Chapter 88: Remus Lupin Determination

Bella felt the blood running across her face and could hear her companions' screams coming from behind.

Her vision was becoming blurry, and she knew the end was near. The next bullet that hit her would be the one that killed her.

She had lost her wand after the first hit and now couldn't even do the one thing she had set out to do.

Her one working eye was still locked onto the figure of Harry, although she could barely see him anymore.

But just as she thought everything was over, she heard a familiar voice.

"Protego!"

Bellatrix felt someone grabbing her by the waist before she could fall from her broom and dragging her away.

She could now recognize the person holding her. "S-Sirius?…"

"Don't talk. I'm getting you out of here," Sirius said as he held his protective shield over them.

Bullets continued to hit it and make unpleasant noises as the metal made impact on the magical barrier.

"Expecto Patronum!" Tonks roared, creating a majestic horse made of white light that flew into the sky, chasing after the armed demons.

These were the kobalos, blue-winged demons that were typically used for scouting, given their inability in combat.

However, Harry had come up with the idea of giving them weapons. After all, the kobalos were highly intelligent, so it didn't take long before they learned how to use their new tools and even took a liking to them.

"It's working!" Tonks exclaimed with joy after seeing the blue demons flying away from her Patronus.

"Good job! Let me give you a hand." Moody stood at her side and used his own Patronus.

The charm had been designed to combat Dementors, but it was also effective against any creature with a very dark nature, such as demons or vampires.

It would not kill them, but it was enough to disturb their formation and disable them temporarily.

Harry saw this and frowned with displeasure. Right now, he wanted nothing more than to find whoever came up with such a disgusting spell and kill them most unpleasantly.

'How dare they create a spell to harm my children...'

The Order of the Phoenix was now here to ruin his fun.

'Still… there are only a few of them. Even if they can all use that spell, it will not be enough.' He thought for a moment, but then noticed that these people didn't seem interested in fighting him and only wanted to rescue the few surviving Death Eaters.

Harry stored his gun and took the wand out again, not willing to let his enemies escape so easily. Unfortunately, the number of flying demons he could use right now was very low, meaning he would need to do most of the work.

And he had to do it under the effect of the silencing curse that Voldemort had placed on him.

"Harry!" A very furious Remus Lupin stood in his way now.

His old professor landed with his broom on the roof and was now standing a few feet away from him.

Harry pointed at his mouth.

"I know you can't speak," Remus told him. "That is good. Then you can listen."

Harry shrugged and threw a silent bone-breaker at Remus.

"Ha!" The professor deflected it with ease. "Don't forget I was your Defense teacher!" he exclaimed before clenching his teeth.

"I defended you until the end… You know?" Remus told with a tone of defeat and disappointment. "When everyone was saying that you went dark, or insane… I defended you. I said… no way. There had to be an explanation. James's son would not do these things that everyone was saying… these atrocities."

Harry smiled. This time, he sent several cutting charms his way.

Remus deflected most of them, but one managed to cut into his right leg, making him groan.

Still, the man kept his composure and maintained his balance without fail.

"Now I see it!" Remus shouted. "Now that I can finally look into your eyes… I can see that… YOU ARE NOT HARRY!" He twisted his wand and sent a curse at him.

Harry noted the power of the spell and decided to block it with a physical wall, which then broke apart. It became evident that this man was no longer playing around and actually wanted to kill him.

"I won't let you continue to defile Harry's body… whoever you are," Remus told him. "Or whatever you are…" he said while staring into Harry's unnaturally red eyes.

Remus prepared another spell. "Those used to be Lily's eyes. I remember how happy Harry was when I told him that. He was such a good boy…" Sadness and fury reflected in Remus's eyes as he shot again.

The smile had gone from Harry's face. This was not going to be an easy opponent to kill without having access to his full repertoire of magic.

But then another devious idea came to his mind.

Darkness had already covered the entirety of the rooftop as the sun went away for the day.

This meant that he could now make full use of another one of his creatures.

"Take this!" Remus sent more curses and jinxes at him, completely unaware that Death was getting closer every second.

Harry deflected some and avoided others, but he allowed the last one to hit his leg.

It was a bone-breaker, and it managed to shatter his knee in several pieces.

He couldn't groan, but his face showed the pain he was in.

Remus sighed. "I'm sorry it has come to this…" With a quick motion, he used a disarming charm to take Harry's wand.

He then aimed at the now defenseless Harry. "If the boy's soul is still trapped in there, I hope he finds rest."

A spark of light formed at the end of Remus's wand as he prepared to give his opponent the final blow.

Had he been paying more attention to his surroundings, he might have noticed the strange shadows moving behind him.

But his mind was too perturbed for that, as he was about to end the life of his best friend's son.

Remus didn't realize until he felt something sharp piercing his chest and neck.

The man let out a choking sound as his mouth became filled with blood, and his eyes opened widely with shock and confusion.

Remus died without understanding what killed him.

Harry, on the other hand, was now beaming. He gave the shadow demon behind Remus a nod of approval.

However, his happiness didn't last long. Thanks to Remus Lupin's interference, all his enemies had managed to escape.

They even took the corpse of Voldemort with them, without him even realizing it happened.

'My leg hurts…' Harry thought.
