The sun warmed the Valley as clouds drifted lazily overhead. Birds sang. Farmers tilled. Everything looked… normal.
Too normal.
Raion trotted down the temple steps, tail swaying, arms behind his head. "So, this is what a day off looks like?"
"Nope," Monkey called from the courtyard, twirling his staff. "Today's patrol duty."
"Protecting dumplings and ducklings?" Raion asked.
"More like stopping bandits from ruining supply routes," Mantis said as he landed beside them. "We've had reports near the eastern road."
Raion's grin widened. "And I get to tag along?"
Monkey smirked. "Think of it as your field test."
Raion cracked his knuckles. "Test accepted."

🛤️ Eastern Road – A Few Hours Later
The path twisted through thick bamboo groves, the sun filtering in stripes across the ground.
"So, Raion," Monkey asked, hopping along tree branches, "you're fast, quiet, and somehow never lose balance. What's your secret?"
"Practice," Raion replied with a smirk. "And solid ankles."
Mantis narrowed his eyes. "And that healing thing?"
Raion shrugged. "Good genes."
They shared a look.
"Okay, mysterious," Monkey muttered. "You're lucky you're fun."
Suddenly, the sound of a crash echoed through the trees.
All three froze.
"Up ahead," Mantis said.
They sprinted.

They emerged into a clearing where an overturned cart lay shattered on the road, fruit rolling down the hill. A pig merchant and his ox driver cowered behind the wreckage.
Four masked bandits — two boars, a wolf, and a tall jackal — surrounded them, armed with spears and clubs.
"We don't want trouble!" the pig yelled. "Take the gold, just leave us be!"
"Trouble's already here," Monkey said, landing beside them with a smile. "Hi!"
Raion stepped out from the tree line, cracking his neck. "Wow. You guys really went for the classic 'rob the weak in daylight' routine. Original."
"Who the hell are you supposed to be?" the wolf snarled.
Raion tilted his head. "The one giving you a chance to leave."
"Wrong answer!" The jackal charged with a roar, swinging a heavy club.
Monkey flipped over him, landing a solid kick to his spine.
Mantis zipped between the boars, disarming one and dropping low into a stance.
Raion didn't move. His eyes followed the wolf — the largest of the bunch — who ran straight at him.
He exhaled, lowered his stance, and placed a paw against the earth.

Footing Locked – Stone-Footed Stability
Pulse Wave Ready…
The wolf raised his blade — and Raion stomped.
A tremor exploded outward, cracking the road. The wolf flew backward into a tree with a stunned grunt.
One boar panicked and charged Raion blindly. Raion slid to the side, ducked, and swept the boar's legs out from under him in a clean spin.
The other bandits regrouped — angry now. The jackal howled, eyes wide. "You wanna play like monsters?! Then we'll tear you apart!"
The remaining three rushed Raion at once.
His smile faded.
Poise became stillness.

Conditions Met: Instinct Surge + Adrenaline + Threat Level > 3
Confirm: Transform?
Raion inhaled. Deep. Calm.
"Yes."

🐾 Transformation
The bandits lunged.
But what they hit wasn't the same panther.
With a boom, the earth erupted behind Raion. Dust exploded. Out of it walked a massive black shape—quad-pawed, low, powerful.
A true panther, larger than a horse, eyes burning with focused intensity. His shoulders rolled with unnatural strength. His breathing echoed like thunder.
Poised. Silent.
Still him.
Mantis froze. "That's… not normal."
Monkey gawked. "He just—he just became an animal!"
"No," Mantis whispered. "He chose to."
The jackal tried to retreat. "W-We didn't sign up for this!"
Too late.
Raion leapt forward.
A single swipe shattered the jackal's weapon and sent him flying. The remaining two bandits tried to flee, but the ground beneath them cracked open — vines and stone erupted upward, tripping them with brutal force.
Raion stood above them all, unmoving, breath low and rhythmic.

The pig merchant peeked up from behind the cart. "...Are we safe?"
Raion padded forward, shrinking mid-step as he shifted back into his normal martial artist form — now walking upright again.
He offered the pig a hand. "You are now."

🏞️ Return Trip – Sunset
The three warriors walked the forest path in silence. Finally, Monkey said, "So… that whole beast mode thing…"
Raion glanced over. "Too much?"
"No," Monkey said slowly. "Kinda awesome."
Mantis nodded. "And you stayed in control. You didn't even scratch them too hard."
"Just enough to stop the fight," Raion said. "No point in breaking bones when you can break confidence."
Monkey looked impressed. "You really are something else."
Raion chuckled. "Takes one to know one."

🍵 That Night – Palace Balcony
Po caught Raion alone, looking out over the darkening valley.
"So," Po said, "I heard you went full jungle king today."
Raion gave a soft smile. "It wasn't rage. It was instinct. I stayed calm."
Po nodded. "You're not like anyone I've ever met."
Raion's eyes reflected the moonlight. "Good. I didn't come here to blend in."

The Valley was quiet again.
But peace had a new protector.
