Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Rin Tohsaka's Late-Night Great Adventure (Part 1)

Kill Lin Jiuan. Then what should I do?

Mother and sister had already accepted this murderer of her father as a real family member. If they knew she had killed him, how could she ever face them again?

After lying there for a while and seeing that Rin was crying even harder but had lost the will to act, Lin Jiuan sat up. Rin, who was sitting on him, tumbled to the floor and cried even louder.

Looking at the wailing Rin on the floor, his expression remained indifferent. Guilt? He felt not a shred of it. Leaving aside the fact that he hadn't been the one to kill Tokiomi, even if he were indirectly responsible... without him, what would Rin's life have been like?

Her father would be dead. Her mother would become a vegetable and die soon after. Her sister would be tortured at the Matou household, even implanted with crest worms, turning her into a nymphomaniac constantly craving men's bodily fluids. And she would be all alone, a seven-year-old child living in the large Tohsaka mansion. The family's vast fortune would be squandered by Kirei Kotomine, leaving her, the heir to the rulers of Fuyuki, so poor by the time of the Fifth Holy Grail War that she'd have to pinch pennies for every jewel she used.

Compared to that future, her current life, with her mother and sister by her side, was countless times happier. Besides, even if he had wronged her, so what? Had this world treated him fairly? All the sins and karma of human history were placed on him, a single 'Beast', and then everyone who saw him said his very existence was a mistake and that he had to be killed.

"Don't be so indecisive in the future. When it comes to a critical moment, don't hesitate," he said. "Think through all your choices beforehand and be prepared to bear the consequences. There is no mercy in the world of magi, only life and death. Since you've chosen to bear all this, then put away your weakness. In this cruel world, besides your family, no one will spare your life just because you're a child."

With that, Lin Jiuan left the room, leaving the now even more hysterical Rin behind.

"Jiuan?" Just as he stepped out, he ran into Aoi in the hallway. "Rin is...?"

"She's fine."

"Oh." Aoi guessed what had happened and, after a moment of silence, didn't press the matter. Instead, she said, "Jiuan."

Looking at her longing gaze, he sighed silently. Comfort the daughter, then comfort the mother. I'm really shouldering too much!

Late at night.

Rin, lying quietly in bed, suddenly opened her eyes. She got out of bed quietly and got dressed. She took out the rope she had made earlier from clothes and bedsheets. Opening the window, she tied one end to the bed and threw the other end down.

Looking at the distance of several meters from the second-floor window to the ground, she swallowed nervously. But thinking of the phone call from earlier, she gritted her teeth, grabbed the rope, and slid down. Fortunately, aside from some pain in her palms, there were no problems.

Then, Rin tiptoed out of the house. Reaching the main road, she saw a taxi pass by and immediately waved it down.

"Little girl, where are you going so late?"

Rin got in the car. Thinking of the secret phone call she had made to her father's disciple, Kirei Kotomine, she said, "The Church!"

Tohsaka Residence, Master Bedroom.

Sensing Lin Jiuan suddenly stop, Aoi's hazy, beautiful eyes fluttered open. "J-Jiuan, what's wrong?"

"Your daughter went out." Lin Jiuan said, feeling the position of the substance he had left on Rin, while resuming his work. During the day, Rin had thought she was being very secretive when she called Kirei. In fact, Lin Jiuan, who was in the bathroom with Aoi at the time, had heard their entire conversation clearly. The content was nothing special. Rin was questioning him about her father, and Kirei told her that Tokiomi's body was at the Holy Church and would be buried tomorrow—a clear bait to lure the grieving Rin to see her father. Coupled with the fact that Lin Jiuan had recently felt that thing underground was getting restless, he had left a part of himself on Rin at dinner to monitor her.

"Ooh... wait... will Rin be alright?"

"Don't worry," he said nonchalantly. "It'll be a while before her taxi reaches the church. What's the matter? Weren't you the one clinging to me all day, looking like you wouldn't rest until you'd drained me dry?"

"Ooh, I was wrong..." Aoi moaned, quickly forgetting about her daughter under his renewed assault. She had wanted to drain him dry so those other bad women would have nothing left to eat. But who knew he would be so vigorous? From the morning after breakfast until now, she had only rested for a few hours while she went downstairs to cook for her daughters. She didn't know how much longer he could last, but she knew that if this continued, her brain would probably be completely broken.

"Wrong? Too late!"

Rin stood before the Holy Church. Looking up at the building, which was silent and devoid of any human presence in the dark night, she couldn't help but tremble. 'It's okay, Rin, it's okay. You are the future head of the Tohsaka family!'

Giving herself a pep talk, she ran to the church door and knocked. "Is anyone there? Kirei Kotomine?"

Creaak.

The door opened shortly after she knocked. Seeing Kirei standing inside, Rin breathed a sigh of relief. "I want to see my father's body."

Kirei didn't speak. He looked her up and down, confirming there were no magical surveillance marks on her. "Follow me."

Rin followed him into the church. After a few minutes, they arrived at a door. "This isn't the morgue, is it?" she asked warily. Even though she had never been here before, she could tell that this room was likely the living quarters of some important figure in the church, not a place to store corpses.

Kirei didn't answer. He knocked on the door. "Teacher, Rin is here."

"Come in."

Hearing the familiar voice from inside the room, Rin, who had been on guard and ready to flee at the first sign of trouble, froze. That's...

"Father?" she said, her voice trembling. The moment Kirei opened the door, she rushed into the room before he could even step inside. She saw her father, as elegant as she remembered, sitting on the sofa.

"Father?" she repeated in disbelief, her voice trembling.

Tokiomi finally looked up. Seeing Rin, a smile appeared on his face. "Ah, it's Rin."
