, matted in dirt and dried blood. One eye blinked open—shimmering gold. The other—dull silver. The pup met his gaze and let out a weak, wounded growl.

Allen knelt beside him, heart pounding.

"I heard you," he whispered, reaching out gently. "You're not alone anymore."

The pup didn't flinch. It just let itself be held, pressing its tiny, shaking body to Allen's chest like it belonged there.

Evening.

Serena was pacing in the yard. "Where is he?!"

Hades strolled up behind her, casually dangling Allen by the collar with one hand—and in the other, a half-asleep wolf pup.

"Don't freak out. He brought home… this."

Allen wiggled out of his grip, clutching the pup proudly. "He's my friend!"

Selene squealed. "He's soooo fluffy!!"

The pup licked her face, tail giving its first wag.

Hades crossed his arms, staring at it. "He's wild. You can't just keep—"

Bark.

Hades blinked. His eyebrow twitched.

Allen grinned. "He just called you grumpy."

"...He what?"

Serena knelt down and took the pup from Allen's arms, motherly instinct kicking in as she examined the wounds. "He's hurt. But these eyes… He's not just a wolf."

Allen beamed. "I gave him a name."

"Oh?" Serena asked, raising a brow.

"Boro!" Allen declared proudly.

Hades frowned. "What kinda name is that?"

Allen puffed his cheeks. "It's his name."

The pup gave a soft yip of agreement and nestled deeper into Serena's arms.

Selene giggled. "Boro D. Walker!"

Allen lit up. "Yeah!! He's family now."

The pup let out a soft little howl, eyes glowing gold and silver beneath the rising moon.
