Chapter 1 - Chapter 001

It's been exhausting staying at the hospital for morethan a month. The doctor had assured her that she was fine and could go home, but Kaira wasn't ready to leave yet. She still hadn't come to terms with losing the baby she had carried for nine months.

Strangely enough, after the first few days, her husband never showed up, until yesterday. And even then, he barely stayed an hour before leaving.

Their marriage had been perfect, despite her father's initial disapproval.

For the past three years, their marriage had been filled with love and happiness. Not once had she felt neglected.

But everything changed after she gave birth, and lost the baby. She felt neglected by her husband, and her family never once reached out to her. It's been three years, no one ever called.

The loss shattered her, yet her husband had been absent ever since. The day it happened, he left, and a few days, he never returned. All she got were occasional video calls and brief phone conversations.

This was the time she needed him the most, yet he continued to distance himself. Whenever she tried to talk to him, he seemed disinterested, always claiming to be busy.

Kiara had once asked if it was because of the baby's death, but his response had been evasive. She could sense the guilt in his voice, he couldn't face her because he wasn't there when she needed him most.

Deep down, he blamed himself for what happened. She had called him that day, but he hadn't been there. And now, the weight of his absence was pulling them further apart.

She had tried to make him understand that their loss had nothing to do with him, that they simply weren't destined to have a child yet, but they could always try again. Unbeknownst to her, she was wrong.

But as time passed, his calls became less frequent until, eventually, they stopped altogether. She couldn't help but wonder, was this the end of their marriage?

"Where's my maid? I haven't seen her for a while." Kiara asked the nurse who had been attending to her.

"I saw her heading upstairs, but I'm not sure where she went. Do you want me to get her for you?"

Kiara nodded absentmindedly, her gaze shifting toward the window. But before the nurse could leave, she changed her mind.

"Don't worry, I'll walk around." She said, slowly pushing herself up from the bed.

Unlike before, when she had been too weak to do anything, she could now move on her own. She slipped on her shoes and made her way out of the room, closing the door behind her.

As she ascended the stairs, she exchanged pleasantries with some doctors passing by. A few of them were with her after she lost the baby, they tried to console her.

"Where are you headed? Where's your help?" Her doctor stopped her with a questioning look, glanced around the precinct and back at her.

"I'm feeling much better, Doc. I'm thinking of getting discharged today so I can go home and be with my husband."

A knowing grin spread across the doctor's face.

"That would be better than staying here. You two could get intimate tonight and maybe conceive again." She whispered, making Kiara giggle.

"That's exactly why I want to go home. He's already unhappy about losing the baby and keeps blaming himself."

"Alright then! I'll start the paperwork for your discharge." The doctor said with a nod.

Kiara thanked her and continued on her way. She wasn't sure where to find her maid, so she decided to check behind the stairwell. Looking around the quiet hallway. She was about to turn back when something caught her eye.

A familiar figure stood in the distance.

Her heart skipped a beat.

"Is that my husband?" She mumbled, squinting to get a view.

He hadn't mentioned coming to the hospital, so why would he be here? She thought inwardly.

Just as she was about to step forward, she noticed something, or rather, someone with him.

A woman.

Instinctively, she ducked behind the door, peeking out just enough to get a better look.

"Who is she?" She whispered, her chest tightening as she watched them.

Her fingers clenched at the doorframe.

Something felt terribly wrong.

She wasn't sure who he was with, which made her curiosity pique, and she had to move closer to listen to their conversation.

She left the spot where she had been standing, making her way to the other side of the building. Once she was close, she paid attention to the conversation.

It was indeed her husband, he was the one she had mistaken for someone else. She had yet to see the lady he was with and could barely hear their conversation.

As people passed by, she feigned to be just standing there, waiting for them to start talking louder.

"Come on, I'm not a fool. I know this is you being caring, you still care about her. I can't continue being a maid for her." The voice came.

Kira recognized the voice, but she wasn't sure if it was who she thought it was. It was unclear to her why her husband was with the person she suspected to be her maid.

"No one is trying to make you the maid forever. I just need to get what I want from her."

What are they talking about? Is that even my maid? The voice sounds familiar to hers. But let's assume she's the one, why is she with my husband? Her boss?

"Anderson, I'm not going to continue being her maid. If you had divorced her before now, we wouldn't have gone this far, fighting."

"Is that why you killed the baby?" He questioned, and there was a moment of silence. "I apologized, what more do you want me to do?" He added, trying to get closer to her, but she moved away.

Kiara's eyes widened, she almost staggered, but had to keep her calm.

"What baby? I told you I had nothing to do with her baby. Stop pointing fingers at the wrong person."

My baby? What is he talking about? No way, she didn't kill him. She's the one behind it, and he's not doing anything?

Fresh tears sprinkle down her cheeks.

I can't believe she used my child. What's her relationship with him that he has to apologize for?

She heard footsteps approaching and hid well until her maid walked past her, then quietly he followed. She was shattered, the true love she had once experienced had been ruined in the blink of an eye.

Even after college, she waited three years before she could marry him, and now this was all she could get for growing with him?
