Chapter 4 - chapter: 4 The Prison Doors Slowly Begin To Open

Prison

Frank's silence for days had surprised Lukas deeply. Frank, who used to assign Lukas tasks every morning, was now lying on his bed, staring at a photograph, lost in thought.

Everyone was keeping to themselves.

Lukas had used up all the toilet paper writing on it, page by page.

He asked the guard for more.

Frank, so lost in that photo, hadn't noticed what Lukas had been doing. But when Lukas asked the guard for more paper, something clicked.

Though Lukas didn't know exactly what he would write, around 2 a.m., he quietly got up and went to the restroom.

Frank secretly followed him.

Lukas pulled a pen from his shirt and started writing.

Frank frowned.

"What's this now?" he muttered.

Lukas read aloud as he wrote:

"Must we always judge people by their life conditions?

Can you feel the ones who love you, even without knowing it?

Or am I such a nothing that you won't even count me?"

Frank couldn't take it anymore and stormed in.

"Hey! What the hell are you writing at this hour?"

Lukas snapped, "None of your business! Are you following me?"

Frank barked, "I'm the boss here — don't forget that!"

He ripped the paper from Lukas's hands and threw it in the trash.

That was it for Lukas.

Frank had just destroyed the one thing keeping him sane. And coming from the one he hated most? Unforgivable.

Lukas, without thinking, jammed the pen into Frank's eye.

Frank screamed in agony but couldn't stop him.

Everyone woke up. They had never seen Lukas like this.

For the first time, they feared him — because no one had ever dared defy Frank before.

From that moment, the inmates sided with Lukas.

Frank? His eye was permanently damaged.

Frank's hatred for Lukas now burned deeper than ever.

He couldn't let this go.

Lukas was responsible for his lost eye.

But what was he going to do about it?

Later, while Lukas was writing again on a new piece of paper, a man approached him.

"Hey, bro. Need anything?"

Lukas was shocked — no one had ever spoken to him so respectfully.

"Bro?" Lukas asked.

"Yeah. From now on, you're our big brother."

Frank, watching this, furiously threw the man to the ground.

"Leave him alone!" Lukas shouted. "Your issue's with me."

Frank grabbed Lukas's filthy shirt.

"You! From now on, you're my biggest problem. I'm going to kill you myself, you filthy rat!"

He pulled out a knife…

Just then, the guard and another man entered.

"Hey! Break it up! Hand over the knife," the guard shouted.

Frank hesitated. "Sorry… Found it in the toilet."

The guard nodded, then gestured. "This is your new cellmate — Harry. Make room."

After the guard left, Harry approached Lukas.

"Hey, I'm Harry. You must be Lukas, right?"

Lukas hadn't even said his name yet.

Frank barked, "Who the hell are you? How do you know his name?"

Harry, ignoring him: "I wasn't talking to you."

Frank: "I run this place—"

Harry: "No. You don't."

Harry seemed to know who was who.

Lukas asked: "How do you know my name?"

Harry replied: "You're the guy who stole bread and ended up here, right? I saw you on the news. You're kind of famous now."

Lukas: "How? Who told you?"

Wooden Cabin

Jake: "We need to get Dad out of prison."

Emma: "How?"

Jake: "He'll need to help too."

Alex: "I have a plan."

Jake: "What is it?"

Alex: "I need to talk to him first."

They were planning to break Lukas out — they believed he was in danger.

Lukas was lying on his bed when a guard came.

"Lukas, someone's here to see you."

Lukas was surprised — no one had visited in a month.

Frank sneered: "Who would come to see that loser?"

As Lukas entered the visitor's room, he saw someone with their back turned.

It was Alex, hiding his face so Lukas wouldn't refuse to meet.

"Hey, who are you? Look at me!" Lukas demanded.

Alex turned. "It's me, buddy."

Lukas was filled with anger. "What the hell are you doing here?"

Alex interrupted, "Your son is alive."

Lukas staggered. "What? My son?"

Alex caught him. "Not now. You're in danger. You need to get out."

Lukas: "Frank?"

Alex: "Forget him. You need to escape."

The guard interrupted:

"Time's up."

Alex pleaded: "Please, just two more minutes."

The guard gave a slight nod.

Alex: "You need to get yourself sent to the hospital."

Lukas: "That's easy. See you in two hours."

He shouted to the guard:

"We're done here. Take me back."

Back in the cell, Lukas looked for Frank.

Harry came over: "Frank took some of your papers and went to the bathroom."

Lukas rushed to the bathroom, but the door was locked.

He tried prying it open with a knife but failed.

He shouted:

"Open the door, Frank!"

Silence.

He kicked the door. Harry came again.

Harry: "Were those papers that valuable?"

Lukas: "Mind your own business."

Suddenly, Frank's voice echoed, reading Lukas's words aloud.

Frank laughed maniacally.

Lukas, furious, stabbed the knife into the center of the door, creating a hole.

Seeing this rage, Frank got scared and opened the door.

Lukas stormed in, knife in hand, pressing it to Frank's neck.

Frank: "Wait! If you—"

Lukas: "If I what?"

Just as he was about to cut him, Alex's voice echoed in his mind:

You might be in danger.

Don't kill him — you'll be in here for life.

Instead, Lukas forced the knife into his own leg.

The inmates were shocked — they thought he'd gone mad.

Frank dropped the knife.

Harry called the guard:

"Call an ambulance!"

Guard: "Who did this?"

Harry: "Frank did!"

Frank: "He's lying!"

Half-conscious, Lukas whispered:

"No… I stabbed myself."

Frank was stunned.

The police took Lukas to the hospital.

They informed Emma.

Hospital

Lukas had stabbed himself in the leg — anywhere else might have been fatal.

After a small operation, he was moved to a regular room.

Alex, in disguise, posed as a doctor.

He got directions from the receptionist easily.

Two police officers stood at Lukas's door.

Emma had to distract them.

She approached, pretending to mop the floor.

"Excuse me, can I get you to move? I… uh…"

The officers were confused.

Emma chickened out and left.

Alex was frustrated — he'd have to go in alone.

He approached the room.

"Where are you going?" one officer asked.

"I'm the doctor. Need to check vitals."

They didn't believe him.

He raised his voice, acting offended.

"I am the doctor! Let me do my job!"

It worked. They let him in.

"Lukas?" he whispered.

"Alex?!" Lukas shouted.

"Quiet!" Alex said.

A guard peeked in. "Sorry, doctor."

Alex nodded.

Lukas: "How did it go?"

Alex: "You're crazy."

Alex pulled out pillows and blankets.

"What's all this?"

"Shh. Just trust me."

He texted Emma: "Go to Plan B."

Emma, now in disguise, chatted with the guards.

She pretended to faint.

While they helped her, Alex dressed Lukas as a doctor.

They swapped him with the pillows under the blanket.

They escaped.

Emma stood up quickly.

"Thanks, I'm okay now."

The guards were shocked.

One checked the room.

Lukas appeared to still be in bed.

They told Emma to leave.

Outside, Jake greeted them.

It was the first time Lukas saw his son after learning he was alive.

He didn't blame him. He loved him.

"Son…"

Emma and Alex were crying.

Jake: "Dad, I didn't mean to hurt you. We had to get you out. You're in danger."

Lukas: "Let me guess — Frank."

Jake: "Who?"

Lukas: "Forget it. Just a guy."

Emma perked up.

"Big guy? Fat? Tall?"

Lukas: "Yeah, how'd you know?"

They all said together:

"Could it be him?"
