Chapter 27 - The Duel for the Great Heavenly Ghost Pill

The Mount Hua Sect courtyard shimmered under the midday sun, petals swirling in the gentle wind. The festival of martial arts was in full swing, the air thick with anticipation and the scent of incense. Competitors from neighboring sects lined the stage, hoping to impress, to make a scratch on the first disciple, Yu Xin—the Jade Heart—and claim the legendary Great Heavenly Ghost Pill.

Dominic perched on a cliff above the stage, observing quietly through his All-Seeing Eye. The display of martial skill below was… predictable. The participants swung, leapt, and channeled Qi, but their movements lacked elegance, precision, and the deadly harmony of true mastery. Dominic's lips curved in a subtle smirk.

"Interesting," he murmured. "All of you think you understand martial arts… but you're playing, not fighting."

His attention snapped to the stage as the elder of Mount Hua stepped forward, voice booming:

"Anyone who can make a scratch on Yu Xin, the Jade Heart, without being a direct disciple, will immediately be recognized by Mount Hua Sect and awarded the Great Heavenly Ghost Pill!"

The crowd erupted in cheers and whispers.

Dominic's hand brushed the hilt of his sword. "System…" he muttered softly.

"Yes, Dominic?"

"Is the Great Heavenly Ghost Pill really as rare as they say?"

"Yes. Not just rare. It grants fifty years of cultivation to a normal martial artist. It can elevate an average disciple to first-rate power overnight," the system replied calmly.

Dominic's eyes glinted. "Perfect. Let's see what we're really dealing with."

He descended from his vantage point, moving silently as shadows embraced him. Observing the competitors below, he noted their stances, their energy flows, their overconfidence. A subtle exhalation left his lips. "None of these are even close."

Then he stepped forward, voice loud enough to carry.

"I'll take the challenge."

A hush fell over the courtyard. Heads turned. Whispers erupted.

"Who is that?"

"I've never seen him before…"

Dominic strolled forward, robes billowing. His presence commanded attention, not with force, but with sheer aura.

A notification appeared in his mind:

NOTICE!! DEFEAT THE MOUNT HUA PATRIARCH FIRST DISCIPLEREWARD: Great Heavenly Ghost Pill, Recognition, Extra 50 Years of Qi

Dominic smirked. "Extra fifty years of Qi… just like that?" He unsheathed his sword lightly, the black-and-blue blade gleaming.

Yu Xin stepped forward, gaze sharp, energy coiling like a drawn bow. "Who are you? You dare step onto the stage without invitation?"

"I am Dominic Mendez," he replied with calm confidence, bowing lightly. "Shall we begin?"

Yu Xin's brow furrowed, but he maintained his composure. "You'll regret stepping up. I will end this before your second move."

Dominic tilted his head, playful but deadly. "Oh? Then allow me to give you the first two moves."

The crowd murmured in shock. "Is he… serious?"

Yu Xin lunged immediately, Jade Heart Pearls Martial Art coiling in deadly arcs. Qi collided with Qi, generating shockwaves that lifted dust, scattered petals, and forced spectators to step back.

Dominic felt the energy wash over him—not threatening, not oppressive, but precise, controlled, like water against rock. He danced around the strikes, each movement deliberate, observing, calculating.

"Are you psychotic?" he muttered under his breath. "Fighting yourself?"

The disciples on the side gasped. Yu Xin's strikes were flawless—textbook perfection—but Dominic's counters weren't brute force. He flowed with the attacks, letting the disciple expend his energy while keeping a layer of distance, testing, analyzing.

The stage shuddered as Yu Xin unleashed the next wave: a torrent of Qi forming jade-colored ghostly phantoms that clashed against Dominic's aura. The wind twisted violently, turning petals into whirling blades. Spectators shielded their faces as small stones flew into the air.

Dominic's grin widened. "Impressive… but all wrong."

He focused, transferring his mana into a temporary surge of Ki, feeling the energy translate through his veins. With a flick of his wrist, he launched a series of movements resembling the lost original Jade Heart Pearls Martial Art—a version so perfect and flowing it caused the air itself to tremble.

The elder of Mount Hua froze, eyes widening in recognition.

"Impossible… that technique was lost over three centuries ago," one whispered.

Yu Xin staggered back, confusion and shock contorting his face. His Jade Heart Pearls Martial Art was rendered incomplete—Dominic's version refined, pure, and devastating.

"Who… who are you?" Yu Xin shouted, fury now mixed with fear.

Dominic's eyes gleamed. "I already gave you your first two moves. Now it's my turn."

With a subtle spin, he combined the strikes into a whirlwind of petals, Qi, and shadow, forming a tornado-like vortex that enveloped Yu Xin. The ground cracked from the force, the stage trembled, and the spectators gasped, stepping back to avoid being caught in the overflow of energy.

Yu Xin's jade aura collided with Dominic's movements, but it was like hitting a ghost—the techniques phase-shifted around him, elegant and untouchable. The disciple realized, too late, that the boy before him was not merely strong—he was mastery incarnate.

Elders rushed to the stage, sensing the surge. The first few disciples drew their blades, aiming at Dominic's neck, but his presence alone forced them to hesitate. Every move Dominic made was calculated, flowing, yet terrifyingly precise.

He stopped just before Yu Xin, standing with calm grace. "I'll make this simple. I am not your enemy… yet you insisted on fighting."

Yu Xin panted, hands trembling on his sword. "This… this cannot be… How could you—"

Dominic smiled faintly, lowering his blade. "Your technique is beautiful, but flawed. It's lost… and now restored."

The elders stepped forward, recognition dawning. Whispers erupted:

"That's… the lost Jade Heart Pearls Martial Art…"

"Young master… how?"

Dominic's presence pulsed, Qi surging outward. The crowd felt it, and a wave of respect and awe washed over everyone.

NOTICE!! DEFEAT THE MOUNT HUA PATRIARCH FIRST DISCIPLE – COMPLETEDREWARD: Great Heavenly Ghost Pill, Recognition, Extra 50 Years of Qi

Dominic exhaled lightly, feeling the elixir's Qi infuse him. The additional fifty years of cultivation strengthened his body and mind instantly.

"You see?" he murmured to himself. "It's never about brute strength. Precision, timing… flow. That's the difference."

The elders bowed deeply, acknowledging him. Yu Xin, still trembling, managed a weak nod of respect.

Dominic sheathed his sword and glanced at the cheering crowd. "Alright… enough for today. Just give me my reward—I'm not here to linger."

The system chimed softly:

NOTICE!! GREAT HEAVENLY GHOST PILL ADDED TO INVENTORY.

Dominic vanished into the shadows once more, leaving behind a court that would never forget the young outcast who walked in as an unknown and left as a legend.
