Chapter 4 - Hope

"Silence, everyone!" bellowed Mr. Mu Kanjo, his voice cutting through the murmurs that filled the Hall. "It's time to commence the event we've all been anticipating. The clock has struck twelve midnight, a significant hour, the master has awakened from his long slumber… Soon, we shall unleash the dogs and embark on our hunt. Those who achieve the highest number of kills will be granted a single wish from our master. And by 'dogs,' I am, of course, referring to the one hundred unfortunate souls, humans, who are currently imprisoned in a cage suspended from the ceiling. This unfortunate group includes women, men, and even children…"

He paused for dramatic effect, scanning the gathered crowd of creatures with a glint of wicked excitement in his eyes. "You are given full permission to do as you wish with their bodies, but take heed: you must present the hearts to the master as proof of your kill. This collection consists of thirty children, thirty females, and forty males… It's essential for you to remember that those who bring down the most children will receive more than just a simple wish; they will be granted a place in the master's blood—a gift of immortality bestowed upon you."

Mr. Mu Kanjo's voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, as he continued, "This event is a rare and dreadful occurrence, taking place only once every hundred years"….

The atmosphere buzzed with energy as an array of different monsters filled the party.: Goblins, Chupacabra, dark elves known as Drow, banshees, wizards, witches, and terrifying CharyThes. Overall the atmosphere was thick with a sense of impending doom, permeated by an unmistakable hunger for blood. And now, with the master awake,

A coffin emerged from the ground at the center of the hall, creaking as it cracked open and capturing everyone's attention…. As the slide of the coffin gently opened, a billow of green fumes escaped into the air, catching the attention of everyone present. Some of the creatures swiveled their heads toward the source, curious yet cautious, and they sensed fear and dread

From within the coffin emerged a figure; at first glance, he appeared to be a man, yet the aura surrounding him was anything but human. A collective shiver ran through the crowd as all present stepped back in fear and reverence, instinctively bowing their heads in submission. The master was a pale shadow of his former self, emaciated and skeletal, as though the very essence of life had fled from his being. His skin hung loosely over his bones, and his hair had long since fallen away, leaving him as a ghastly reminder of immortality. "I'm thirsty," murmured the ancient one, directing his gaze toward the cage that held the humans captive. "Bring me one of those," he commanded, pointing to his very first potential meal in a century. This creature had slumbered for a hundred years and had seen far more than five millennia of existence.

Without a moment's hesitation, Mr. Mu Kanjo strode into the prison, seizing one of the young captives—a girl of around nine years old. She struggled feebly in his grasp, her terrified cries echoing through the somber hall. "No, no, no! Help me! Please!" she begged, desperation flooding her voice. Yet, her pleas fell on deaf ears. As he delivered her to the master, the ancient being seized her by the neck, his grip like iron, and before anyone could react, he sank his teeth into her flesh, draining her life force in an instant. In mere moments, her body became mummified, nothing left of her but a hollow shell.

The sight was enough to incite a wave of horror amongst the other prisoners, who erupted into screams of terror and despair. "Mommy, are we going to die too?" a small voice quivered, a child gazing up at her mother, eyes wide with fear. Yet, the mother, having lost all hope, was left speechless, unable to articulate a response. "We are already dead," came the unsettling reply from a man among the captives, as he offered a strange, resigned smile.

The master, now revitalized as if he had been rejuvenated in the waters of youth, stood up, his form entirely exposed. Mu Kanjo rushed forward to drape a coat around him, shielding him with a tattered garment. "Welcome, everyone," he proclaimed, his voice echoing through the hall as the darkness of the night enveloped them all..

As Jean saw everything in the hall, she felt her breath catch in her throat at the horrifying scene that unfolded before her. The Master, a grotesque figure, was indulging his appetite on the young girl in a display so disturbing that it made her stomach churn violently. Overwhelmed by the sight, she lost control and vomited, splattering the green-eyed goblin who stood just in front of her. The goblin whirled around, surprise etched across his face as he took in the sight of her human form. "You fool!" he exclaimed, his voice rising in pitch as he realized it was a human. "How did you get in here? Who are you?" His outburst momentarily interrupted the master, who had been speaking with an unsettling calmness.

"Release the prisoners into the cold night, and let the hunt begin!" the master commanded, his voice booming through the hall. The resonance of his words reached the gathered crowd, while the goblin's attention remained on Jean. In that moment, the Master locked eyes with her and was struck by her beauty. "Mr. Mu Kanjo, we have an unexpected visitor," he said, his tone laced with irritation and amusement.

"My apologies, sire. I truly have no idea how she managed to escape her confinement," Mu stammered, visibly flustered. The master, with an air of command, pointed towards Jean and beckoned her forward. "Come forth, my child," he instructed, and to her horror, it felt as though an invisible force compelled her to move. Jean found herself inching closer against her will, every step heightening her sense of impending doom. The undeniable truth settled in her mind: both her own life and the life of the unborn child growing within her were now in grave peril.

In the depths of her heart, she called out to the dark entity that had intertwined its fate with hers, "Dark One." The reality of their shared existence weighed heavily upon her. Looks like we die tonight holding her stomach?" she thought, a bittersweet smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she accepted the dark fate looming over them both. "This is where it all culminates…" she mused, fearing what comes next
