Chapter 53 - The Listener

On the rough sea, an old three-masted sailing ship was bobbing up and down with the waves.

It wasn't fast and its size wasn't large. In this disaster scene where land and sea merged into one, it was like a withered leaf detached from a tree. However, no matter how fierce the hurricane was or how terrifying the waves were, it sailed safely without tilting.

Alger Wilson stood on the empty deck, looking out at the mountains of huge waves around him, not knowing what he was thinking.

"It's Monday again..." he murmured silently.

That was a day belonging to the Mother Earth, the beginning of a new cycle of prosperity and decline.

But for Alger, there was another meaning to it. It belonged to a mysterious being shrouded in grayish mist forever.

At least I haven't gone crazy... He looked away and smiled self-deprecatingly.

At this moment, one of his few crew members approached and respectfully asked:

"Your Eminence, what is the purpose of our voyage this time?"

Alger looked around and replied in a tone without any rise and fall:

"To hunt down a 'Listener' of the Aurora Society." ...

The storm had dissipated, and a thick fog filled the air. There were cannons on the ship, but it still seemed out of step with the times, a strange vessel with sails.

A boy of eight or nine years old, with soft, golden hair, stood tremblingly, looking at the disorderly pirates around him, watching them enjoy large barrels of beer, seeing them swinging back and forth with ropes, and observing them mocking each other and even fighting with fists.

He turned his head towards the black-robed man standing in the shadows, lowering his voice and saying:

"Father, where are we going?"

Five days ago, for the first time since he could remember, he had seen his father, who claimed to be an adventurer.

If it weren't for the painting left by his mother that proved his identity, and if the orphanage hadn't opened its doors for him, he would definitely not have left his hometown to follow this almost-unknown relative.

The man standing in the shadows lowered his head, looking at his son, and replied kindly with a gentle expression:

"Jack, I'll take you to a sacred place, the 'Sanctuary' where the Creator once lived."

"Is that the realm of the gods? Only those with divine blessings can enter... " Little Jack was well taught by his mother and had sufficient common sense. At this moment, he was both surprised and frightened.

The man standing in the shadows had a face with lines so profound that they were hard to forget. It was like a stone sculpture created by the most outstanding master.

He placed his hand on his ear and assumed a listening posture, answering in a voice that was almost in a trance:

"Jack, 'humans' is a wrong concept. The Creator created this world, He is everywhere, He exists in every living being's body. Therefore, everything has divinity, and when the divinity is rich enough, it can become an angel. The seven false gods now are merely more powerful angels."

"Look, I can hear the Creator's teachings now. Ah, what an extraordinary revelation! Life is just a spiritual journey. When the spirit is strong and resilient enough, we can find our own divinity and unite with more divinities... "

Little Jack didn't understand this complex description. He shook his head and asked another question that he hadn't had time to ask before:

"Father, I heard my mother say that after creating this world, the Creator divided into everything and didn't actually exist. Then why is there still His 'Sanctuary'?"

As a child of seven or eight years old, his logic was clear enough.

The man with the face like a carved one was stunned for a moment, then tilted his head slightly, as if hearing more whispers.

Suddenly, he fell down, kneeling on the deck with his knees, the exposed skin showing one after another dark blue things.

He covered his head with both hands, his face twisted to an extreme, crying out in extreme pain:

"They are lying!" ......

After lunch, after Neil assured him that he would bring his own next time to the underground trading market, Klein slowly returned to Blackthorn Security Company, considering whether to read the documents in the civilian personnel office, practice his skills, or continue to wander outside while Captain Dunn had not yet banned it, and to play the role of a "diviner" at the Divination Club.

However, before he could make a decision, he saw Dunn Smith enter from the outside, wearing a black windbreaker and a half-top hat.

"Captain, how's it going?" Klein thought about the whereabouts of the Antigonus family notes and asked concernedly.

Dunn's gray eyes showed no sign of fatigue as he replied:

"Multiple confirmations have shown that the Antigonus family's notes are in the hands of Rayl. Bibb, but he has completely disappeared."

"I have already informed all the night watch teams via telegram that this matter has been reported, and they should keep a close eye on all ports and steam train stations. The first batch of portraits were mailed yesterday afternoon and will be published in major newspapers."

If there were telephones, fax machines, surveillance cameras, and big data at this time... Unfortunately, I only know how to use them, and I only understand the principle a little bit... Klein let out a silent sigh.

"However, no matter what, we have found the whereabouts of that notebook, and this is your credit, of course. But it still needs further confirmation. I have sent a telegram to the Beckland Diocese, requesting them to send the 2-049 seal object over. It was a dangerous item once belonging to the Antigonus family. It can help us know if Rayl. Bibb is a descendant of the Antigonus family."

"Level 2 seal object... Dangerous... Use with caution and moderation... Klein originally wanted to ask curiously what this seal object was, what special abilities it had, where the danger was, but instantly remembered that he did not have the confidentiality level, and had to reluctantly give up.

"May the goddess bless us." Klein pressed his chest four times and drew a full moon.

Dunn opened the door to his office and nodded slightly as he said:

"The goddess has been blessing us, Klein. If you hadn't chosen 'Diviner' before, when this matter is confirmed, you should be able to become a full member and select 'Wanderer'. Unfortunately... To be honest, I have never understood why you chose 'Diviner'. Although 'Grave Collector' is somewhat repulsive, you have seen Delly and should understand how powerful a 'Diviner' is. And 'Spy' is also a good choice. At least with Neil as a role model, the risk of losing control is very low."

Regarding this question, Klein had prepared the answer beforehand, but Dunn never asked until now and brought it up casually.

He organized his words and said:

"I considered that 'Diviner' and 'Spy' belong to auxiliary extraordinary individuals, and they don't always have to face enemies, which is too dangerous. And you and Neil have also said that in the mysterious and extraordinary fields, curiosity and exploration often bring terrifying consequences. The description of 'Spy's' spying made me worried, so... Well, you know, not long ago, I was just an ordinary college student, and my only reason for choosing this was my timidity."

"I have to say, this is an answer that surprised me but also seemed reasonable." Dunn rubbed his forehead and chuckled.

He turned half around, and his deep gray eyes surveyed Klein from top to bottom:

"During this period, you continued to go out, not limited to the route from the Welch family to Iron Cross Street. Maybe you can sense that notebook and help us determine the whereabouts of Rayl. Bibb."

"Okay." Klein realized he didn't have to worry anymore.

He said goodbye and turned around, starting to count silently in his mind:

"Three, two..."

"Wait a moment." Dunn shouted.

Klein turned back and smiled slightly: "Captain, is there anything else?"

Dunn coughed and said:

"Well, even auxiliary extraordinary beings have times when they have to confront enemies. Although 'Diviner' sounds like it can avoid these situations, we can't neglect it. You must keep practicing with your firearms and plan to enhance your strength."

"This is exactly what I'm trying to do," Klein pointed outside and said, "I'm going out."

"OK, uh, wait a moment." Dunn called out to him again, thinking as he spoke, "Perhaps I need to consider hiring a martial arts teacher for you. Of course, this is on the condition that you become a full member."

Klein "mumbled" and cautiously asked:

"Captain, is there nothing else?"

"There isn't," seeing Klein's doubtful look, Dunn shook his head and smiled, emphasizing again, "There really isn't anything else."

Klein then walked out of the partition and said goodbye to Rosanne, Mrs. Oliona and others. He first went to the shooting club to do some practice, and then wandered around for a full hour, carefully completing the tasks assigned by the captain.

After all this, he came to the Divination Club and saw the beautiful Angelica lady reading a magazine leisurely.

"Family"… Klein silently recited the name, took his walking stick, and walked over. He greeted with a smile:

"Good afternoon, Ms. Angelica."

"Good afternoon, Mr. Moretti." Angelica calmly put down the magazine and stood up, saying, "Not long after you left yesterday, Mr. Grascis came. He just recovered from a serious illness."

Klein let out a sigh of relief and smiled:

"This is really a delightful thing."

When he heard this, Angelica, who had been observing him quietly, couldn't help lowering her voice and curiously asked:

"Mr. Grascis said that you are a very, very, very amazing doctor, didn't you?" What? Klein stared at the lady across from him in astonishment, suspecting that he was experiencing auditory hallucinations.

How could it be possible to tell that I was a doctor?

I myself didn't even know it...
