I am Uchiha Gin, and ever since I got stuck with this ancient system, I haven't had a single good day.
Not only do I have to complete the sh*t missions it assigns me, but I also have to go around tricking people and getting beaten up, and then at night I get ambushed by random skills the system spawns in my own backyard.
And now, the hard-earned points I scraped together for completing missions have been swallowed by the system.
Life is too hard!
"Ding. Slot machine loading complete. Please explore on your own."
With the system's prompt, the previously unremarkable slot machine let off a dazzling light, making Gin squint.
When the light faded, a brand-new blue slot machine stood in front of him.
It looked no different from the ones in arcade halls of his past life: a display at the top to show points, and the classic three glass panels below.
The panels scrolled with words instead of the usual symbols. Gin leaned closer and saw the words "Nin," "Tai," and "Sei" rolling past. In the middle was a clear explanation of combinations.
Nin + Nin + ? = Ninjutsu Effect ×2
Nin + Nin + Nin = Ninjutsu Effect ×10
Tai + Tai + ? = Taijutsu Effect ×2
Tai + Tai + Tai = Taijutsu Effect ×10
Sei + Sei + ? = Chakra Capacity ×2
Sei + Sei + Sei = Chakra Capacity ×10
? + ? + ? = Random Effect ×2
Each spin costs 10 points. You can choose immediate settlement or accumulate rewards.
PS: Immediate settlement applies the bonus to your next specified skill use. Accumulated rewards can be exchanged 1:1 for corresponding stat points.
He patiently read through the instructions. Then, seeing his own empty points counter, Gin asked suspiciously:
"Don't tell me you already spent my points?"
"Congratulations, host! Lucky streak activated. Luck +100% (Guaranteed critical combo on spin)."
"So you DID spend them!?"
Gin stared blankly, dead-fish-eyed.
[System, is there any way to help me survive this crisis?]
A projection of Gin asking this question appeared midair.
"The system detected the host's request and executed emergency risk-avoidance. Since you only had points to use, the system spun on your behalf."
There was a distinct note of schadenfreude in the mechanical voice.
"Congratulations, host, you rolled Nin + Nin + Nin: Ninjutsu Effect ×10 / Nin +10. Host did not choose in time, system randomly selected: Ninjutsu Effect ×10."
"…."
Go ahead and play on my phone, I'm done!
This damn system not only lags but also decides to gamble on its own. Completely outrageous.
At least now Gin understood where his ridiculous oversized Goukakyuu came from. But still… he felt his heart ache.
That was 10 whole stat points! Knowing that his stats were still mostly single digits, he quickly called up his panel:
Host: Uchiha Gin
Nin: 7
Tai: 8
Int: 9
Sei: 6
Cha: 1
Eye: 10
Skills: Basic Taijutsu, Goukakyuu no Jutsu (Fireball), Beginner Uchiha Kenjutsu, Intermediate Shurikenjutsu.
Overall Evaluation: Slightly clever, two-tomoe, punchable-type Uchiha chuunin.
If he'd gotten those 10 points in Nin, he might've pushed his ninjutsu strength to special jounin level.
As he thought about his attributes, he suddenly noticed something odd.
Why were the slot's rewards only "Nin," "Tai," and "Sei"? Those correspond well enough to stat points, but why no "Int" or "Cha"?
"Because host's intelligence and charm are already off the charts. The system cannot alter them."
The system's cold voice suddenly chimed in.
"Intelligence 9, Charm 1. What the hell do you mean!? Might as well just end it all now!"
After grumbling a while, Gin sighed and glanced at his hands. The crisis outside wasn't over yet.
There was no way he could beat Uzumaki Hanamichi head-on with his current strength—unless that thing Uzumaki Mito gave him really worked.
He couldn't just hide in the system forever. Might as well go out and try.
He exited the system. Outside, barely an instant had passed.
Uchiha Fuuhi was still staring at him in shock, while Hanamichi stayed at a distance, using his sensing ability to probe Gin.
"Strange… this guy's chakra is indeed much greater than a normal Uchiha's, but it's not enough to explain that terrifying Goukakyuu. How did he do it?"
Hanamichi couldn't figure it out. Even more puzzling, he could feel a faintly familiar, comforting energy inside Gin.
"Is he… a half-blood?"
Hanamichi guessed. Then his eyes fell on Gin's face.
Being stared at by Hanamichi made Gin feel as if he were being stripped and ogled, and when he noticed the guy kept staring at his face, he thought in horror:
"Wait. This guy's big and strong but has a pretty face… don't tell me he's that way!?"
He clenched his butt involuntarily.
"Gin… I don't know how you erupted with such power, but it's useless for this battle. Run. Don't come back this time."
Having recovered some, Fuuhi stood up and walked over to Gin, who was sweating nervously, and comforted him, thinking he was just scared.
"Captain, I think their target may be me. Let me hold him here. You go help Ryouichi and the others. Once you take care of that other Uzumaki, come back to support me."
Gin finally had an excuse to send Fuuhi away. Noticing Hanamichi's eyes glued to him, he suggested.
"But your strength…"
Fuuhi hesitated, clearly thinking: "you're too weak."
"Don't worry, Captain. I've transformed completely. Doesn't the clan always say, an Uchiha only awakens true power in desperate situations?"
Gin's two-tomoe Sharingan spun as he turned to look at Fuuhi. Fuuhi paused, seeing this, and muttered:
"So it really is latent potential…"
Few in the clan ever awakened the Sharingan at all. That Gin did so at his age, and advanced to two-tomoe in just one battle, left Fuuhi no choice but to chalk it up to latent talent.
"Then be careful. I'll finish up quickly."
As he left, Fuuhi gave Gin a long look, as if memorizing his face.
"What's with that look? I'm not really going to die."
Gin couldn't help but complain.
In truth, as Fuuhi turned, he thought to himself:
"You really are his child. I believe you'll create a miracle."
"…Finally got rid of the nuisance. I never cared about him anyway."
Hanamichi glanced at the departing Fuuhi, rolling his steel-strong shoulders lazily.
Hearing him say "interest," Gin's face turned green.
"Don't tell me… this big guy is into guys?!"
