The next day, the castle woke up in an uproar.
The assailant that attacked the student had been discovered. The identity itself shocked the student body. A lot of girls were screaming about it being false, but the proofs submitted clearly showed them who was the culprit. And the culprit also gained the rightful punishment for what he had done.
Because just like in cannon, Lockheart got hit with a memory charm spell that backfired from Ron's broken wand. The two professors witnessed it happen just as they reached the three students and immediately realised the dangers of a broken wand.
Plus the newspapers flowed into the castle by the owls contained an entirely different shocking news.
"LOCKHEART THE MEMORY CHARM MANIAC; LOCKHARTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS STOLEN FROM OTHER HEROESS WHOSE LIVES WERE DESTROYED"
It was almost like it was timed together. Most of the students speculated it was the curse of Hogwarts striking once again, punishing yet another defence against dark arts teacher who dared to take on that post.
Plus the Ministry reported that they were investigating certain discrepancies in Lockheart's stories of his adventures. So a secret task force headed by Amelia Bones had been investigating all the locations written in Lockhart's books where he had claimed to have saved the lives of many individuals from dangerous monsters.
It did not take long for them to find evidence that he was lying and stealing from the real heroes and leaving the real heroes in comatose state after wiping out their memories.
Lockheart's fans in Hogwarts did not believe it at first, but with the way he was acting all throughout the year along with how he had botched Harry's hand in the quidditch field had resulted in a lot of people doubting the claims of what he had done in the books. The only thing that maintained the confidence people had in him was the Order of Merlin he had received from the ministry.
The kids at school never knew how incompetent the ministry can be so they believed that a person who received one of the highest merits in the wizarding world would at the least be competent and truthful.
Auden knew that this will be the beginning of the distrust people will have on the ministry. And he was planning on helping Amelia on taking over the entire ministry and kicking out Cornelius, its current minister.
Auden feels no regret in doing so since every decision made by Cornelius in the original timeline had led to the death of countless individuals who were innocent. Plus, he had no fear in changing them as the fate he cannot break only includes the ones described in prophesies. As long as he does not try to kill Harry, Neville or Tom. He can make changes to the timeline as the timeline will adjust itself to make the prophecy happen.
The only thing he needs to do is not to try to change it by too much that he loses control of the things that are supposed to happen. Like proof of Hagrid's innocence and Dobby's freedom which were supposed to happen if the diary had been left alone. But because he changed it, he has to make sure it happens by his own hand.
"Looks like you were right Auden. It was just like how you explained that day" Luna muttered as she read her father's newspaper.
"Hmm, well it would have come out sooner or later. The curse on the castle just accelerated it" Auden replied as was reading a history book on magic.
Even though he had the ability to record everything using his system along with the ability to memorise using the Diadem. He feels relaxed when he was reading interesting information.
One thing he never found believable was the fact that people found magical history as boring. Even in many fanfictions he had read about how protagonists had considered them as something to be learned only for the exams.
'This thing contains the interesting information about the wizarding world. I can understand those who had been born in the wizarding world finding it as normal. But what about the muggle born wizards. Don't they find it interesting' Auden thought as he read another true history story about a guy who had five wives.
Each of the wives were saved by him when they were accused of witchcraft by their husbands who were just finding reasons to get rid of them. The wizard managed to save all of them and earned their loyalty.
Though there were rumours about those husbands of those wives dying gruesome deaths to unexplained diseases. But they were written as an afterthought at the end of the book.
As he began going towards the next story, he noticed that Luna had a few dark circles near her eyes.
"Luna, are you getting enough sleep. Is there something happening in your dormitory" Auden asked a bit worried about her condition. Even though he had deterred many from bullying her using the enchanted shoes, there was still a chance of it continuing as it won't stop them from pursuing creative methods.
"Oh, don't worry about it, I have been a bit busy studying a few interesting subjects being taught to me by someone" Luna replied with a grin.
"Is it someone I know?" Auden asked a bit curious as Luna rarely makes an expression like this. It implies that she was hiding something she considered as fun.
And it ranges from deathly bees to beautiful butterflies. Depending on the luck of the person she shows it to.
"That's a secret" She replied, increasing Auden's curiosity. But he decided not to pry more as Luna will reveal it to him in her own time.
They were currently sitting near the lake basking on the calm climate. Professors had given them the entire day off due to what had happened concerning Lockheart.
Auden can't say whether he is unlucky that he lost his memories or lucky that he escaped from the consequences of his actions due to losing his memory. Though he will be confined to ST Mungo's for the rest of his life.
Suddenly Auden heard someone moving towards him.
"Auden can we talk for a moment" Hermionie Granger had appeared to ask him a few questions.
