Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Can I Win?

"That's it for the new school rules," Taiga crossed her arms at her waist.

"Eh~", A student complained, "Sensei, I still have to go to my part-time job after school!"

Time moved back ten minutes earlier.

Taiga announced a new rule issued by the school: all students must join a club.

The reason was to enrich the students' recent campus activities.

"No way, Miss Taiga, I still have cram school."

As the number one academy in Japan, all students had plans for further education.

Some individuals had even prepared to study abroad.

Simply put, with the students here, having brains wasn't special, there were also those with both brains and effort.

Some classes even had a studying atmosphere where, after class, students would stay in the classroom to study unless they had to use the bathroom.

Shirou, unfortunately, had only average grades here.

'By the way, Miyu is ranked first in her grade, very impressive.'

"This has nothing to do with me as a teacher," Taiga acted as if it wasn't her who set the rule, and then added, "Also, it's not like you have to stay in the club all the time. As long as you meet the attendance rate, it's fine."

Hearing that, everyone reluctantly quieted down.

Guaranteeing attendance basically meant clocking in every day.

However, some clubs had high goals, like aiming to dominate the entire country.

For those clubs, don't expect to coast by.

Shirou now had a headache. He was in the "Go-Home" club, with no intention of joining anything.

Fujimaru Ritsuka also knew this, so she turned her head, "What will you do, Emiya-san? Do you want to join my and Mash's club?"

"What club are you two in?", Shirou asked anyway.

Mash answered, "Ritsuka and I are in the literature club, we can leave early."

"Then I'll take a look."

'Being able to leave early isn't bad.'

"Okay, let's eat lunch together, and afterward I'll show Emiya-san around."

Ritsuka made a fist gesture; her closed fingers were slender and delicate. She looked very cute.

Shirou felt a bit strange.

How to put it, it felt like looking in a mirror, with a feminized version of himself on the other side. And today, Ritsuka seemed to be deliberately approaching him.

'Why?'

"Alright, that's all for this morning's class, see you again in English class this afternoon."

Taiga hugged the teaching materials and left the classroom in a good mood, greeting Kuzuki Souichirou who was standing at the door.

"Good morning, Kuzuki-san."

Kuzuki Souichirou, ever silent, glanced at her.

'She seems happier than usual today, why?'

He didn't think much of it, after checking the time he enterd the classroom, "Class begins."

The class rep called for everyone to stand.

After sitting down, Shirou shifted his attention to the system.

He hadn't thought of it earlier, if training could be entrusted, then studying should be too.

["Detected learning environment. Do you want to initiate hosting?"]

'Nice, just what I was thinking.'

'Though… it doesn't feel like anything is happening.'

'Wait a second! The teacher is teaching, what am I doing?'

Expressionless, like Assassin Red A, Shirou picked up the textbook for this class, World History, flipped through the pages quickly, and immersed himself in his own world.

The rustling sound of the pages made no effort to avoid anyone's attention.

As a partner of justice, Shirou had a strong heart; as Hero Emiya, Shirou's will was even stronger, he feared no one but Miyu.

Not even the world.

The end result was—

"Emiya Shirou," He was called by Kuzuki Souichirou.

Shirou poked himself.

'Damn system, wake up!'

Clack!

Shirou closed the textbook and stood up with the aura of someone ready for a fight.

'Can I win?'

'Don't answer me, system, I don't want to become a clown.'

"Hmm?", Kuzuki Souichirou adjusted his glasses.

"Do you have some dissatisfaction with my class, Emiya-san?"

"No," Shirou spoke like an emotionless machine, "I just think that self-study is more efficient."

'It's not that I dislike his class… it's that I dislike him. That's even scarier.'

The atmosphere turned heavy in an instant.

Ritsuka shifted uncomfortably, wanting to look back but not daring to.

Mash peeked at him.

'What happened to Emiya-san just now? He feels so dominant. Unexpectedly… kind of cool!', Thinking of something, Mash's small face turned red.

"Is that so?", Kuzuki Souichirou stood tall and straight.

Shirou was no slouch either. In fact, he looked even colder.

"Then, repeat everything I just said."

Shirou did as told, clearly enunciating and even extrapolating.

Kuzuki Souichirou listened in silence.

At some point, a few students seemed to awaken from a dream and started taking notes.

Until the bell rang for the end of class, Kuzuki Souichirou said nothing, he just picked up his materials and left the classroom.

Hosting ended, Shirou plopped back into his seat.

'Thankfully, it was Kuzuki-san, the type who doesn't overreact.'

If it were another teacher, such blatant insubordination might have been fatal.

'Looks like the system must be used carefully.'

"Emiya-san, you were amazing! When Kuzuki-san looked at you just now, I didn't even dare meet his eyes," Ritsuka exclaimed.

"Not really," Shirou brushed it off while checking what the hosting had given him.

He was surprised to find he had really learned a lot, he'd remembered everything just taught.

Even the parts he flipped through in the book were imprinted in his brain like words from a printer, impossible to forget.

'What is this?'

'A learning machine?'

No wonder he didn't need to listen in class, self-study really was more efficient.

"What's the next class?", Shirou asked casually.

Mash glanced at her phone.

"PE class, the last period this morning."

"Then we need to go change into gym uniforms."

Ritsuka grabbed Mash's hand, "Let's go, Mash."

Then she looked at Shirou, "Emiya-san, want to come along?"

Shirou: "?"

"Why would I do that? To watch you change clothes?"

"Jeez, Emiya-san!", Ritsuka blushed and protested, "Lewd thoughts aren't allowed! I just meant, do you want to walk together."

The boys' and girls' locker rooms were next to each other.

"Right, Mash?", she asked.

"Ah! No way, Emiya-san, bad thoughts are bad!", Mash's face turned bright red, nearly jumping up in surprise.

Ritsuka yelled, "What are you thinking, Mash?"

"Ah! That, nothing! I wasn't thinking anything! Let's go, Ritsuka!"

Mash was flustered, pushing Ritsuka out of the classroom.

From behind, Shirou could still see her red ears.

'As expected, eggplant girl.'

Shirou didn't mind, he shrugged and went to find someone.

Yes, Ryuudou Issei, Shirou's classmate.

They usually chatted before class, but today they hadn't exchanged a single word.

"Finally remembered me, Emiya?"

The two walked side-by-side toward the boys' locker room.

"I never forgot you, Issei."

"Really?"

The graceful and refined Ryuudou Issei looked doubtful.

"I saw you chatting happily with those two beautiful girls all morning; and what was that stunt you pulled in class?"

"Issei, this kind of thing won't be the last. You'll need to get used to it."

Shirou walked proudly.

"Why so?"

"Because, hmm… are you in love?"
