Silence fell over the building, as if moments ago there hadn't been a fight for life and death within its walls. Scarlet and Haji remained lying on the floor, not moving an inch, careful to avoid getting pricked by the shards scattered around them.
Haji closed his eyes and let his body rest. "I think I broke a rib… or two. Maybe my legs, too."
"Stop whining," she replied coldly, eyes fixed on the ceiling.
"I think I got shot, too," he added, touching his side. "Or maybe not."
This time, she didn't answer, which didn't surprise him.
Haji opened his eyes again, the high ceiling being the first thing that greeted him. In the distance, the sound of gunfire echoed, accompanied by faint shouts.
"They're gonna get us, won't they?" he asked, knowing Jarvis's death wouldn't stop the fighting. He cocked his head, glancing at her side profile. "How did you get here so fast?"
Scarlet didn't look at him as she replied, "Skills."
"Hah."
