Chapter 1 - Frozen heart

The sound of bullets echoed throughout the room. Not long after, a man's body fell bloody at the feet of Liza, the leader of France's most dangerous serial killer organization.

"You don't need to take matters into your own hands to deal with these scum, Mademoiselle." A well-built man with a pistol in his hand walked up to Mademoiselle.

"That traitor must feel my wrath before closing his eyes forever." Liza walked out of the room with a satisfied smile, followed by the other members, and left behind the corpse of the man who had betrayed their organization.

"I've never seen a more cruel woman than you, Mademoiselle. You tortured Louis so slowly that the pathetic man chose to shoot himself," Gavin said to nods from the other members.

"That's exactly what I want, Gavin. I never tolerate betrayal in any form," Liza replied with a satisfied smile still perched on her lips.

Liza stopped her steps, then turned around and shot one of the members standing right beside Gavin. They were all dumbfounded by Liza's action, with a confused look on each member's face.

"M-mademoiselle?"

A nervous call from one of the members woke up all of them who were still transfixed. Gavin nodded after seeing Liza's gaze and ordered the other two members to bring the corpse into the same room as Louis's.

Unbeknownst to the two, Gavin followed behind and locked them in there. It didn't take long for screams of pain to be heard along with heart-wrenching pleas for help.

Those who heard the cries only shuddered in horror and stared at Miss fearfully. "That's what you'll get if you dare to betray this organization," Liza said in a cold tone.

"Mademoiselle, do you have any free time today?" asked Gavin after they arrived at the organization's main headquarters. Liza shook her head and looked at Gavin with a questioning gaze.

"I have something to tell you," he continued. Liza gave Gavin the code to follow her into the secret room and invited him to sit with her.

"What is it?" Liza asked as she took a sip of her favorite wine.

"Can't you go back to the way you used to be, Liza? I miss your funny and playful figure. I don't like seeing you acting like a cruel woman with no feelings." Gavin looked at his cousin, who was still silent after getting the question that the woman avoided so much.

"Don't bait me, Gavin. And remember your boundaries, you are my subordinate. Never forget our status now that we are both so different."

Gavin growled in annoyance as he said, "We are indeed different, Liza. I still remember my origins, unlike you who acts like the greatest person in the world just because you're the current group leader."

"You-"

"And another thing, you should also remember that your current position is only temporary because Edrick is busy with his other business. When Edrick comes back, then you'll be a subordinate just like me," Gavin snapped angrily.

Liza exhaled slowly, then looked at her cousin coldly. "I think you're forgetting something. I got to this position the hard way, and you know exactly what I'm trying to accomplish by staying in this organization."

"Are you still thinking about that stupid grudge? It was just an accident, Liza. You misunderstood because you were so young back then, you didn't understand anything," Gavin replied.

"An accident? I was already 8 years old then, Gavin. I can clearly remember how the explosion happened and how my parents' faces suffered from glass shards at Uncle Dimitri's wedding."

Gavin approached Liza and grabbed her jaw as he said, "I think you should see a psychologist because you're crazy."

A loud laugh escaped Liza's mouth as she looked at Gavin with a dismissive gaze. "Oh, Bro. Did you also forget the last letter from your parents? It clearly says that Uncle Dimitri was the one who planned the explosion! I guess you wouldn't understand, because I was the one who accompanied them before they breathed their last! Not you, a stupid man who's Uncle Dimitri's slave for life."

Liza's intimidating gaze further muddied the waters. With a rough movement, she released Gavin's painful grip. A few minutes passed in silence until a knock on the door startled them both. Liza turned her face away and walked towards the door while grunting in annoyance.

"Dad!" Liza squealed enthusiastically. The middle-aged man just smiled and then hugged the daughter he hadn't seen in a long time.

"Comment ҫa va?"

"Bien, et toi?"

"Assez bien. How does it feel to lead a large organization in Dad's absence?" asked Edrick.

Liza explained her feelings and the activities she had undertaken, including the betrayal of Louis and his gang. She was so enthusiastic that Liza ignored Gavin, who had been glaring at her.

"Get out." The absolute order came out of Edrick's mouth after realizing Gavin's gaze was getting sassy at his daughter. Unbeknownst to the two men, a sly grin played at the corners of Liza's lips.

Edrick closed the door after making sure Gavin was gone from the room. He handed over the glass of wine Liza had left when Gavin had baited her a few minutes ago.

"Thanks."

"Did you guys have a fight?" asked Edrick, prompting a surprised look from the princess. Liza's gaze seemed to indicate that Edrick should clarify his words.

"You and Gavin. Did you fight?" He repeated.

"No, no. Just a small problem," Liza replied.

Edrick shrugged his shoulders after hearing the princess' unconvincing answer. He changed the subject and discussed a few things about the organization, including the order to remove some state officials who were involved in the political arena.

"Are you sure you want to handle this task alone?" asked Edrick as he slid a laptop containing a photo of a famous politician towards Liza.

"Yes. He's just a little mouse to me," Liza replied lightly.

"Don't underestimate him, Ma cherie." Edrick walked over to the painting in front of him and pressed the top side. The wall behind the painting shifted, revealing a secret passage that led somewhere.

Liza followed her father's footsteps until both of their bodies disappeared after the wall that had been open closed again.

On the other hand, Gavin threw the earpiece that had been perched on his ear in annoyance. He deliberately placed the special device to hear Liza and Edrick's conversation.

But his attempt failed because the voices of his two targets suddenly disappeared. Gavin picked up his cell phone lying on the table and called someone to report something.

"Hello," greeted a man with a distinctive bass voice.

"The Lion seems to be up to something with the Rabbit as bait." Gavin gave a few secret codes while keeping an eye on his surroundings.

"Keep an eye on those two."
