Kusuo could now see it clearly: Jinpachi's entire body was controlled by a network of chakra threads, all originating from a single point on his back.
"This is..." Kusuo's eyes narrowed, staring intently at Jinpachi. "A perfect-grade puppet."
Jinpachi's condition matched the description of the perfect puppet jutsu from Orochimaru's scroll. "I can't believe he actually succeeded in developing it." Even the legendary puppet master Chiyo had failed to perfect this technique. Yet Orochimaru had somehow managed to combine it with his Reanimation Jutsu.
"Ah…" Jinpachi stared blankly at his severed arm. "What's happening? What did you do?" From this, Kusuo could confirm that Jinpachi was now little more than a combat machine with no real consciousness.
"Natsuhi, get back!" Kusuo ordered.
But Natsuhi immediately formed another set of hand seals. "Fire Style! Great Fireball Jutsu!"
A massive fireball once again swallowed Jinpachi's body. Yet, when the flames subsided, he was still standing, completely unharmed.
"What?" For the first time, a look of panic crossed Natsuhi's face.
Suddenly, two figures appeared at Kusuo's side.
"Lord Kusuo." It was Kuroko and Ibiki Morino.
"What are you two doing here?" Kusuo asked without turning his head.
"We were searching for something nearby and sensed the battle. When we realized it was you, Lord Kusuo, we came immediately," Ibiki explained.
"What do you need us to do?" Kuroko asked.
Kusuo's gaze was fixed on Natsuhi. Across from her, Jinpachi, now wielding the Blastsword with his left hand, let out a tremendous roar as his chakra exploded outwards.
"It looks like he's going for an all-out attack," Ibiki noted, drawing a kunai. With a flick of his wrist, he sent it flying into Jinpachi's back. As Jinpachi turned in response to the attack, Natsuhi seized the opening.
"Peacock Method! Slash!"
A powerful blade of purple chakra descended upon Jinpachi. He swung his sword with his left hand to block. The resulting impact was immense, cracking the very ground beneath his feet. A spray of blood erupted from his mouth. Although he had blocked the attack, it had cost him dearly.
"Lord Kusuo?" Natsuhi noticed the two newcomers beside him.
"It's fine. Keep going. He's about to recover."
Just as Kusuo said, Jinpachi charged forward again. This time, Kusuo watched Jinpachi's internal state closely. Sure enough, all of his chakra was being supplied through the thread on his back, and it was that same chakra that was healing his injuries. Kusuo became intensely interested. This was different from the chakra he had encountered in the Hidden Star Village. Jinpachi's chakra thread also contained medical ninjutsu, allowing him to recover from injuries at an astonishing rate.
"Lord Kusuo, should we really not intervene?" Kuroko asked, seeing that Natsuhi was clearly struggling. Her chakra reserves were almost empty.
"Finish this quickly," Kusuo said to Natsuhi. "Reinforcements are on their way."
Jinpachi's brow furrowed at Kusuo's words. Using the Peacock Method, Natsuhi could also sense the approaching figures. Several squads, all radiating killing intent, were heading in their direction.
"You two," Kusuo said to Kuroko and Ibiki, "take care of the reinforcements."
Kuroko hesitated for a moment before nodding. With their skills as members of the Demon Slayer Corps, dealing with Anbu shinobi would be a simple task.
"Don't be nervous," Kusuo said to Natsuhi. "Focus on this guy."
Natsuhi leaped onto a nearby tree. "Fire Style! Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!" Several fireballs struck Jinpachi, who was no longer able to dodge as easily as before. The flames left several burns on his body, but the external chakra immediately began to heal the wounds.
"Just as I thought." A faint smile appeared on Kusuo's lips as he instantly appeared behind Jinpachi. "Now!"
At his command, Natsuhi charged forward. At the exact moment she reached Jinpachi, Kusuo's blade severed the chakra thread on his back.
"You dare cut off my hand! I'll kill you!" Jinpachi roared.
