Chapter 6 - When Love Becomes a Cage

When Lena Su opened her eyes again, she saw Ethan Mo and a doctor arguing intensely.

"She's already in critical condition! Why haven't you scheduled the surgery yet?" Ethan Mo grabbed the doctor's collar, shouting furiously.

"Mr. Mo, taking it out on me won't help. Without orders from Mr. Ethan, we're not authorized to perform any treatment on Mrs. Mo," the doctor replied calmly, as if he had seen this kind of scene many times before.

Lena's heart sank. No doctor would ignore a dying patient—this had to be Ethan Mo's doing. He must've ordered them not to save her.

"Ethan…" Seeing Ethan about to hit the doctor, Lena hurriedly called out to stop him.

This hospital was under Ethan Mo's control. If Ethan Mo wanted to suppress someone, no matter who they were, they'd be at a disadvantage. She didn't want Ethan to get hurt because of her.

Hearing Lena's voice, Ethan immediately rushed to her bedside, his face filled with worry. "Lena, you're awake? Don't be afraid—I'm here. I'll save you."

"It's no use…" Lena weakly shook her head. "This hospital belongs to Ethan Mo. If he doesn't give the order, no one dares to save me."

Ethan Mo looked stunned. "What? But you're his wife!"

Lena shook her head again, a bitter smile on her pale face.

Wife? In Ethan Mo's heart, she had never been that.

"That bastard… What the hell did he do to you?" Ethan's eyes turned red as he remembered how he had found her—lying motionless in a pool of blood on the cold floor. The doctors and nurses had walked past her like she didn't exist. How hopeless must she have felt?

Lena forced a weak smile that looked more painful than crying. "Ethan, please… take me away. I don't want to stay here anymore."

"Alright. I'll get you out of here right now!"

Seeing that she didn't want to talk anymore, Ethan didn't push. He bent down to carry her, but the doctor stepped in front of him.

"Without Mr. Mo's approval, Mrs. Mo cannot leave," the doctor said coldly, without a trace of emotion.

Ethan's rage exploded. "Get the hell out of my way! I don't care who the hell Ethan Mo thinks he is—if anything happens to Lena today, I'll burn this whole place down, do you hear me?!"

He finally saw the truth: Lena's marriage to Ethan Mo was nothing but misery. So why the hell should he back down?

"Mr. Song, this is Mr. Mo's family affair. I suggest you don't get involved," the doctor replied calmly.

As soon as he finished speaking, he waved his hand, and four burly men in black suits entered the room—clearly arranged by Ethan Mo to keep an eye on Lena.

"Good. Very good!" Ethan clenched his fists in fury. "Let's see what Ethan Mo really wants!"

He grabbed Lena's phone and dialed Ethan Mo's number. The call was instantly hung up.

Lena gave a bitter smile. "He won't answer my calls."

Even more infuriated, Ethan used his own phone to call again. This time it rang longer before finally being answered—by a woman's voice.

"Hello, Mr. Mo is currently unavailable. You can tell me your message, and I'll make sure he gets it," said the voice smugly.

Ethan's expression darkened. "Meng Kexin? Put Ethan Mo on the phone!"

"Mr. Mo is in the shower right now. If there's anything urgent, I can relay it," she replied, obviously taunting.

Lena heard everything clearly—she was lying just a few feet away. That smug voice, that mocking tone. A shower in broad daylight? What else could it mean?

Her heart twisted with pain.

At the brink of death, her own husband was busy enjoying himself with another woman.

How pathetic. How ridiculous.

Ethan clenched his teeth, his voice icy cold. "Meng Kexin, you'd better put Ethan Mo on the phone right now. If you don't, I can't guarantee what I'll do."

"Ethan—"

Before Meng Kexin could finish her sentence, Ethan Mo's voice finally came through.

"This is Ethan Mo. What do you want?"

"You dare ask me that? You're Lena's husband. She just had a miscarriage, and instead of staying by her side, you're off screwing another woman? Ethan Mo, if anything happens to Lena today, I swear I'll drag you down with her!"

Ethan didn't wait for a reply. He ended the call immediately.

"Ethan… He won't come," Lena whispered, sensing another warm gush of blood under her body. Despair filled her eyes.

"Lena, don't worry. He'll come. If he doesn't, I'll drag him here myself!" Ethan gently stroked her pale face, trying to calm her.

Lena closed her eyes again, weak and worn out.

Would Ethan Mo really come to save her?
