Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

As soon as Gu Xiangyun left, Su Jin finally let out a breath of relief.

Everyone was gone.

No one cared whether she lived or died.

The hotel was still a long way from the Su family estate.

She had no money, no ride—only the heels on her feet and a heart full of exhaustion.

Step by step, she walked slowly down the dimly lit road.

The heels bit into her feet with every movement. The journey felt endless.

Su Jin looked ahead at the long stretch of pavement and gave a helpless smile.

If she kept walking like this, her feet would be ruined by morning.

Suddenly—

The sharp glare of headlights lit up behind her.

Startled, Su Jin instinctively stepped aside, pressing close to the edge of the road.

A sleek, limited-edition Bugatti glided to a stop in front of her.

The tinted window rolled down with a soft hum, revealing a face as cold and striking as a sculpture.

Fu Siyan.

His deep voice drifted out, calm and without a trace of emotion.

"Get in."

Su Jin stared at him, stunned.

For a moment, she couldn't move.

She looked at his side profile—sharp, elegant, indifferent—and felt her heart skip a beat.

"…Thank you," she whispered.

She carefully opened the door and slid into the passenger seat, sitting quietly and trying not to disturb the silence between them.

Her heart pounded uncontrollably, but she kept her gaze forward, too afraid to look directly at him again.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Fu Siyan's hand resting lightly on the steering wheel—steady, powerful, commanding.

Clean and slender, his hands carried the quiet strength inherent to men.

They made her feel... safe.

The car gave a slight jolt, and Su Jin's hand accidentally brushed against his.

That faint warmth through skin-to-skin contact nearly made her cry.

It felt so surreal—

He was alive.

The car pulled back onto the road.

Inside the vehicle, the tension was quiet but thick, like the air before a storm.

From the hotel to the Su family home was no more than a 30-minute drive.

But for Su Jin, it felt like a lifetime.

Memories from her previous life with Fu Siyan flashed across her mind like a silent film—

his kindness,

his quiet gentleness,

his unwavering love...

"Miss Su, we've arrived."

His voice pulled her back to the present.

Su Jin blinked out of her daze. She turned to Fu Siyan and whispered, "Thank you," then gently pushed the door open and stepped out.

The moment her heels touched the ground, the car sped off into the night.

Su Jin stood still, watching the direction the car disappeared into.

Only after a long pause did she finally turn and step through the gates of the Su family home.

Study.

Documents were scattered all over the room.

Su Mingyuan's expression was dark as he slammed a file onto the desk and scolded his assistant.

"What's going on? Are the people in the design department all brainless? How can the project be rejected three times in a single month?"

The assistant looked visibly nervous and answered in a low voice,

"The client's requirements are extremely demanding. We just… haven't been able to meet their expectations."

Su Mingyuan pointed sharply at the blueprints on the table, his voice cold and deliberate.

"If you can't even meet this level of requirement, what's the point of keeping you on the payroll?"

The assistant hesitated for a moment. Then, braving Su Mingyuan's fury, he cautiously suggested,

"Perhaps we could ask the Third Miss for help. She was involved in the earlier designs—the ones the client approved. Her ideas are fresh, clean, and elegant. The client really liked her work."

Su Mingyuan rubbed his temples in frustration. After a long pause, he finally spoke.

"Fine. Invite her to the study."

He sounded reluctant, but there was no denying the weight behind his decision.

Just as the assistant turned to leave, Su Mingyuan added,

"Also… ask Aunt Zhang to prepare that dessert she likes."

The assistant nodded quickly, opened the door, and stepped out.

After returning home, Su Jin took a shower and changed into clean clothes.

She ate a few slices of bread to fill her stomach. Just as she was about to lie down and rest, a knock sounded at her door.

When she opened it, Su Mingyuan's assistant was standing outside.

"Third Miss, the Chairman would like to see you in the study."

In her previous life, Su Jin had shown talent in design. To earn some living expenses, she had submitted a few drafts. Su Mingyuan eventually discovered her talent and had exploited it for his own gain ever since.

Now that she had a second chance—would she let herself be used again?

Never.

Su Jin remained calm, but there was a cold gleam in her eyes.

"Tell him I'll be there shortly," she said.

After the assistant left, Su Jin made her way to the study.

When she opened the door, she saw a Black Forest cake and a cup of milk tea waiting on the table—her favorite.

Su Mingyuan actually thought he could buy her off with a piece of cake.

How laughable.
