Reincarnated as a Fisherman and a Dad Chapter 132
The living room was spacious, with the dining area to the left.
As they continued walking, Maya noticed the hallway stretching along the longer side of the L-shaped layout. This section of the house held three rooms: one master bedroom and two regular bedrooms, perfect for the twins.
The master bedroom was located at the farthest end for privacy, with its own attached bathroom. The second bathroom was located in the shared hallway, for the kids to use once they grew older or for unexpected guests.
At the center of the house was the kitchen, practical and open. It had built-in cabinets, still empty, and an open space that allowed Maya to cook while watching the kids in the living area. It connected naturally with the dining area without barriers.
The more they explored, the more Maya felt her heart swell. Every corner of the house reflected their hard work, dreams, and future. Her fingers trembled lightly as she traced the smooth painted wall.
"It's… perfect," she whispered once more, overwhelmed with emotion.
They had dreamt of having a house for years. Back when they got married, they basically had nothing. Karlos chopped bamboo and built a kubo with his own hands.
Karlos had been scared of the future, but he promised Maya that he would do his best to make her happy no matter the cost. One of his promises was that he would give her a nice house to live in, and now that promise stood around them, solid and real.
Even Karlos was emotional... He smiled and promised himself that he would drink some nice alcohol later to celebrate.
He couldn't believe that he had fulfilled that dream today. The couple inspected the house and were satisfied. The house was empty, which was understandable. They would buy appliances and other things to make the place lively. They exchanged smiles, already imagining where everything would go.
They went to the construction company east of the town and paid the remaining balance. The house cost 2.2 million pesos. It was expensive, but the couple knew it was worth it.
They then rented a sidecar tricycle to take them back to the villa.
By the way, there were two types of tricycles in their town. The first was a tricycle powered by a motorcycle. Its proper term was a sidecar with a roof, but people usually called it a tricycle out of habit.
The second was a tricycle powered by a bicycle, human-powered. It was slower, and the driver needed to spend more energy to travel. It was only good for short distances within neighborhoods.
The tricycle the couple rented was powered by a motorcycle. Once they reached the villa, they paid the driver fifty pesos for the ride.
They didn't bother ringing the doorbell and simply opened the gate, as it wasn't locked.
The kids weren't in the annex. They were probably in the living room or dining room, getting spoiled by the maids.
After Claire left a few months ago, the situation in the villa became much better. Maya was no longer worried and let the kids enjoy and explore the villa. Even the maids were very good to the twins, treating them kindly.
When they entered through the front door, they saw the twins sucking milk from their bottles. Mrs. Wanda was watching them drink with gusto.
"You guys are back," she said, smiling warmly at them.
"The kids didn't bother you, right?" Maya asked, brushing the twins' hair as they hugged her. They were still sucking their milk bottles, refusing to let go.
"The kids are so adorable. They didn't bother me at all," Mrs. Wanda said, shaking her head.
"So how was it?" Mrs. Wanda asked about the house.
"The house is finished, and it looks nice. We plan to air it out for a week before living there, to let the smell fade."
"I see." Mrs. Wanda smiled, but there was sadness in her eyes. The Alejandro family had been living in the villa for more than half a year, and she had grown used to their presence.
The villa had been lively because there were guests to entertain, and the twins were so cute that just looking at them melted hearts.
Once the family left, the villa would return to its usual boring state. Having the Alejandro family there had been a blessing.
Mrs. Wanda didn't want them to leave, but she understood their circumstances and respected their boundaries. It seemed it was time to bid farewell.
Karlos carried the twins to their room. They were happy to see their parents back, wrapping their arms around Karlos's neck with eager squeals.
"You didn't cry this time. I'm so proud of you," Maya said, tickling them playfully, which made the twins laugh.
They had figured out tricks to prevent the kids from crying: just stuff their mouths with food. When the couple left earlier, they had prepared milk bottles, soft food, and new toys to distract them. Because of that, the twins' attention wasn't on the couple, successfully diverted. It was only a question of how long this strategy would work.
"I feel like you love food and toys more than me, you bad children," Maya teased.
"Hehehe." The twins giggled and hugged her. Of course, they loved their mother the most without question. She was number one in their hearts, the person they spent the most time with, and the warmth of her embrace was their favorite comfort.
With nothing else to do, Maya turned on the television to watch a telenovela. The title of the show was Slap-soil Woman. It was a generic story about a poor woman meeting a rich man and falling in love. However, the rich man's family opposed their relationship and did everything they could to separate the couple.
It was generic, but it was always interesting and easy to follow. Especially in the early 2000s, people loved this kind of show, and Maya found herself enjoying it.
They didn't know that the leading lady of this telenovela was Roman's girlfriend, the blonde woman on the big yacht where Karlos and Roman had first met.
