Chapter 1 - chapter one :The Rescue

The moon hung low and full over the dense forest surrounding Raven's Hollow, casting a silver glow that filtered through the thick canopy of ancient oaks and evergreens. The night air was crisp and cool, carrying the scent of pine, damp earth, and something else — something sharp and unsettling that made Luca's senses prick with unease.

He moved silently, a shadow among shadows, his every muscle coiled and ready beneath his black leather jacket. His amber eyes, glowing faintly in the moonlight, scanned the underbrush with a predator's precision. As alpha of the Blackclaw pack, Luca had learned to trust his instincts — and tonight, they screamed that something was wrong.

The forest was usually peaceful on nights like this, save for the occasional rustle of small animals or the distant hoot of an owl. But now, a sound tore through the calm — a scream. Sharp, desperate, unmistakably human.

Luca's heart thudded in his chest, adrenaline surging through his veins as he sprinted toward the source of the cry. His boots barely made a sound on the mossy ground as he pushed through the thick brush. The scream came again, closer now, laced with terror.

As he broke into a small clearing, moonlight bathed the scene ahead. A woman crouched behind a fallen log, her chestnut hair wild and tangled, eyes wide with fear and glowing green in the moonlight. In her trembling hands, she clutched a small camera, its lens cracked and smeared with dirt.

"Stay back!" she hissed, her voice shaking.

Luca stepped out from the shadows, his form shifting fluidly from wolf to human mid-stride. His broad shoulders and tall frame bore the telltale marks of a warrior — a faint scar along his jawline, muscles hardened by years of battle. His amber eyes softened as they met hers, filled with calm reassurance.

"I'm here to help," he said gently.

The woman's gaze flickered to the dark woods behind him, where a low growl rumbled. From the shadows, a figure emerged — a rogue werewolf, wild and twisted, eyes burning with feral rage. Its snarling jaws revealed sharp teeth dripping with saliva as it lunged toward the woman.

Luca's body tensed instantly. With a guttural roar, he sprang forward, intercepting the attacker with claws bared. The two beasts collided in a violent clash beneath the silver moon, muscles straining, teeth snapping.

Emily's breath caught in her throat as she watched, frozen yet mesmerized by the alpha's power and ferocity. Despite her fear, she felt a strange sense of awe — this creature was protecting her, risking everything.

The rogue snarled and snapped, but Luca was relentless. His moves were sharp and precise, a deadly dance perfected over years of defending his pack. With a final powerful swipe, he sent the attacker retreating into the darkness, its growls fading into the night.

Luca turned back to Emily, his chest heaving from exertion but his voice steady. "You're safe now."

She swallowed hard, the adrenaline still coursing through her veins. Her green eyes searched his face, seeing the wolf beneath the man — fierce, protective, and something deeply lonely. "Thank you," she whispered.

"What are you doing out here alone?" Luca asked, concern threading his tone.

Emily hesitated. "I was... looking for answers."

His brow furrowed. "Answers about what?"

She glanced toward the forest's edge, voice barely audible. "About my past. About my parents. They disappeared years ago, and I've been trying to find out why."

Luca nodded slowly, sensing there was more to her story than she let on. "This place isn't safe for humans after dark."

"I know," she said, voice trembling. "But I couldn't stay away."

A heavy silence settled between them, filled with unspoken questions and an uneasy connection. Luca was aware of the pack law: no fraternizing with humans. Yet here, standing beneath the glow of the full moon, something stirred inside him — a pull he couldn't ignore.

"Come with me," he said finally. "I'll get you to safety."

Emily hesitated but then nodded, rising shakily to her feet. Luca led her through the forest, moving swiftly but carefully, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.

As they walked, Emily stole glances at him — the way his amber eyes glinted in the moonlight, the strength in his stride, the tension that seemed to ripple beneath his skin. She felt both afraid and strangely comforted.

When they reached the edge of the forest, Luca led her to a secluded cabin — the packhouse. It was a sturdy structure of weathered wood and stone, surrounded by the thick forest. Luca opened the door and gestured inside.

"Rest here," he said.

Emily stepped into the warm glow of the cabin's hearth, the scent of pine and smoke filling her senses. She sank onto a worn leather chair, still trembling but safe.

Luca sat opposite her, watching her carefully. "You're not like other humans," he said softly.

Emily looked up, surprised. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know yet," he admitted. "But there's something about you... different."

Her heart raced. "I've felt that too. Like there's something I'm missing — something important."

Luca nodded. "The pack will have questions. And not everyone will be as understanding."

Emily's gaze hardened. "I'm ready to face whatever comes. I need to know the truth."

Luca studied her for a long moment, then offered a small, rare smile. "Then we'll find it together."

Outside, the moon continued its slow arc across the sky, casting silver light over Raven's Hollow. Two worlds — wolf and human — had collided tonight, setting in motion a chain of events that would change everything.
