Chapter 436: Island of Past and Future
"What?! That Brett bastard attacked the research base!"
Location: Navy Science Division research base inside Punk Hazard's mountain range.
Currently, the base commander stationed here was cold-sweating while urgently contacting Fleet Admiral on the other end via Den Den Mushi.
Fleet Admiral Sengoku on the other end—just critically injured, still lying in a hospital bed—his voice still sounded quite vigorous. Even through the Den Den Mushi, made this Navy base commander tremble.
"Yes, Dr. Caesar personally witnessed that man's arrival. Shamefully speaking—aside from him, none of us could see that man's face clearly. Unprecedented terrifying Conqueror's Haki directly knocked everyone in the entire base unconscious." The base commander said very shamefully.
Thus Fleet Admiral Sengoku on the other end also fell silent. Conqueror's Haki capable of directly rendering even Navy Vice Admiral-level powerhouses unconscious—only that Brett bastard could possibly possess such degree.
"What did he do there?"
The voice from the Den Den Mushi could be described as gritted teeth.
Punk Hazard's base commander thus fell silent briefly. Then bitterly raised his head.
The base that should've been fully enclosed—its ceiling now gaped with a massive crater. Like a sinkhole.
Brilliant sunlight thus shone down from the large pit. But falling on his body—only made him feel bone-piercing cold.
"Both Dr. Vegapunks were taken by him. Their collection room and laboratory were also taken together."
The base commander said this.
Sengoku fell silent again. Undoubtedly, this was the worst scenario.
"I understand. I'll report this to the Five Elders. Just maintain order on your end for now."
The base commander could only painfully close his eyes. Then hung up. He knew he was finished.
Even though the invading Brett was an opponent he simply couldn't resist—so what?
Both Dr. Vegapunks seized—he'd no longer have any place in the Government.
Marine Headquarters.
Just rested briefly—immediately hearing terrible news—Fleet Admiral Sengoku also painfully frowned.
"Brett... Brett..."
Sengoku raised his hand extremely troubled, clutching his hair. Mouth repeatedly muttering that man's name.
Never encountered such a terrifying opponent. Even Roger who'd conquered the Grand Line. Even Rocks who'd once made the World Government feel crisis. Even those two—absolutely wouldn't be as dangerous as the current Brett.
This was the first time—such thoughts arose in Sengoku's heart. If the final war erupted—did the World Government truly have certain victory?
However, the more troublesome matter now—how to report this to the Five Elders?
Bad news after bad news—could the Elders' hearts withstand it?
When the fainted Punk Hazard Navy research base soldiers awoke and reported to Headquarters, Brett had already left that island with his targets—heading deeper into the New World.
Under Brett's full-speed advance, didn't take long. They'd already arrived at an island.
This was a snow-covered island. Heavy snow fell continuously, dyeing the entire island pure white.
"This is—Egghead Island?"
Standing atop two massive buildings wrapped in flame clouds floating in the sky, Brett overlooked the white island below. Without turning his head, he asked thus.
Observation Haki swept once—discovered this was an uninhabited island. No signs of life anywhere.
He noticed aside from extremely frigid weather, ocean currents around the island were also abnormally chaotic. Even nearby seas harbored numerous sea beasts.
No wonder nobody landed here.
Behind him, the absurdly huge-headed Vegapunk excitedly jumped around. He tried using his hands to catch falling snow. But these snowflakes had already been blocked by his massive head.
Indeed hadn't contacted the sea's snow and wind for quite a while.
Clone Vegapunk spoke at this moment. "Right here. The place connecting past and future."
"Since already decided to leave the Government—certain things left on this island must be taken."
"Understood."
Brett nodded lightly. "Take the entire island together?"
This island wasn't particularly massive. At least smaller than Punk Hazard. Packing and taking it whole—not particularly difficult.
"No need. Just need taking certain necessary things."
Clone Vegapunk said.
He guided Brett's direction.
Thus Brett again took both of them plus their laboratory and collection room—entering the island.
Island center—following a massive cavity downward. Finally arrived at an underground pit.
"Whoa."
Brett sighed lightly.
Indeed ruins. Broken mechanical fragments everywhere.
Many styles Brett had never seen before. But without exception—all bore traces of passing years.
However, what caught Brett's attention—naturally that quite massive humanoid machine lying on the ruins.
A giant made purely of machinery.
"Haven't come in so long. Truly nostalgic."
Vegapunk finally returned to normal. Overlooking that ruins below, sighing quite emotionally.
Clone Vegapunk also nodded lightly. "Can you imagine, Brett? Over eight hundred years ago, a great nation existed in this world—civilization hundreds of years more advanced than current seas."
Relics left during the Blank Century?
"Of course I believe it. I even know—"
Brett turned around. His lips curved. "The nation that left these ruins—isn't its name—"
"..."
Howling wind in the cavity masked his voice. But both Vegapunks heard clearly.
One main body, one clone—simultaneously eyes widened.
"Br-Brett!!"
Clone Vegapunk almost stumbled lunging toward Brett. He cried out incredulously. "How do you know this name?!"
This was clearly a name deliberately eliminated from history!
Ohara's scholars expended all their power barely managing to discover its name. How did Brett know?!
"Well, probably because—"
Brett smiled. Smile containing mostly playful components. "I've already been to the final island, right?"
"EH!!!!!"
Both Doctors simultaneously stood dumbfounded.
Ha, look at you playing riddle games with me. Now the tables have turned.
