ROMAN
The doctor pulled me into the hallway, closing the door to Vanessa's room with a quiet click. My heart hammered in my chest as I looked between him, Liam, and our son. Fabian's eyes were wide with worry, clutching his stuffed wolf to his chest.
"What's happening to Mom?" he asked in a small voice.
The doctor's expression was grave as he guided us further down the corridor, away from Vanessa's room. "Mr. Vance, I need to speak with you privately about your mate's condition."
Liam stepped forward. "I'll stay with Fabian."
I nodded gratefully, crouching down to my son's level. "Hey, buddy. I'm going to talk with the doctor for a minute, and then we'll figure everything out. Okay?"
Fabian nodded uncertainly. "Is Mom going to remember you again?"
The question hit me like a physical blow. I forced a reassuring smile. "We're going to do everything we can." I ruffled his hair, then followed the doctor to a small consultation room.
