Chapter 40 - Sin and Forgiveness

Revy took a deep breath. Finally, he understood—understood the answer to the question that had haunted him for so long.

Why did a girl who looked exactly like Theresa always appear in this place he could sometimes enter, and sometimes couldn't?

Because this place—was the corner of his own mind, the one he refused to confront.

The girl, a memory construct, had hidden herself here—within the very source of his pain and trauma. She had gently soothed the emotional wounds while silently waiting for the day Revy would discover this place himself.

That day would be the moment when he truly confronted the past he could never bear to face.

"By now… I don't even know if I should be surprised anymore—"

After what felt like an eternity of silence, Revy finally spoke.

"Or maybe… I should say I'm happy?"

"To me… this is a joy."

Talli let out a soft sigh, but there was a faint smile on her lips.

"After all, I was never supposed to be like this.Originally, 'I' was meant to be nothing more than a feeling-less memory fragment—never meant to inherit Theresa's personality at all."

"Wait—"

A thought struck Revy, and his eyes flew wide open.

"The 'Demon King'… was that also because of this?"

Talli's eyes showed a flicker of sorrow. She shook her head.

"Revy, have you ever heard of 'Gore Magala'?"

Rather than answering directly, she threw out a seemingly unrelated question.

"Sounds like… a mythical creature? A legend?"

"Actually, it's real. Gore Magala, like Wendigos, is an ancient bloodline among the Sarkaz—possibly even older than the Wendigo."

Revy was stunned.

"Legend has it that the first emperor of Kazdel possessed the power of the Gore Magala.""When awakened, the bearer of this bloodline could take on an entire army by themselves."

"But the price was madness.""Those who awakened the blood would lose themselves to insanity—becoming berserkers who slaughtered everyone in their sight until death."

"And because of that, the Gore Magala bloodline was wiped out centuries ago.It remained only as a royal secret… or the subject of fantastical folk tales."

"I always thought it was just a legend…"Revy muttered.

"No, Revy. That's not true."

Talli's tone became serious.

"The Gore Magala bloodline doesn't pass through breeding.""Throughout history, its appearance was random—but always marked by one trait: a unique trace element in the blood that turns cells into volatile molecular clusters."

"This substance reshapes internal biology—both their own and others'. It's what gives the Gore Magala their strength… and their madness."

"They are the 'Enders of Civilizations'—the embodiment of calamity and divine punishment."

She paused.

"And Revy… that element is in your blood, in large quantities."

Her voice softened.

"Remember Chernobog? That was the only time in four years that I had no idea what to do. But you survived it… and you came back sane."

"You… are the last Gore Magala.""And the only one to awaken and remain conscious."

Revy froze.

Theresa's earlier words echoed in his mind:

"The Gore Magala… Enders of Civilization… calamity incarnate…"

Yes. He remembered now.

The cursed bloodline. The madness and destruction. The field of Originium crystals in Chernobog… and the Impaled Infected soldiers who still lived upon them. And all those gazes—fixated on him.He had never lost consciousness.Even in that moment of slaughter, that moment of absolute insanity—he was completely awake.

"No! No!! It's not like that! You're lying!! You're lying to me!!"

Revy screamed, shrieked—howling in anguish.

Why?! Why me?! Why does it have to be me?!

Those faces. The memories.Pain. Grief. Rage. Blame.

Monster!I'm not a monster! I'm not!!

Stay away, Infected!Fine… I'll go. I'll go!!

He's here again—why does a catastrophe always follow him?!I just wanted to warn you… that's all…

If you'd arrived earlier, he wouldn't have died! Give me back my son! Murderer!!Forgive me… please don't keep blaming me…

"I'm not a killer! Not a monster!! Damn it—get out of my head! Stop looking at me like that! You don't understand!!"

He thrashed and screamed, pulling at his own hair, slamming his head against the ground.

Talli rushed forward and held him tightly, trying to keep him from hurting himself further.

She didn't know exactly why he broke down—but no one understood Revy better than she did.

She had coexisted within him, as a second soul. She had felt every joy and sorrow of these past four years.

She knew, better than anyone, that he had always worn a mask—living day to day with quiet despair, guilt, confusion. The pain had been buried deep, sealed away—until today.

And today, her words had ripped that last mask off.

Only to find there was no ledge behind the cliff—only another bottomless abyss.

Revy coughed violently, gasping for air.He tried to stand—then collapsed again.

Talli held him close, her hand gently stroking his trembling back until his breathing calmed.

"I… I'm not… not a monster…"

He whispered like a child, shaking, his blank eyes pleading with her—for validation, or maybe just comfort.

Talli—Theresa—knew:Revy still hadn't forgiven himself for watching her die… unable to do anything.

That guilt had festered into chains.

Chains that weren't his to bear.

And then, a warmth stirred in Talli's heart.

She hugged him tighter.

"You're not a monster, Revy. You're Regulus Harvey.""You're a legendary Catastrophe Messenger.""A hero of Kazdel. You're… my hero."

"The world may not have been kind to you. And maybe you've lost faith in it too.""But you're still alive—carrying my memories, my past."

"Because of my selfishness, you've borne unjust blame… and crimes that never belonged to you."

She whispered, holding him softly:

"Please… forgive me—""And more importantly… forgive yourself."

"Even if you couldn't save Theresa back then, you gave me a future—one where I can still exist, here… as the 'Theresa' who belongs to you alone. Isn't that enough?"

Her voice faded to a whisper, warm breath brushing his ear.

And with that…

The last taut string in Revy's heart snapped.

The volcanic pressure erupted—And with one final, primal surge, the Sarkaz man lunged forward…into her embrace.
