"I'm sorry, Sylceris," Aegis said. "I tricked you."
Sylceris was rigid in her arms, still dancing because Aegis was leading and her body was following out of instinct, but her dark eyes were burning.
Her jaw was clenched so tight Aegis could see the muscles jumping in her cheeks.
"You tricked me," Sylceris repeated.
"I did."
"Everything. The sparring, the conversations, the—" Her voice caught. "All of it. You were playing me."
"Yes."
"You were never on our side."
"No."
Sylceris tried to pull away. Aegis held her waist, kept them moving, kept the waltz going. Around them, other couples danced, oblivious, the orchestra swelling through the hall.
"Let go of me," Sylceris hissed.
