Ryan didn't want to admit it, but he was expecting what package he would be getting today. He had checked his phone multiple times since morning. Carl had sent a good night text the night before and a good morning text a few hours ago.
He had read them but didn't reply, though his fingers had hovered over the keyboard more than once. The continued exchange with Carl was something he couldn't control. Finally, he locked his phone inside his drawer and forced himself to focus on work.
Fridays were usually quite light for him. He didn't have to help teach any class or go to the lab. Normally, he spent them going over papers with Professor Ken, but today was different.
The professor had gone for a health check-up at his son's insistence, so Ryan's schedule was unexpectedly open. He tried to read a book, but his mind kept drifting till he shut it and just placed his head on the table.
