Chapter 152 - Chapter 153: Please Skip Class With Eris, Meow!

"Oh~ you only got one wrong!"

Ghislaine raised her head and respectfully took the pop quiz from Rudeus.

It was addition and subtraction within two digits.

In just half a year, Ghislaine had mastered two-digit arithmetic to the point where it was as precise as the blade in her hand…

Accurate.

Swift.

With an unreasonable beauty.

"42 + 17 = 96."

"You got this one wrong. As I taught you before, if a two-digit addition problem seems complicated at first glance, and if the sum of the units digits does not exceed 10, then you should break it down to simplify it. You did that part well, Ghislaine. 40 + 10 = 50, 2 + 7 = 9, so…"

It was baffling, making one's head spin.

After listening, Ghislaine nodded and wrote down the solution in her crooked Human-tongue next to the problem. Her speed was slow, and she often had to look up and ask Rudeus to repeat himself. But her expression was very serious.

In a way, although her reading and writing skills were still terrible, they had improved much more than her arithmetic skills.

Rudeus's face showed no trace of impatience; in fact, there was a smile on his lips.

At least this was a student who wouldn't skip class, right? And she had a serious attitude.

Mmm…

He looked at Ghislaine's rather revealing outfit…

The smile on his lips vanished.

He remembered Paul's rather inappropriate words when he went home to visit last month, "Are Ghislaine's breasts big?"

Is that something you can say to a child?!

And besides, I was hired to be the young lady's tutor! Not her Sword King teacher's teacher!!

At this rate, I'll be kicked out of the Boreas mansion, won't I?

He rubbed his face helplessly and looked at the clock on the side.

It had been ten minutes since class started.

Sylphie had been right.

Those two problem 'students' had indeed skipped class.

Rudeus looked away and at Sylphie, who was staring blankly at something, lost in thought.

"Even though Alan takes leave every time, this can't go on, can it? Eris is always imitating him. Before, she would skip class once or twice a week. These past few days, she hasn't come to class at all."

"…Mmm… Alan will persuade her to come back to class."

Rudeus squinted at Sylphie with a very speechless expression, not saying a word.

After a long moment, Sylphie seemed to realize that her words weren't very convincing and scratched her cheek in embarrassment.

"Then should we go 'up' and 'persuade' them to come back?"

"Yes! You just realized that now?!"

On the rooftop, Alan's mouth twitched at Eris's proud expression. He walked over to her side and wiped the rainwater from his face.

With this movement, Touki steamed from his body. Its 'texture' was viscous and heavy.

Between him and the sky, it was as if a transparent curtain had been drawn, separating him from the rain.

The rain still fell, but around him, it could not penetrate.

Dark raindrops hit about thirty centimeters above his head, as if hitting glass, then slid powerlessly down the 'glass' and around him.

Alan had entered his 'room.' Through the 'window' of flowing rainwater, he met Eris's gaze.

Seeing this, she wasn't surprised at all. She just blinked rapidly and reached out to poke the 'glass' of flowing rainwater between them.

Her fingertip extended into the rain, piercing the curtain.

Raindrops hit her finger, creating a faint white outline.

The next moment, the outline disappeared.

The remaining rainwater dripped slowly from her finger, hitting the roof tile with a soft pat.

Did the rain stop?

Eris raised her eyebrows and quickly looked around.

The rain hadn't stopped. The gurgling stream of water that had been in front of her was now on her left, right, and back.

She had been invited into Alan's 'room.'

Seeing that it was no longer raining on her, Eris casually pushed her bangs back from her forehead, just like Alan. With her eyebrows and eyes fully exposed, though their hair and eye colors were different, their expressions were strikingly similar.

Their sharp eyes gave them a powerful 'presence.'

"I've seen this! The Flow technique! When are you going to teach me, Alan!"

Eris remembered this from the rainy night in Buena Village half a year ago, when Alan had used the Flow technique to shield himself and Sylphie from the rain. But at that time, he had been holding Sylphie's hand. Now, it seemed he could do it without physical contact. It must be that Alan's Flow technique had improved in just half a year.

"When you learn to release Touki externally. But given your characteristics in using Touki, it might be difficult for you to learn this."

A smile spread across Eris's lips. She crossed her arms, about to speak confidently, but Alan's next words cut her off.

"I've told you many times, it's very dangerous up here. Don't follow me up here… Why are you here again? And it's class time, right? You skipped class again?"

Eris's smile froze. She said stubbornly, "Y-you're skipping class too, Alan!"

Alan frowned and tilted his head, looking at Eris with the expression of someone dealing with a problem student.

"I'm a teacher, and I asked Sylphie and Rudeus for leave beforehand… but you're a student…"

"I asked for leave too!"

"Oh? And did they agree?"

"I agreed!"

The air was silent for a long moment. The rain continued to flow outside the glass-like shield of the Flow technique, the sound of it pitter-pattering clearly.

After a long time, under Alan's silent gaze, Eris finally dropped her arrogant expression.

"I don't want to go to class."

"No. Go back to class."

After being explicitly rejected, Eris's face flushed red in an instant. She stuck her neck out and stared at the curtain of rain outside the shield. After a long moment, she slowly raised her hands, her wet fingers digging into her hair.

She grabbed her long, wet red hair at the roots and, with nimble and practiced movements of her wrists, quickly tied it into a ponytail.

And then…

"Pl-please skip class with Eris, meow! ☆"

Her eyes were shining as she puffed out her cheeks and stared straight at Alan!

Her wet hair was stuck to her cheeks.

Not at all arrogant.

Instead, she looked like a drenched little kitten.

—This was the Boreas-style method of making a request.

Alan was stunned.

He stared blankly at the little finger Eris had left sticking out from her ponytail.

It was imitating a cat ear.

And Eris's expression was incredibly animated! She blinked at Alan's face and pressed her advantage!

"I don't want to go to reading and writing class either, meow! ☆"

"I don't need to go to arithmetic class either, meow! ☆"

"Just let me skip class with Alan today, meow! ☆"

Alan's expression seemed to be frozen in time. He was stunned for a long time before he finally came back to his senses.

He squeezed the words out from between his teeth.

"I've told you many times…"

"That doesn't work on me."

"There's no way I'm letting you skip class! So just give up on that idea…"

"Please skip class with Eris, meow! ☆"

"No!!"
