Chapter 1 - Welcome to Jujutsu High

It has been five years since the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, was defeated by the students of Satoru Gojo. Although Gojo had lost the battle with Sukuna, his ideals—of raising strong allies—ultimately prevailed.

That's what I've heard and seen, at least. I'm not one to pretend I know everything, but I did watch the livestream. I did see the showdown that happened in Shinjuku.

The secret society of jujutsu was no longer a secret. A dozen individuals came forward as sorcerers. Even interviews were held and broadcast on television. The ones involved in the Shinjuku incident refused to be interviewed.

Someone like me had been oblivious to all that was going on in my own country, even though I considered myself an intellectual.

I didn't believe in ghosts—until I had to confront them. The beings called curses.

I had to run away from one. I nearly lost my life... until a friend of mine saved me.

Yes, I was now aware of curses. After the Japanese government officially declassified their existence, I was skeptical. But I had no choice but to believe. There was no point denying something I had seen with my own two eyes.

The sight burned into my retina has haunted me for a while. I don't yet know if it was a blessing or a curse. However, my innate technique awakened after Sukuna's defeat.

The inner workings of my technique are still a mystery to me. But I know it has something to do with art.

Many people with innate techniques became celebrities, using their powers to gain fame. They got rich. People accepted them—some even worshipped them.

I didn't want any of that. So I decided to stay quiet.

However, even my best efforts couldn't keep me hidden from the people at Jujutsu High. They invited me to attend.

I was hesitant at first. But everything was going to be provided, and I couldn't afford to pass it up.

And so, here I am—standing in front of Jujutsu High, ready to take the next step in my life.

I was pretty nervous, my breathing had became heavier, and I could feel my arms shake. I took a deep breath.

Fortunately, there was someone I recognized.

It was John—the friend who had saved my life.

I still don't know how I can repay him.

Even after saving me, he gave me something... intriguing: a weapon. Specifically, a cursed tool he had made just for me.

It's a giant polearm-like weapon. The tool has a nib, like a dip pen. Apparently, it was designed this way to work well with my cursed technique.

John said he knew how much I enjoyed drawing, so he thought it would be the perfect weapon for me.

Of course John would know. He's been with me all throughout my childhood, and he only recently returned from abroad.

"Hey, dumbface! Why are you spacing out at a time like this?" John teased.

"Oh, come on. Don't call me that here. We just arrived. Just call me by my name."

"Haha, don't worry about it, Neru. I was just kidding. You should focus more on the task at hand."

"Fine, fine, I get it. Anyway... thank you for the cursed tool. I really appreciate it. I can't thank you enough," I replied.

Although I felt bad for owing him something, he didn't seem to mind.

"I already told you not to worry about it. Just treat me to lunch," he replied with a smile.

I simply nod.

His bright smile had deflected all my attempts to repay his kindness. This is when I had realised that it was futile to go against his will.

Then, I heard footsteps....

"Ah, are you guys the new students? I thought Yuji was supposed to pick you guys up. Tsk, nevermind that, I'm Megumi Fushiguro, nice to meet you. We should get going"

After introducing himself, Fushiguro started to give us a tour around Jujutsu High. The campus was spacious, however, I felt that it was quite large for just a few students.

The buildings were mostly made using traditional Japanese architecture, although I expected it to be built with more modern techniques. You could tell that it wasn't occupied for a while.

"Mr.Fushiguro, may I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead" he replied

"This place feels very old and abandoned, are there any more students besides us?" Raising my concern.

"Well, for the past 5 years, we haven't had any new students, not because there's a lack of sorcerers, but because we had some restructuring of administration. We've only recently started taking students again this year. And we decided not to admit sorcerers who became celebrities"

Hearing this, I agreed with their decision about famous sorcerers, It would definitely bring trouble to this establishment.

"Ah, thank you, Mr.Fushiguro" I expressed my gratitude.

"Oh? Neru, when did you become so extroverted? Asking questions first this time?" John teased me

"Come on, I was just curious, nothing to nag me about" we both shared a laugh.

...

After giving us a full tour of the place, Megumi, he guided us towards our dorm where we would be staying. He gave us the key to our own separate room.

At this point, I was pretty excited about this whole sorcerer thing. Although, I had wondered where this will eventually lead me.
