Carl walked out of arrivals, looking left and right for a familiar face, but couldn't see one. The airport was crowded, for a city that only linked a few small towns together, there were more people than he expected. Just as he reached into his pocket to take out the phone his father had given him, a light and cheerful voice called out to him.
"Carl, sweetie."
A stylish man wearing a flowery blue shirt and red pants with large black shades that covered half of his face, was running towards him with a speed someone his age shouldn't have been able to muster. He stood out like a sore thumb in the crowd that mostly wore neutral colors with plain patterns.
He stopped in front of him without a hint of sweat on his face and spread his arms wide open. "You're even taller than you were before. Soon enough, I'll have to be looking up to you."
"Gran–Grandpa?" Carl greeted uncertainly as he stepped a little closer to the man.
"My darling," he said as he wrapped him in a tight hug.
