Chapter 265: The End of Makima
It was time to leave work.
Kenji Tanaka happily left the company and walked to the nearest subway station.
During rush hour in Tokyo, the subway stations were always crowded.
There was no other option.
Kenji Tanaka had no choice but to squeeze in.
"Make way...".
He finally got in, and it was then that a new poster surprised him.
"Is this... Chainsaw Man?" asked Kenji Tanaka with curiosity, looking at the poster.
Just like the final episode of Edgerunners, the final story of the first series of Chainsaw Man received a great deal of publicity from the manga community.
However, this was not the final episode, but the last two.
After all, the crucial battle to kill Makima took place in episode 96.
Episode 97, the finale of the first season, focused more on the daily plot and a sequel.
The poster showed a group photo of the numerous characters from Chainsaw Man, with Denji's hands transformed into chainsaws, held in front of him.
Below, there was a text: "The end of the first part of Chainsaw Man has arrived! Here end all errors and sins!".
On the other side, there were several posters.
These included individual posters of popular Chainsaw Man characters.
For example, there were posters of the protagonist Denji, popular supporting characters like Aki Hayakawa, Power, Himeno, and even Makima, nicknamed the villain by the fans...
Each poster also included a slogan.
"Chainsaw Devil, the hero of hell; Chainsaw Man, the hero of the human world. I am both!".
"Oscillating between despair and hope, in the end, 'loss' becomes the engine of survival."
"Denji, this is the contract between us...".
"Aki, if I could hear your tears, it would be a reason for joy...".
"I will use the powers of Chainsaw Man to create a better world!".
...
After seeing the slogan for the end of the first part of Chainsaw Man, Kenji Tanaka immediately bought a copy of Manga World Gogo near his house and began to enjoy the end of the first part of Chainsaw Man.
Continuing from the previous episode, Makima took Pochita, Denji's heart, and secured the final victory.
In the midst of the corpses, Makima took a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of one of the Public Safety Devil Hunters' suits.
She sat before a cross, lit the cigarette, and took a deep drag.
However... after exhaling, she began to cough violently.
This scene felt a bit absurd.
After all, Makima had always acted with such strength, and she had previously drunk Aki Hayakawa and Himeno under the table at the Class 4 party without getting drunk.
A powerful woman who could drink a thousand cups without getting drunk... no, should I say, a devil? Didn't even know how to smoke? Or was she smoking for the first time? Makima took a drag from her cigarette, pressed it against the ground, and put out the butt.
Then she took out Pochita, Denji's heart. Although she didn't smile, Kenji Tanaka noticed her satisfaction.
"I have beaten you twice," she declared, looking at Pochita in her hands. "Chainsaw Man, you are mine."
"From now on, we will be together forever," Makima even rubbed her face affectionately against Pochita, declaring happily, "We will enjoy delicious food together, sleep together, and live happily together."
Kenji Tanaka was stunned by this scene.
Makima, known for her cruelty, really acted like this.
One can only say... she is a true fan of Pochita, a fanatic to the point of being almost pathological.
So... from another perspective, Makima's previous affection for Denji must have been genuine.
She was simply attracted to Denji's Chainsaw Man scent.
Her true love was Pochita! And just as Makima and Pochita were embracing... behind her, a "corpse" dressed in a Public Safety Devil Hunter suit slowly rose.
A strange sound was heard...
"Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz"... Was it... the buzz of a chainsaw? "Huh?"
Makima noticed something unusual and turned around.
But then she saw... Denji, who should be dead, running towards her with a chainsaw held high! But it was too late.
Denji took the chainsaw and attacked Makima, and instantly a large amount of blood gushed from Makima's chest.
"Ah... huh?"
Makima didn't realize what was happening.
Why... hadn't she killed Denji completely? Denji had disappeared.
After all, she recognized people by their scent. How could Denji be alive if his presence had disappeared? Even Pochita was in her hands.
How could he be resurrected at that moment and seriously injure her with a chainsaw?
Makima was seriously injured, with blood gushing from her chest, and she knelt before Denji.
She looked at Denji, and Denji, with a bloody face, said, "I've finally found a flaw... Give me back Pochita."
He picked up Pochita from the ground and put him in his chest.
"He was about to...".
Denji looked at Makima with indifference and said, "All the blood we got from Power has been used up...".
"How... could this have happened...?" said Makima with disbelief in her eyes.
Denji clarified, saying, "The one who fought against Makima all along was Pochita, the one I tore from his heart."
"I came up with this trick in a trance."
So that's how it was. So it wasn't Denji who initially fought against Makima, but Pochita.
The real Denji had hidden himself, disguised as a corpse.
So that's how it was... Even without Pochita's heart, Denji was able to survive for a bit.
And when Makima, believing she had killed her and finally letting her guard down, pounced on her and attacked Makima.
But then... it was Pochita who had been fighting Makima, and it was Pochita, the real Chainsaw Devil, who spat at her.
It was a bit ironic to think that. Everything Makima said later, even the inability of the real Chainsaw Man to spit, wear human clothes, speak, and act crazy...
all of this was the work of Pochita, the authentic Chainsaw Devil, the Chainsaw Man.
In short, what Makima saw was only the facet of her idol that her fervent fans expected to see.
Just like real-life celebrities, how could they be as perfect as their fans imagined? The real Chainsaw Man was not what Makima imagined.
Pochita... was actually just a warm and understanding little dog.
But then, the blood gushing from Makima's chest seemed to slow down.
"Is the wound healing more slowly?" asked Denji. "I made the chainsaw with Power's blood and then let it run rampant through your body."
So, that's why Makima's wounds haven't healed yet.
But...
"Makima still retains that contract. As long as it's not broken, she is immortal," said Kenji Tanaka anxiously. "It seems Denji should have a way to break Makima's contract, right?"
If not, Makima would return.
"Just with that trick..." said Makima with disdain.
However, Denji replied, as expected, "Of course I didn't expect to kill you like this."
Hearing this, Makima showed horror.
At that moment, a van appeared.
"Ah, just in time, the professor is coming to pick me up," said Denji, looking at the van.
Under Makima's gaze, he finally said, "I'm sorry, Makima."
The last scene was Makima watching Denji's chainsaw slowly approach.
Then the scene changed...
"Huh?"
Kenji Tanaka was stunned for a moment and asked, "And what happened in the end? Is there a way to kill Makima completely?".
He continued to watch, and soon he would see the definitive end of Makima.
The next scene was a quiet and peaceful scene of various parts of the city.
Finally, night fell, and the coast appeared in front of the house that Denji had rented before.
"Ah, my back hurts..." said Kishibe after opening the door and entering. "Ready?"
"Okay, okay," said Denji, stretching his shoulders. "Ah, I'm so tired."
"Now let's get down to business," continued Kishibe. "The rest is up to you."
"As we speak, many innocent people are dying. I hope you can act quickly."
"But physiological reactions are something you can't control..."
Kishibe's inexplicable words left Kenji Tanaka bewildered.
"What? Can the Riddler get out of here, please?" he said, speechless.
"Okay, I'll do it at my own pace," Denji replied immediately.
Kishibe stood up and said, "Let me be clear. I don't think your method will kill Makima completely... Prepare to fail and die."
"I was the one who came up with that plan, huh?" said Denji indifferently. "I've been mentally prepared for this."
Kishibe was silent for a moment, then came to Denji's house and said, "I'll be back, if you're still alive."
Finally, before leaving, he said to Denji, "Don't die, Denji...".
"You are the most suitable devil hunter I have ever met."
Seeing Kishibe close the door, Denji said, confused, "What the hell?".
He looked again at the empty house...
Makima seemed dead, but... Aki Hayakawa and Power, the people she killed, would never return.
Denji was alone again, which was heartbreaking...
But then, Denji suddenly said, "I'm hungry..." and began to search in the closet behind him... for food?
