Chapter 4 - Strangers

The full moon hanging above the sky glowed with brightness as the chattering sound of countless people inside the ship continuous.

"There was nothing there. It's obviously a fraud."

"How can that be? We risk our lives trying to get that information."

"Should we bring them back to life and kill them again?"

"Alex, would you stop talking about 'killing' for a atleast one day?"

Alex let out a snort as he caress his dagger as if he was petting a pet. Their faces fall into confusion, aside from one person who had expected this situation from the start that believing such information was a trap.

"Aside from that, there are also two people there just like Captain said, they're finding the same thing."

"Now that you mentioned it, didn't he said to bring them?"

Four heads snapped at the same person as he simply replied.

"They're gone."

"Gone? They escaped?"

"No. He killed them." A companion who's assigned together with him revealed.

Silence followed afterwards. As if already expecting it, the only female in the group stood up before nodding her head.

"Then they're useless now. Saemon, report it to the captain."

Saemon, who's been quiet throughout the whole conversation flinched. He pointed to himself and stuttered, "M-me? Why me? Cassius should do it."

Cassius, who's assigned to the mission and been standing in the corner looked over at Saemon with malice.

"You want to die?"

After asking that, his eyes snapped at Ruby who's been standing for a while. As if understanding the message Cassius was conveying through his gaze, Ruby looked at Zane who went on the mission with Cassius.

This situation happened a couple of times and the ending always end up the same.

Zane nod his head towards Cassius. The door creaked open and a figure slowly entered the room.

They watch as the figure casually stride towards the table and sat on the head chair, opposite to where Cassius was standing. The man's eyes scanned the silent room—no—them. He's looking at each one of them.

The atmosphere in this small room thickens. If a nomal person was here, they would be already laying dead on the ground. However, none of the people inside is normal. Especially the man himself.

"The information was a fraud. Someone already found it–no–took it and maybe sold it."

Sold it? But thay can't be. No one would sell such a valuable item, moreover, after a decade the pirates are more active after having their curiousity piqued that if such a legend exists.

"At that haunted mansion," The man paused before looking at Cassius. The corner of his lips curled up, "You didn't found it?"

Everyone's attention turned to the person responsible for the matter.

"No." Cassius commented. It was a split second when a dagger flashed before of his eyes, it stopped at the center of his forehead, however, he didn't move. He calmly stared at the dagger froze midair before focusing his eyesight at the man sitting on the head chair. Those tanzanite eyes turned pitch black.

"Didn't I told you? If you can't find it then bring the insects trying to find it. Why do you think I gave you that mission for?"

"They're just normal pirates just like everyone else's, moreover, talking to them would be pointless anyway." He reasoned. Cassius didn't lie about it, this is just a normal town they went into to find that item because of that useless information. Rumours spread faster than a virus. It's no surprise if any normal person in this town knows about it as well.

The man's eyes returned back to normal as the dagger fell on the ground with a loud 'thud' as it resonate the space in the room. Cassius glanced at Zane, indicating for him to speak. They may have parted ways and surveyed the house differently but he know that the latter found something.

The other person nod before speaking.

"I found something else," Zane approached the head of the table and put a piece of old paper on the table and pushed it towards the man, then he casually went back to his position. They're curious about what's written on that paper, however, none of them can open it because there's a black aura emitting from that object.

The piece of paper was picked up and easily unfolded. They all remained still for a whole minute and Cassius wished nothing but to get out of the suffocating room. There was only six of them inside but it felt too crowded. The man raised his hand holding the paper and it dissapeared through thin air.

"It's a diary." He informed.

"The duke's diary?" Ruby asked.

Everyone waited for an answer but didn't recieved anything from the man. Instead, he looked at Ruby and questioned her instead.

"I gave you a mission as well, right?"

Now that he mentioned it. Cassiusremembered the bastard who almost got all of them killed. His jaw clenched in annoyance. If it weren't for him then we could have caught one of those notorious pirates and got information out of them. Shit, I should have killed him when we first met.

"He's in the room." Ruby apprise.

"And fucking lost his memory." Alex added.

Cassius face turned into turmoil at the news.

"Maybe the trauma triggered him after drowning."

Saemon guessed and Cassius could agree on that but there's one question he want to ask.

"What trauma?"

Bingo.

"I don't know but I remember him mentioning about being terrified of water...I think?"

That's the most ridiculous thing Cassius heard in his entire life.

If he's afraid of water then why the hell did he decided to be a pirate to begin with?

What an idiot.

Sighing in dissapointment, his name was suddenly mentioned. Cassius eyes landed on the man's face, and he's smiling, however, that's not a smile you wanted to see because when he smile like that. He's planning something evil.

"You go."

It felt as if his dignity and pride was crumbled. He cursed silently in his head before standing up straight then walked out from the door with an irritated expression.

Kael, who's been observing in the corner finally spoke.

"Don't you think that's the most torturous thing you could ever do to him?"

The man snorted before responding. "No, I'm giving him a self-development mission."

No one laughed except for Saemon who's covering his mouth, trying to fight off his laughter but it was in vain. When he looked up and saw everyone looking at him with serious faces, his mouth turned into a thin line before apologizing.

"Sorry."

Meanwhile, inside an specific room.

Nathan don't mind being inside the room for one hundred days, however, if he's staying somewhere he don't even know then he might as well jumped off on that window. But there's a problem, it's so small that hencan't fit in it. Thus, all he could do was groaned in annoyance.

This small space feels like a prison. He's been wondering for hours on why the hell he's laying on the bed and staring at the ceiling instead of escaping through the door. Moreover, he's really starving. It felt like he didn't eat for one whole week.

Nathan's body sat up as he stare outside the small window. It's already dark outside, the moon was shining bright and thanks to that, there's atleast a light inside this dark room.

Once again, he contemplated if he should just run away. Turning his head toward the shut door, he stood up and walked over there. Questions starts pouring like rain drops inside his head.

Should I do it? What if that freckle man is outside? Am I going to get killed? Why should it matter? I want to die anyway. He shut his eyes and took a deep breathe. With courage, he exhaled then his eyes opened before he reach out on the handle.

Suddenly, the door burst open. The hard surface hit his forehead causing him to groan in pain and stumble back and fell on the wooden floor with a 'thud'. He carefully touched his forehead and hissed.

Shit.

"What a sight to behold."

An unfamilliar voice spoke, it doesn't sound like any of those people he met earlier. Slowly, Nathan raised his head and a matching golden eyes stared at him.

The man took two steps towards Nathan then crouched before him. The corner of his lips curled up. Nathan examined him, he wore the same clothes as the others, it's the attire he haven't seen before but maybe he already had.

"Is it true?" The male asked and Nathan's brows furrowed in confusion. Now what the hell is he going to ask that I don't know. My eyes widen a little as I surmise

Don't tell me he'll try to kill me as well?

He raised his left hand and pointed it on his left temple. "Your memories are gone?" In realization, Nathan's face relaxed. He blink a couple of times before lying, well, part of it since he's not entirely lying.

"Seriously?" He wasn't asking Nathan, he's asking himself in disbelief. He suddenly leaned in, it all happened in a second that I couldn't back away immediately. Nathan's whole body froze as his eyes widen in surprise.

His heart starts pounding on his chest and they both stare into each other, the man's eyes turns brighter as the moonlight shines on it, it's something Nathan have never seen in his life.

Maybe he got so mesmerized that he didn't realize how long they've been staring at each other. He instantly stood up and backed away, his legs wobbled but he managed to stand.

The other person calmly rise up before tilting his head on the other side causing a few strand of his raven hair land on his eyes. Feeling uneasy, Nathan adverted his gaze elsewhere and gulped.

"Who are you?"

At that question, his pounding heart became more louder and faster this time.

"You're not that bastard, who are you?"

Nathan attention returned back on the man. "I should be the one asking you that, who are you?" He changed the subject, he can't afford getting caught because he'll cetainly die. Moreover, if the male finds out that he's lying right now, it would turn into a worse case scenario.

The man squint his eyes at Nathan, showing mistrust and doubt before suddenly introducing himself.

"Cassius."

"Pardon?"

"My name's Cassius. Does that name ring a bell?"

Nathan's brows knitted. Why does it sounds so familliar yet unfamilliar at the same time? He shakes his head telling him 'no' and watch the man lick his bottom lip, showing frustration.

"You really can't? You don't remember getting us killed? Drowning yourself and almost getting killed?"

Alex mentioned all of that thing happening to this person as well but Nathan can't remember any of it.

"No." He admitted.

"Fucking bullshit."

Cassius tapped his feet on the wooden floor.

What is he so uneasy about?

"You even don't remember-" Cassius paused and stared at Nathan who's waiting for him to finish his words but only recieved a 'tsk'-ed instead.

One moment he's being friendly and then suddenly being angry for no reason.

What a kid.

"Come out. Captain's order."

That again. Just who is this captain they're talking about.

"Ah, incase you don't remember him, his name is Marrow, we call him Captain Marrow and he's known as the Grim Reaper of the sea. However, don't call him the latter or else he'll skin you alive." Cassius turned around and walk out from the door. Nathan didn't move on his spot and just watch the other person.

As if not sensing Nathan behind him, Cassius turned around with a slightly annoyed expression. "What? You also can't move? Should I drag you out of this room?"

Nathan slide his tougue over his bottom lip trying to calm his nerves. He admit, the man is literally annoying with or without doing anything. With an uneasy feeling, he finally walked out from the prison room. There are two narrow hallway to the left and right direction.

Before he could even notice, Cassius was already walking on the right passage. Nathan dragged his feet and followed behind the other person behind. The man's strides are so wide and footsteps so heavy that he seems to carry such a heavy weight on his shoulders. It's his first time seeing him but there's a sense of familiarty of this person to Nathan.

It was so confusing.

When his steps halted, the same goes for me. Nathan only realized by then that there was a door beside them. Cassius turned his body towards the shut door, grabbed the handle, then opened it.

The door creaked open revealing revealing faces some familiar faces and some strangers. There was someone who caught his attention the most. He has his back at Nathan that's why he can't see the person's face but there's a voice inside his head telling him to 'run away'.

Cassius was the first to enter the room leaving the door open for Nathan. He scanned the room, it's wider than that room he was in.

"What? Don't just stand there. Should I really drag you inside?"

Cassius voice resonated in his ears. Nathan entered the room and felt the hard gazes landed on him instantly. Right now, all he wanted to do is bury himself alive.

Galncing at Cassius who's casually leaning his body against the wall. When their eyes met, he nod his head towards the empty chair indicating for him to sit there. Nathan fixed his attention back at the person sitting on the head chair.

Hesitantly, he approached the table and carefully sat on the empty chair. There was a candle at the center of the wooden table. The woman he saw earlier was sitting opposite to him with glare. In the corner of his eye was the person sitting on the head chair and he immediately regretted doing that.

Nathan adverted his eyes back to the candle. If you have a strict or scary teacher, mother, or anybody and you wanted to avoid them getting angry at you then that man is one of them.

"Alex said you lost your memory?" The unknown man asked.

Nathan nodded, confirming.

"All of it?"

"All of it." He repeated.

"I told you, he's scheming something again." Alex spoke. Nathan fought the urge to yell at the boy and tell him that he don't fucking understand what he's saying and he won't do something like that.

"Shut up, he said he lost all of it. What's the point of asking him over and over again."

Now they're making him sound like an idiot.

"What if he's just lying? He's a very good actor."

Now he's an entertainer.

"Should we open his head and scan his brain?"

Now he's going to be experimented?

"Shut up." The man said in a demanding tone. He rest his arm on the table with his fingers entwine afterwards, his eyes never leaving mine.

"Who am I?"

Nathan's head snapped towards him with his face filled with confusion. Who is he? How should I know? I don't know him.

"I don't know." He manage to blurt out.

"Did he lie?" Nathan thought that the question was directed at him when suddenly, a voice spoke. It was Cassius. "No." He simply said.

The man tilted his head and smirked in amusement. He didn't say anything and rose up from the chair before calmly demanding, "Saemon, I'm giving you a new mission. Tell him everything he asks." After that, he turned around and left the room.

The woman opposite to me did the same as three people followed afterwards. Nathan saw a man he haven't seen before, he have an eerie aura around him.

Suddenly, a warm hand landed on his shoulder. His whole body froze as he turn his head on the right side and someone's already seating beside me. It was Saemon.

His face looks like he's been encharged to babysit his sibling by his parent.

"Ask what you want to ask, I want to sleep early." He notified. Everything that happened is so far from what Nathan expected. He thought they're going to kill him since they're showing such hostility.

This is going to be a long

Inside the Golvion Palace. The sound of shattering glass echeod the exquisite chamber as pieces of broken glasses scattered on the floor with crimson blood over it's surface.

"It wasn't there? And they were killed? Are you asking for a death wish?"

The person kneeling on the ground gulped nervously. He took more courage to speak in a respectful and calm tone.

"I'm deeply sorry, your highness. I promise to find the person who did that and bring their head to you."

"Forget that. Promises are all empty words, I bet you'll even run away tomorrow morning."

The prince raised his head and looked towards the moon. His golden eyes glistened. He licked his blooded bottom lip then turned around to see one of his men kneeling on the ground.

"Get out." The person slowly rise up with his head remained lowered as he walked out from the door. Since it's midnight, no one is awake in the palace. Once the door was shut, he groaned before cursing.

"Fucking shit."

A royalty shall not say such vulgar words. That's one of the rules when you have such a blood running through your vein. Fuck that shit. We are all human who's just born with different lives and power.

The male rub his face with his palm in exhaustion before muttering.

"How long am I going to spend my life trying to find that thing?"
