Lana didn't wait for Nicholas' response. Whether he wanted her there or not, she was going. She had to get out of that house—away from Alexander, away from everything that was making her feel like she couldn't breathe.
Thankfully, Nicholas didn't protest. In fact, he sounded relieved, his tone more welcoming than she expected. Thrilled, even. He immediately offered to pick her up, Lana refusing the moment she was out of Alexander's sight and asked for his address instead.
Thirty-seven minutes later, her car pulled up to his house. As if on cue, the gates opened with a low hum, revealing the driveway beyond.
She parked her car. Then wiped her face. Then fixed her dress.
And then she saw him, standing in the doorway filled with composure like he'd been waiting for her all night.
Lana didn't hesitate. Not even for a second.
