Chapter 2 - 2. Lady Margaret

The sound of an alarm clock rang glaringly and continuously followed by a boy falling of his bed.

"Ouch." He muttered, before drearily moving to turn of the alarm and return to his bed. But five minutes later, the alarm starting blaring again, this time even louder and the bed started vibrating intensely forcing him out of his slumber.

"I got it! Got it! I'm awake now! Damn it!" The boy leapt off his vibrating bed landing in the floor with his back.

"Arggh!" But looking at his clock, he immediately spun back to his feet.

"Arggh! Don't tell me I overslept again!" He scrambled to his feet and rushed into his bathroom.

He hastily took his bath, prepared and rushed out of his room with a burger in his mouth.

The day was just beginning to give her first light but as a studying bondservant, he couldn't afford to lazy in bed.

He immediately rushed to the main female housings.

But going by the how the traffic was nonexistent, it looked like he arrived too early.

He picked a spot in front of the hostel, sitting and waiting.

A few minutes later, at exactly 06:00am, a beep rang from his phone and he instantly jerked up from the wall and looked to the door. The door opened at the same time and a young girl in her late teens stepped out.

She had wavy black hair that fell to the small of her back. Her pale face that was touched with a hint of pink was complemented by her blue eyes and her red lips. Just from her face alone, she was an incomparable beauty, the mole below her left eye only adding to her charm. She exuded elegance with every step as she walked out of the hostels with graceful poise.

Her blue eyes searched around looking for someone until her eyes fell on the boy standing by the wall, then they softened just a little bit.

"Abel," a beautiful voice rang from her, calm like a flowing river. It might have sounded cold to anyone else, but to Abel, it was a warm and soothing sound.

"Yes Mistress," He said looking towards her, already knowing what she wanted to say.

"I already told you to stop coming over to wait on me in the morning. I don't need you to wait on me for just the short 15 minutes walk to school." She said as she began moving, leading the way to school while Abel fell to a pace behind her.

Abel, on hearing her made a difficult expression.

"Lady Margaret, I know you've said that, but this is my job. Besides, it doesn't cost me anything but a little less sleep to escort you to your class halls." He said, trying to reach for her bag but she ducked it away, holding her bag to herself.

Seeing that, Abel made a strange expression. Margaret only looked at him once before looking ahead.

"I don't want you losing that little sleep. Besides, you're already doing too much, and your sleep is impeded handling both my matters and yours. The least you deserve is proper rest." She said. And then continued after a short break. "Also, you know we're alone now. Don't call me Lady anymore. It's too bothersome."

Abel kept quiet for a moment and Margaret looked at him.

"Okay, Maggie." Abel could only say, scratching his head, awkwardly.

If others heard him calling her by that name, he'd probably be beheaded before he knew what happened so he liked to be careful with the use of it.

Margaret was the only child of the Klayan household's Patriarch. One of the most powerful men in the continent.

Abel was raised in an orphanage where he was adopted by the Klayan Household.

When he was ten, he was selected as a candidate for a bondservant — one of the best positions an orphan in the Klayan household could possibly get.

Because of his weak talent that was assessed days prior, he wasn't supposed to be part of the selection. He only made it because the orphanage guardian took pity on him, considering his amazing intellect that surpassed the other candidates.

But as a consequence he was marked as a bad choice to make.

But to everyone's surprise, when the Heir of the clan, Lady Margaret, came to select her bondservant she went all the way to the back to pick him. Even when her parents and teachers persuaded her otherwise, she insisted. And since this was a tradition of the clan, they couldn't force her otherwise.

Since that day, years ago, they were stuck together as mistress and servant.

But even more than that, they became each other's only and best friends.

Eventually, they reached Margaret's class halls.

"Take care Abel, " she said in her usual cold voice before turning to leave.

But Abel called back. "Good luck on your awakening ceremony."

She turned to him, a glint of sadness flashing through her eyes.

"Are you still adamant on not wanting to awaken?" She asked.

But Abel just shook his head."I've already decided, Lady Margaret."

Margaret looked to want to persuade him, but she restrained herself.

"Okay," she said. She had tried to convince him already. Since he didn't want to change his mind, there was nothing she could do about it.

"Good luck to you too then" She said, going into her class. Her face looked cold as ever but there was a hint of helplessness in her eyes.

Abel looked at her back and sighed. Things would likely get complicated with Margaret after the awakening today, but he'll just have to see how it goes.

As he moved towards his class his face morphed into a hardened frown. He knew what was coming for him today, but he just had to persevere through it.
