Chapter 41: The War God Known as "White Fang"
Inside the graduation classroom of the Ninja Academy, the air was thick with tension.
Today marked the annual event where fresh graduates would be assigned into three-man teams under the guidance of a Jōnin instructor.
As more and more students were called away, Nohara Rin's heart gradually sank.
Eventually, only she and Obito remained in the room. Doubt crept in, and Rin could no longer keep the pessimistic thoughts from surfacing.
'Just as I thought... I really am nothing special. Is there not a single Jōnin in the village who wants to take me in? Maybe I just don't have what it takes to be a ninja…'
But while Rin quietly spiraled, the boy sitting beside her, Uchiha Obito, was having entirely different thoughts.
'Just me and Rin?! That means... we'll be on the same team! YES!'
Obito's grin stretched from ear to ear, his inner joy almost impossible to contain.
Now the only question was—who would be their Jōnin sensei?
Not that Obito particularly cared anymore. As long as Rin was on his team, the rest was just details.
But then… a voice rang out from the hallway. A voice that made Obito's entire expression twist in disgust.
"Uchiha Obito, Nohara Rin, come with me."
"Huh?! That voice… no way!"
Hatake Kakashi!?
Even after several years of distance, Obito instantly recognized the voice of his childhood rival—and the guy he just couldn't stand.
Obito shot up, ready to bark a complaint, but Rin beat him to it.
"That was Kakashi, wasn't it?" she asked with a hint of excitement in her voice, turning toward the door.
Of course, she recognized that voice too.
Sure enough, Kakashi stepped inside, his face as stoic as ever.
"Obito. Rin," he said flatly, "Your Jōnin instructor will be my uncle—Hatake Kyūjō. Also, I'll be joining your team as a member. Let's go."
The announcement stunned the room—but not in a good way for Obito.
"What? Hatake Kyūjō? A Jōnin from the village? I've never even heard of him!" Obito scowled, pointing accusingly at Kakashi. "Are you just making this up to mess with us? And if he's really our instructor, why isn't he here himself?"
Kakashi's eye twitched. That crossed a line.
Kyūjō wasn't just anyone—he was Kakashi's uncle and one of the most respected elite Jōnin in the village.
"How dare you!" Kakashi's voice turned icy. "Just because you've never heard of him doesn't mean he isn't real! Do you seriously think someone as useless as you deserves to be taught by my uncle? This is the last time I'm asking—are you coming or not?"
Seeing the tension escalate, Rin tried to say something to defuse the situation.
Too late.
Obito leapt up onto a desk and jabbed a finger toward Kakashi, yelling with righteous fury.
"I'm not worthy?! Then forget it! Tell your precious uncle to find someone else! Uchiha Obito refuses to be his student! I swear, even if I—"
Before he could finish, a flicker of blue lightning erupted around Kakashi's body.
In the blink of an eye, Kakashi disappeared from his spot and reappeared directly in front of Obito.
Thud!
Obito was knocked flat onto the floor.
Without a hint of hesitation, Kakashi hoisted the unconscious boy over his shoulder and turned toward Rin.
"Let's go," he said casually. "Uncle's cooked lunch. He's waiting for us."
"Uh… okay." Rin blinked, then glanced worriedly at Obito slumped over Kakashi's back.
"He's okay, right?"
"I just blocked one of his tenketsu with Lightning Chakra. He'll wake up soon."
Only then did Rin relax a bit, and the three of them set off toward the Hatake residence.
— — —
Two hours later—around one in the afternoon—the dining table at the Hatake home was covered in empty plates.
Kakashi stared with barely suppressed rage as Obito continued shoveling food into his mouth like a starved beast.
He set down his chopsticks with a sigh and stared hard at Obito.
"Didn't you say, and I quote… 'Uchiha Obito would rather starve to death than eat a single bite in this house'?"
Obito, clearly unfazed, mumbled through a mouthful of rice, "Mmgh… yeah, I said that. But this is food made by our teacher, not you, Kakashi! Why wouldn't I eat it?"
Before Kakashi could retort, Obito proudly reached out with his chopsticks and grabbed the very last grilled sanma on the table.
"Man, Sensei's cooking is amazing! Especially this sanma… it's perfect. Hah, don't tell me you're mad because you didn't get any?"
Veins bulged visibly on Kakashi's forehead.
That... that was his favorite dish!
How many of them had that idiot already eaten!?
All Kakashi could do was scream silently in his head.
— — —
Kyūjō, who had been watching the chaos unfold with a calm smile, couldn't help but chuckle.
He didn't rush to assign missions. Instead, he handed each of them a scroll.
And gave them the rest of the day off.
Each scroll contained a unique technique of his own creation.
For Rin, it was a set of medical ninjutsu.
Just like in the original timeline, Rin had strong potential as a medical ninja, and Kyūjō had no intention of changing her path.
In fact, he thought she had even more promise than that wide-foreheaded pink-haired girl from the future.
As for Obito…
Kyūjō gave him a genjutsu scroll—a field Obito had never trained in—along with a meditation technique to enhance his spiritual energy.
Yes, Obito was currently terrible at ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. A "triple idiot."
But Kyūjō had a special plan for this one.
Step one: strengthen Obito's spiritual energy. Step two: help him naturally awaken a fully matured, three-tomoe Sharingan. Then finally… push him to unlock the Mangekyō.
Because Obito's Mangekyō held the key to Kamui—a space-time ninjutsu that defied logic.
With Kamui alone, Obito could live the good life without ever needing to master low-tier jutsu.
Chakra control? Nature transformation? Who cares!
Just summon the Gundam—activate Susanoo—and if that doesn't work? Kamui your way out or erase the enemy from existence.
Why struggle with D-rank techniques when you can have THAT?
And Kakashi?
Kyūjō had no intention of giving him a Sharingan this time around.
Instead, he had bigger plans: Sage Mode, and eventually... Breathing Techniques Version 4.0.
With these, even without Uchiha blood, Kakashi would rise to become a true "Godslayer"—a human strong enough to challenge the Ōtsutsuki.
That was the true destiny of the Hatake Clan!
— — —
Elsewhere—deep underground in the third level of the ANBU headquarters—Hatake Sakumo had just received a suspicious mission scroll.
He stared at the final line, frowning at the stamp of Koharu Utatane, one of the village elders.
An S-rank level mission like this… should've been approved by the Hokage himself.
But today, Hiruzen had left for the capital to meet the Fire Daimyō, and the mission was marked as urgent.
After a moment's hesitation, Sakumo made his decision.
He would take on the mission alone.
— — —
Far away in the Land of Earth, a Konoha team was under heavy pursuit by Iwagakure shinobi, despite having secured their objective.
To ensure their survival—and the mission's success—Sakumo knew only he had the speed and strength to act in time.
After leaving orders with his squad, he strapped on his blade and departed Konoha without delay.
Back at home, Kyūjō only learned about his brother's departure later that evening.
— — —
As soon as he heard, Kyūjō frowned.
How convenient.
The moment the Hokage leaves, a "must-be-Sakumo" mission appears?
It sounded almost identical to the event from the original timeline… the one that led to Sakumo's infamous suicide.
And Kyūjō wasn't buying it.
He didn't need long to piece it together.
This was all about the seat of the Fourth Hokage.
The conspirators wanted Sakumo gone, plain and simple.
Unfortunately for them… they didn't realize Sakumo had zero interest in becoming Hokage.
He barely had time for ANBU work, let alone dealing with village politics.
And Kyūjō's brother-in-law? Definitely not thrilled either.
Seriously, what was so great about being Hokage anyway?
This tiny village couldn't even withstand one swing of his blade.
If any of them were truly doing it for the sake of the village, he might've respected them.
But no. It was all selfish ambition.
Even Danzo—who'd practically brainwashed himself—was just another sore loser who never got over losing to Hiruzen.
There were so many better things in life than politics.
Like chasing strength, for example.
Kyūjō shook his head.
He'd never understand these people.
— — —
Was this all part of Hiruzen's plan to keep his hands clean?
Kyūjō couldn't rule it out.
But if they thought this scheme would work… they were sorely mistaken.
Because what Hiruzen knew about Hatake Kyūjō's strength was only the tip of the iceberg.
And if they really killed Hatake Sakumo…
Kyūjō would make sure none of them left this world alive.
— — —
Despite everything, Kyūjō didn't panic.
He simply turned around and walked home.
They had underestimated both him and his brother.
Did they really think the "White Fang of Konoha" was still the same man from the original timeline?
After years of Sage Mode training… and even a stint on Mount Myōboku…
Sakumo was no longer a mere shinobi.
He had become the Super-Powered White Fang of Konoha.
At this point in time, Kyūjō hadn't met a single enemy who could match his brother.
Maybe if Hashirama Senju were revived—then maybe.
But anyone else?
Not even Uchiha Madara could reach that level anymore.
And Iwagakure dared to challenge him?
No. The real pests weren't outside the village—they were within.
Weaklings who only knew how to poison from the shadows.
It was time to start cleaning house.
The elders had overstayed their welcome.
— — —
Three days later, a shocking report from the Land of Earth shook the entire shinobi world.
Hatake Sakumo—the legendary White Fang—had fought alone against ten thousand Iwagakure ninja!
For three days and three nights, he carved through them like butter, turning the battlefield into a graveyard.
Just as the Third Tsuchikage, Ōnoki, prepared to call for retreat…
The Third Raikage, A, appeared—with twenty thousand elite troops from Kumogakure—to take over the siege!
Even Ōnoki was stunned.
Since when had they formed an alliance with the Cloud?
Why was he never told!?
