Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Betrayal Within the Black Guild

The crimson sky outside the city of winds was no longer just a backdrop — it felt like a living omen, bleeding into the streets and alleys like a warning from the cosmos. Azarel's heart was a storm, furious and cold. The Black Guild, his supposed allies and brothers-in-arms, were about to betray him.

The night air carried a bitter chill, as if the multiverse itself sensed the impending fracture.

**

Azarel crouched in the shadow of an ancient pillar, his senses sharp and his Supreme Sword humming softly against his back. His System interface flickered silently, scanning for any abnormal energy signatures. The Black Guild's hideout wasn't far — a labyrinthine fortress hidden beneath the bustling market district, concealed from ordinary eyes by layers of cultivation seals and cybernetic veils.

His mission was clear: infiltrate, discover the traitor, and stop whatever plan was set in motion. But every instinct screamed caution. The people he once trusted were now masks hiding daggers.

"System, analyze potential enemies nearby," Azarel whispered, barely audible.

A cold, mechanical voice replied with its usual dry tone, "Thirty-four hostiles detected, five with cultivation levels above 7, two with unknown power signatures."

Azarel's lips curled into a grim smile. The Black Guild was no simple band of thieves — they were a powerhouse in this MMORPG-reality fusion, wielding secrets darker than the void.

**

Inside the fortress, the Black Guild's leader, a man known only as Kuro, stood at the head of a long table, shadows flickering on his angular face. His voice was calm but deadly, the kind of calm that whispered destruction.

"The Immortal Boss thinks he can reclaim power here," Kuro said, eyes gleaming with malice. "But the Multiverse has changed. Old gods fall, and new tyrants rise."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the gathered members. Among them sat Lyana's name whispered with a mixture of fear and reverence. Some believed she was a myth; others, a threat.

Kuro's gaze hardened. "Our orders are clear. We neutralize Azarel before he awakens fully. If the legendary wife stands in our way, she too must be dealt with."

**

Back outside, Azarel's mind raced. He could feel the tension in the air — a trap closing in. But there was more. A fragmented memory flickered: a soft voice calling his name, a promise of eternal love. Lyana's voice, lost in the mists of his broken past.

His hand instinctively brushed the small pendant hidden beneath his tunic — the only thing he had from her.

Suddenly, footsteps — swift and silent — approached from behind.

"Azarel," a familiar voice whispered, laced with fear and urgency.

He spun around, sword ready — but froze.

It was Rin, his closest confidante within the guild, the one who had always watched his back.

"Why are you here?" Azarel's voice was low, wary.

"I didn't want you to find out this way," Rin said, eyes glistening. "There's a traitor. It's worse than you think. Kuro plans to use the System to reboot the entire guild — to rewrite history and erase anyone standing in his path. Including you."

Azarel's grip tightened. The betrayal was deeper than he feared.

**

Together, they slipped through hidden passages, dodging patrols and security arrays. Rin explained everything — the infiltration, the secret pact with the multiversal tyrant Varion, and the ultimate goal: to capture Lyana and harness her sealed power.

"She's more than just the 'Legendary Wife,'" Rin said breathlessly. "She holds the key to the Supreme Sword's true potential. If Kuro and Varion get their hands on her, no one can stop them."

Azarel's mind raced. The pieces were falling into place, but the cost was heavy.

"I have to warn her," he said, determination burning in his eyes.

**

Their escape was anything but clean. Alarms blared, cultivation spells flared like wildfires, and shadowy assassins lunged from the darkness. Azarel and Rin fought side by side — a perfect blend of swordsmanship and system-enhanced cultivation arts.

Azarel's Supreme Sword roared, slicing through enemies like a scythe through wheat. But the overwhelming numbers forced them into a desperate retreat.

Finally, they burst into the open night, breath ragged and hearts pounding.

"Next time," Rin gasped, "we won't be so lucky."

Azarel nodded, the weight of the betrayal pressing down on him like a mountain.

**

Later, beneath the scarlet glow of the moon, Azarel stared at the city skyline.

The Black Guild was broken — but its venom had spread. Allies were enemies. The multiverse was a web of shadows, and every thread threatened to strangle him.

But he was no longer just a fallen god. He was the Immortal Boss — and with Lyana by his side, the Legendary Wife whose memory he must restore, he would defy fate itself.

The battle had only just begun.
