Julian's stunned expression hardened as he turned to Isabelle. "Is this true?" The raw power in his Alpha command made everyone in the room flinch.
Isabelle's face crumpled under the weight of the command, her resistance useless against his power. "Yes," she choked out, tears streaming down her face. "But it wasn't like they're saying!"
I watched her dispassionately, my arms crossed over my chest. After five years of being treated like garbage, I felt nothing but cold satisfaction seeing the truth finally emerge.
"Then what was it like?" Julian demanded, his voice dropping to a dangerous growl.
Isabelle's eyes darted to her mother, desperation evident. Natalie gave her daughter an imperceptible nod.
"I-I just wanted to help Mom," Isabelle stammered. "She was so sad all the time after you two were separated. She cried every night."
I nearly scoffed aloud. Natalie, crying? The woman was incapable of genuine emotion unless it served her purposes.
