Elder Tadayoshi's Mansion
Mikoto had packed everything she needed into a bag and was ready to leave, but she hadn't gone yet. She was still waiting for the person Kanzou had promised to send to look after her grandfather in her absence.
While they waited, the two of them sat together in silence, tea growing cold between their hands.
In a way, this would be their last tea together like this. After today, Mikoto would leave the house she had lived in for nineteen years and move in with Kanzou.
They wouldn't be far apart; their homes were within the same compound, close enough to see each other whenever they wished. And yet, despite the proximity, an uneasy weight lingered in the air.
The atmosphere felt somber, heavy with unspoken sadness.
Tadayoshi hadn't touched the tea she had prepared. His thoughts drifted instead to the little girl Mikoto once was, and the woman she had become.
"I still remember when you were so afraid to sleep alone," he said softly. "You'd ask me to stroke your head until you fell asleep… and now…" His voice cracked.
Letting his granddaughter go as this filled him with sorrow, so much so that he struggled to hide it.
He was a man who had never shed a tear in front of Mikoto, not even when his son and daughter-in-law had died one after the other. Back then, he had been the one to care for her, holding her as she cried herself to sleep.
But now… he was finding it painfully difficult to hold back.
"Sofu-sama…" Mikoto murmured, her voice catching. Seeing her grandfather choke up as this stunned her, she had never seen him this way, and the sight filled her with guilt. "I-I'll still be in the Clan… you can see me whenever you want. A-and… I-I'll come by often. I'm not even taking everything, just some clothes…"
"I know… I know…" Tadayoshi replied, covering his eyes with his thumb and middle finger as if to hold back the tears threatening to spill.
"I always knew a day like this would come… but not like this. I wasn't prepared."
"I will be happy," she said softly.
"I pray for that," he replied. "I truly pray to the ancestors that you receive the happiness you deserve… I truly hope so."
"I will…" she repeated, even though she herself didn't know whether that happiness would truly come.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
DING-DONG~
"Maybe the person Kanzou-sama sent is here," Mikoto said as she stood and went to answer it.
When she opened the door, she found a small girl, no more than ten years old, standing outside. The girl bowed politely. "Mikoto-sama…"
"You're… Suzume-chan, right?" Mikoto asked, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.
The girl was another civilian child from the Clan.
Suzume nodded. "Kanzou-sama sent me."
Mikoto blinked, momentarily wondering whether someone so young could truly manage everything on her own. Still, she didn't question it and stepped aside. "Come in."
Suzume nodded and entered, then bowed respectfully to the elder. "Tadayoshi-sama… I will be your caretaker while Mikoto-sama is away."
Tadayoshi pursed his lips. Since when had it become necessary for a ten-year-old child to take care of him?
"I don't think I'll be needing your help," he said curtly. "You may return to your home."
"This was Kanzou-sama's instruction," the girl replied calmly. "I cannot leave unless he tells me otherwise."
In that moment, both Mikoto and Tadayoshi understood, the girl wasn't there merely to assist with daily chores. She was also there to keep watch over the elder.
'So… he's keeping his guard up even against me,' Tadayoshi thought. He didn't voice it. Instead, he scoffed. "Do whatever you wish."
With that, he picked up the cup of tea and began to drink. It had already gone cold, but since Mikoto had prepared it, he intended to finish it nonetheless.
Sensing the growing awkwardness, Mikoto gently led Suzume to another room.
She understood what was happening, but she couldn't bring herself to speak about it directly. That was something she would have to discuss with Kanzou later. For now, there was something else she needed to ask.
Once inside, she spoke softly. "Will you really be able to look after Sofu-sama?"
"Since that is the order I've been given, I will," Suzume replied. Then she added, "But I'll need to know the Elder's daily routine and other important details."
Mikoto nodded and took out a notebook, handing it to the girl. "Here. I've already written everything down." She went on to explain several other matters as well.
After listening carefully and reviewing the notes, Suzume nodded. "I understand. I will take care of Tadayoshi-sama properly. You may rest assured, Mikoto-sama."
In truth, Mikoto wasn't at ease at all, but she didn't wish to question Kanzou's decision. She nodded quietly, then turned back toward the other room, where Tadayoshi was still drinking his tea.
She entered, lowered herself to her knees, and bowed deeply in dogeza. "Sofu-sama… thank you for taking care of me all these years. Now… I am going to the house of the man I wish to call my Danna-sama. But no matter what happens… I will never forget the kindness you have shown me."
After setting the empty cup down on the table, the elder reached out and gently patted Mikoto's head, lifting her face to look at him.
"You don't need to thank me," he said softly. "I only did what I had to do, what a guardian… what a parent is meant to do. And if you truly wish to repay me, then live a life you won't regret. More than anything else… stay safe."
Mikoto couldn't hold back anymore. Tearful, she leaned forward and hugged Tadayoshi, burying her face against his chest. "Sofu-sama…"
"Mikoto…" the elder murmured with a faint smile, patting her back in reassurance.
Suzume remained outside the room, quietly giving the grandfather and granddaughter their moment.
.
.
.
After some time, Mikoto pulled away and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes as she stood.
Elder Tadayoshi rose as well. "The Patriarchal Ascension Ceremony will be tomorrow," he said. "Make sure to inform Kanzou-kun."
"I know," Mikoto replied with a nod.
She slipped on her sandals, offered a final bow to her grandfather, exchanged a brief word with Suzume, and then opened the door and walked out as Tadayoshi watched with a sigh.
After Mikoto left, Suzume turned to the elder. "Tadayoshi-sama—"
He cut her off with a wave of his hand. "You don't need to take care of my daily affairs. And you can tell Kanzou-kun that I have no intention of causing him trouble. You may go."
Suzume ignored the dismissal and continued calmly. "According to the list Mikoto-sama gave me, it will be your tea time soon. I shall prepare it."
Tadayoshi sighed, realizing the girl had no intention of listening. Shaking his head, he turned and walked toward his room, toward the rack lined with bottles of alcohol.
"I think," he muttered to himself, "I'll drink myself to sleep."
…
Kanzou's Mansion
When Mikoto arrived at the mansion, she noticed several carts lined up in the courtyard of his house, each loaded with crates and boxes.
Teenage members of the Uchiha clan moved back and forth, carrying the stuff inside.
When they spotted her, they paused to bow respectfully.
"Mikoto-sama…"
"Mikoto-sama…"
After paying their respects, they quickly returned to work.
"…Um?" Mikoto frowned slightly, confused by the sight. "What's going on?"
Puzzled by the activity, she stepped inside and soon found Kanzou in the study, where most of the boxes were being brought.
"Kanzou-sama," she greeted, bowing.
"Hm?" He turned toward her. "You're back already. Did you bring your things?" His gaze shifted to the bag in her hand.
"This is it," she said, lifting it slightly.
The bag wasn't large, nor was it particularly small, but it held just a few changes of clothes. Even Kanzou seemed mildly surprised.
"I told you not to bring too much at once," he said, eyeing it. "But are you sure this is enough?"
"I can bring more later," she replied lightly.
"Up to you," he said with a shrug. "Go ahead and arrange your things properly in the closet. If you feel any problem in space, just move my stuff to the side… Make yourself comfortable."
"I… understand."
She was curious about the boxes, especially after noticing several scrolls among them, but she knew better than to overstep.
Holding back her curiosity, she bowed once more and left the study.
She went to the bedroom and opened the closet, only to be met with a mess. Instantly, the part of her that valued cleanliness kicked in. She knew she couldn't leave it like this.
'Kanzou-sama did say I could move his things aside…' she thought. 'So there shouldn't be any problem, right?'
With that settled, she began arranging the closet. Since she had brought very few of her own belongings, she finished rather quickly.
"…What should I do now?" she murmured.
Kanzou was clearly busy, and she didn't want to disturb him. Still, she felt restless and uneasy, as though she needed to keep herself occupied.
She knew what she needed most right now was sleep. She hadn't slept at all the previous night, and that was without even counting all the sex she had had with him before, or the emotional strain she'd endured earlier today. The exhaustion weighed heavily on her.
Yet she resisted the urge, forcing herself to stay awake and think about what she could do.
She didn't have to think long.
As she noticed the sun slowly sinking toward the horizon, the answer came naturally. "It'll be dinner time soon… I guess I'll prepare dinner."
The only problem was deciding what to make.
'May be something Kanzou-sama likes,' with that in mind, she returned to his study.
By now, the people moving boxes had finished their work and left, leaving only the two of them in the mansion. She slid the door open after politely knocking on it and looked toward Kanzou, whose back faced her as he examined a scroll.
"Kanzou-sama," she called gently. "What would you like to have for dinner?"
Without looking up from the scroll he was sorting, he replied casually, "Anything's fine. I'm not a picky eater."
'That's not an answer at all…' she complained inwardly, then asked aloud, "Is there really nothing specific you'd like to eat?"
For a brief moment, pizza crossed his mind; he hadn't eaten it since reincarnating into this world. That's already over seventeen years. But knowing she wouldn't know how to make it, he dismissed the thought.
"How about something with beef?" he said instead.
"Beef… I see," she nodded. At least now she had a starting point. "I'll go to the market to buy the ingredients. Is that alright?"
"Hm? Sure," he replied with a nod, already returning his focus to the scroll.
Mikoto quietly picked up her wallet and a carry bag, then left the house to purchase what she needed.
…
While purchasing the ingredients, Mikoto ran into a few acquaintances.
The atmosphere felt awkward, after all, something major had happened in the Clan that day, and Mikoto stood at the center of it. People were naturally full of questions and curiosity, yet most hesitated to speak, especially in front of her.
Still, a few found the courage to approach her. One of them was Kasumi.
"Mikoto-sama," Kasumi greeted her.
"Kasumi-san," Mikoto replied with a nod.
She wasn't particularly in the mood for conversation, but she didn't mind returning the greeting.
"Ahem… Mikoto-sama… about what happened today…" Kasumi began carefully, testing the waters.
Mikoto interrupted gently, "Kasumi-san… I'd prefer not to talk about it." For one, she really didn't want to talk about it, and for second, she was also worried that speaking too much might reveal cracks others could notice, so it was safer to avoid the topic altogether.
"I understand," Kasumi said, not pressing further. "I just wanted to know if you're doing alright."
Her concern was genuine. She knew how stressful the day must have been for Mikoto and didn't want to burden her with questions; she simply wanted to make sure she was okay.
"I'm alright, Kasumi-san… I've never been better. And why wouldn't I be?" Mikoto replied. "After all, I'm finally free from that hideous man ruining my life." Her expression turned icy as Fugaku crossed her mind.
"I… I see," Kasumi said, unsure how to respond. She felt a pang of sadness for what Mikoto had endured, yet at the same time, the coldness in Mikoto's expression stunned her; it was something she had never seen before, and it left her momentarily frozen.
Realizing the murderous intention she had let slip, Mikoto quickly curbed it back and bowed apologetically. "I apologize… I lost my composure just now."
"It's alright," Kasumi said, waving a hand gently to reassure her.
"I'd also like to thank you for your concern," Mikoto added with another bow. "And if you'll excuse me, I need to prepare dinner for Kanzou-sama. Perhaps we can talk another time."
"I understand. I won't keep you," Kasumi replied, noticing that Mikoto wasn't in the mood to talk. She understood why, after everything Mikoto had been through, it was only natural, and she let her go without pressing further.
With that, Mikoto turned and walked away.
After she left, another woman stepped up beside Kasumi. "How is she? Did Mikoto-sama say anything?"
"She said she's fine…" Kasumi answered, then hesitated. "…but—"
"It's obvious she isn't," one of the women said quietly. "Who would be, after everything she went through? Being threatened like that by the very man she was meant to marry, then forced to confess everything in front of everyone… how humiliated she must have felt…"
"At least Kanzou-sama seems to have accepted her despite everything," another added.
"Hopefully she'll move on from Fugaku and return to her old self," someone else said.
A sigh followed. "I'm happy for Mikoto-sama… but I can't help feeling jealous. She was accepted by Kanzou-sama, while I…" The woman trailed off bitterly. "I wrote him so many love letters, and he never replied to a single one."
"Maybe Kanzou-sama simply likes someone like Mikoto-sama," another woman said softly. "And if you ask me… Kanzou-sama and Mikoto-sama would also look good together…
Kasumi listened in silence, barely following the conversation as her gaze drifted back down the street where Mikoto had disappeared. A thoughtful expression settled on her face.
'Seiji-san… I wonder what you would think of all this…' she thought, her mind turning to her husband, who had been away on a mission for quite some time. She let out a quiet sigh. 'You should return soon… The Clan is changing so much and so quickly, and I don't know whether these changes are right or wrong. Only you could make sense of it all…'
…
After finishing dinner, Kanzou returned to his study to continue organizing the boxes. Mikoto stayed behind to wash the dishes, and once she was done, she prepared some after-dinner tea and brought it to him.
She knocked, then slid the door open. "Kanzou-sama… I've prepared some after-meal tea."
"Hm?" He blinked and looked up at her. "Come in. Have a seat."
She entered and sat beside him, setting the cup down on the square table in front of him. "Here… it should help."
He hummed softly and took a sip. Then he glanced at her and asked, almost casually, "How are you feeling? Moving in with me all of a sudden."
The question caught her off guard. After a brief pause, she answered honestly, "It feels a bit… strange. I don't think I'm used to it yet."
"Well, it is your first day—second, if you count last night," he said lightly. "You'll probably get used to it in a few days."
She nodded. "Hmm…" and took a sip of her tea.
A brief silence followed before Mikoto brought up what had been weighing on her mind. "Kanzou-sama… about Suzume-chan—the one you sent to take care of Sofu-sama's daily life… is she there only for that, or…?"
She didn't finish the question, trusting that he understood what she meant.
Kanzou nodded. "It's exactly as you think," he said plainly. "She's also there to keep an eye on Tadayoshi-sama."
The honesty made her tense. After a moment, she asked carefully, "Is that really necessary? Sofu-sama… I'm sure he wouldn't—"
He shrugged. "It's not about whether he would or wouldn't. It's a precaution, and a message. I want it to be absolutely clear that I won't tolerate opposition." He paused, then fixed his gaze on her. "Are you against what I'm doing?"
That look made her avert her eyes. She shook her head quickly. "N-no… i-if you believe it's necessary… t-then I have no objections."
In truth, she did mind. She didn't want her grandfather living under watch like that, but there was nothing she could do.
"I'm glad you see it that way," he said, satisfied with her answer.
Silence settled over the room again as Kanzou returned to his work, taking occasional sips from the cup. Each time it emptied, Mikoto quietly refilled it so he could continue uninterrupted.
She sat there in silence, not just because she wanted to, but because she had nothing else to do. She was new to the place and didn't yet know where she belonged or what she should be doing.
So she remained where she was, careful not to disturb him. She simply watched as he worked, her gaze occasionally drifting to the many scrolls and scattered items filling the study.
At some point, Kanzou noticed her attention lingering on the scrolls and asked casually, "Are you interested in reading them?"
Caught off guard, she replied quickly, "I-it's not that… it's just… I was wondering what all these scrolls are. You had the clansmen bring them here, right? Where did they come from?"
"From Fugaku-san's mansion," he answered casually.
"From… Fugaku's?" Her eyes narrowed at the mention of his name, displeasure flashing across her face. Then understanding dawned. "You mean the former Patriarch's belongings?"
Kanzou nodded. "That's right. These were managed by Douma-sama, records of history, titles, land deeds, mining rights, mission archives spanning centuries, genealogies, jutsu scrolls, and more. Now that I'm about to become the Patriarch, it's my responsibility to study and manage all of it. That's why I had everything brought over."
"I see… that's a lot of work," she said, nodding. Looking around at the sheer number of scrolls, thousands, by the look of it, she finally grasped just how much responsibility had landed on him all at once.
"Yeah," he replied. "When I look at all this, on top of everything else I'll have to handle, I start having second thoughts. Do I really want to become Patriarch? It's an overwhelming amount of work. I'm not even sure I want all of this on my shoulders."
After all, his focus should be on growing stronger and accumulating Evil Points, not burying himself in endless records and paperwork.
"If you don't become Patriarch, then who will?" she said, shaking her head. "There's no one else in the Clan who could take the position."
Fugaku had already been exiled. Now, authority, strength, everything, rested with Kanzou alone.
"That's not entirely true," Kanzou replied. "There is still someone in the Clan who could compete with me, and I think you already know who that is."
Mikoto didn't need time to think. The answer came to her immediately. "Seiji-san?" she asked hesitantly.
"Yeah," Kanzou nodded. "His strength is probably not inferior to Fugaku-san's. And as the son of the late Uchiha Kagami, he could still gather support if he tried."
Uchiha Kagami had once been a candidate for the position of Patriarch, and a faction within the Clan had supported him. Although that support came to nothing after he died on a mission, it hadn't vanished entirely. Even now, a remnant of it still remained.
And if Seiji chose to challenge Kanzou, those lingering supporters of Kagami would likely rally behind him.
Mikoto couldn't refute that. "Then…" she asked carefully, "do you want to give him the position of Patriarch?"
She didn't want that outcome. If given the choice, she would much rather be the wife of the Patriarch than of anyone else, since she wished to marry him, she naturally wanted him to hold that position.
And honestly, she had never believed Kanzou would give the role of Patriarch to anyone else.
Just as she expected, he snorted dismissively at her question. "Give him the position? And for what?" he scoffed. "So the entire Clan can become Sarutobi Hiruzen's dogs? Don't be ridiculous."
He would rather take on extra work himself than ever allow Uchiha Seiji to become Patriarch.
She hadn't expected such a blunt response, especially the implication that Seiji's leadership would reduce the Uchiha to tools of Sarutobi Hiruzen. The weight of his words unsettled her. "Kanzou-sama… to say something like that…"
"What?" he replied coldly. "Uchiha Kagami was a dog. Do you really think his son would be any different?"
He even added inwardly, 'And let's not forget Shisui. He was a dog too, in the canon.'
Maybe in that line… being dogs is an inherited trait, passed from father to son.
Mikoto fell silent, unsure how to respond.
She understood the Clan's internal politics well enough to know the prevailing opinion about Kagami, and, by extension, his son. And truthfully, that view wasn't entirely unfounded. On several occasions, Kagami had favored Sarutobi Hiruzen and the Hokage faction over the interests of the Clan, leaving her with little she could honestly refute.
In particular, the matter of Sarutobi Hiruzen becoming the Sandaime Hokage still lingered as a sore point. After Senju Tobirama's death, Kagami had both the opportunity and the backing of the Uchiha, yet he chose not to pursue the position. Instead, he accepted, without protest, the late Hokage's decision to appoint Hiruzen and even supported it.
That choice left many clansmen deeply dissatisfied. To them, it seemed Kagami valued the Sarutobi Clan and the will of a deceased Hokage over his own people, who were ready to support him. Only those seen as blindly loyal continued to stand by him, and that, too, became part of the grievance.
Even understanding all this, Mikoto didn't want to speak of Seiji in that light. He was her friend's husband. So she remained silent and gently steered the conversation elsewhere.
"Then… Kanzou-sama," she said carefully, "if this is too much work for you to handle alone… m-may I help?"
If the burden was heavy, she wanted to ease it, even if only a little. Beyond that, she knew she needed to show her usefulness, helping him felt natural. And truthfully, she also needed something to occupy herself and keep her thoughts from drifting.
Hearing her offer, Kanzou's eyes lit up slightly, and he nodded. "Alright… help me with—"
And so, with Mikoto's assistance, he continued sorting through the documents for the next few hours.
…
At another mansion within the Uchiha Compound, Uchiha Seiji had finally returned from a long mission.
He sat at the table while his wife, Kasumi, half asleep but still attentive, served him a late meal that she had just whipped up in a hurry.
"Has Shisui gone to bed?" he asked.
"Yes. Shisui-chan went to sleep on time," Kasumi replied, sitting across from him. Then she asked gently, "How did the mission go?"
"There were some complications, but overall it went well," Seiji answered. "I still need to submit a report to Hokage-sama." It was already late, and he assumed the Hokage would be resting, so he planned to do it the next morning. Anyway, it wasn't anything urgent.
Kasumi hummed softly before speaking again. "Seiji-san… while you were away, many things happened within the Clan."
His hand paused mid-motion. He looked up at her, expression sharpening. "I did sense something off, not just in the Clan, but in the village as well. I wondered if something had happened while I was gone. Tell me… what did I miss?"
Kasumi nodded and began to recount everything: the sudden arrests of Douma and Fugaku, Kanzou's appointment as Captain of the Police Force, the deaths of the former Patriarch and two elders, the introduction of the so-called Security Management Fee, and even the arrests of major figures in Konoha, including the Hyūga Patriarch and Sarutobi Hiruzen's son. She also spoke of the annulment of Fugaku and Mikoto's engagement, Fugaku's exile from the Clan, what had happened to Mikoto, her confession to Kanzou's and other things.
"This…?" Seiji was stunned. For a moment, he didn't know how to react.
Too much had happened in just a few days, and without question, all of it traced back to Kanzou.
Setting aside Fugaku's exile and what had happened to Mikoto, what truly troubled Seiji was the fact that the Police Force had arrested figures like the Hyūga Patriarch and Sarutobi Shinnosuke, and was now demanding a so-called Security Management Fee.
'This is not good…' he thought grimly. Actions like these sent a clear message of hostility, and such messages would never go unanswered.
The Uchiha Clan was strong, but it wasn't strong enough to act this brazenly without consequences.
Worse still, these actions themselves were dangerous. They sowed discord at a time when cooperation and stable relations between the Clans were more important than ever to maintain the stability of the village.
"All of this started after he became Captain of the Police Force?" Seiji asked.
Kasumi nodded. "Yes…" Then she added quietly, "And now he's set to become the Patriarch. The ceremony is tomorrow."
"Tomorrow…?" Seiji narrowed his eyes.
Personally, Seiji didn't know Kanzou very well.
There was nearly a decade between them, so it was only natural that they hadn't interacted much. What Seiji had heard, however, was Kanzou's reputation, his overwhelming talent, his strength, and the way people spoke of him as perhaps the most gifted Uchiha of all.
'No… I do know some things about him.'
On the few occasions they had crossed paths, Seiji had seen it clearly in the young man's eyes: condescension, an ingrained sense of superiority, and unmistakable narcissism. He was also aware of Kanzou's elitist views and his firm belief in Uchiha supremacy.
'He clearly inherits Madara's ideology…'
Seiji knew there was a faction within the Clan that still clung to Madara's ideals and the notion of absolute clan supremacy, and in his view, Kanzou stood at the very forefront of that group.
The fact that Kanzou followed Madara's ideology rather than the Hokage's Will of Fire was deeply troubling.
And it didn't stop there. Kanzou had imprisoned the Hyūga Patriarch and even the son of the Sandaime Hokage. That alone made his intentions clear; he had no desire to cultivate friendly relations with other clans or the Hokage faction, nor did he intend to submit himself to the Hokage's authority.
'Someone like that is about to become Patriarch…' It weighed heavily on Seiji, filling him with unease.
After giving it some thought, Seiji couldn't shake the feeling that Kanzou was not someone who should become the Patriarch of the Clan. Once that happened, his actions would likely grow even more brazen.
Yet, even knowing this, Seiji understood it was already too late to stop him. While he possessed considerable strength, he lacked the status and backing needed to oppose Kanzou directly.
With the former Patriarch and two of the three elders dead, Fugaku exiled, and Mikoto now living with Kanzou, there was simply no viable way to stop his ascension as the next Patriarch.
'The only thing I can do now is speak to him,' Seiji thought grimly, hoping that his words would steer the young man from a path he should not walk.
…
Back at Kanzou's Mansion
Working together proved far more efficient than working alone. Even so, the task was too large to finish in just a few days, but it was moving along much faster than before.
As the night deepened and the clock neared midnight, Kanzou, still focused on a scroll, asked, "Mikoto… did you finish up with that scroll…?"
There was no reply, only the faint sound of slow, steady breathing.
He lifted his head and saw that she had dozed off, her head drooping forward.
"Fell asleep, huh?" he murmured, unsurprised.
She hadn't slept at all the previous night, after all. It was only natural that exhaustion would catch up to her. Glancing at the clock, he thought, 'Almost midnight… I should stop here.'
He stood and stretched briefly before walking over to her.
For a moment, he considered waking her. Then he shook his head and gently lifted her into his arms.
As she was carried, her eyes instantly shot open in alert. "Huh?"
After all, as a Kunoichi, how could she remain asleep while being moved like this?
"It's alright… keep sleeping," he whispered softly, using a chakra-laced voice that hypnotized her back into sleep.
"Hmm~" she giggled a little, nuzzling her head against his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his neck, a faint smile formed on her lips as she returned to the land of dreams.
He carried her to the bedroom and laid her down on the bed.
As he watched her sleeping form, the thought briefly crossed his mind, "Should I fuck her just like this?"
After all, that was supposed to happen in the night, and he did seem to feel a slight twitch in his crotch… It's just that sorting all those scrolls had delayed him, and she had been far too exhausted, drifting off before anything could happen.
But seeing her sleep like that, he let out a quiet sigh. "Forget it… let her rest."
Although the thought of ravaging her in her sleep briefly crossed his mind, he dismissed it just as quickly. There was no point in doing anything while she slept; she wouldn't even be aware of it.
More importantly, tomorrow was an important day, and she needed proper rest to be ready for it.
With that in mind, he set the thought of tormenting her aside, just adjusted her to make her more comfortable, changed his own clothes, then lay down beside her and drew her into his embrace.
Before long, he too drifted into sleep.
