Cherreads

Chapter 8 - First Job.

I can't sleep. I keep thinking about his offer. I don't want to get too deep into the job that I forget my desire to go home. I just don't ever feel like I belong in this world. I miss killing monsters. I miss my powers. I miss my old self. I have always wanted to increase my rank. I never got to earn a title from the Academy of Necromancy.

I might never get the chance.

I rest my head on his bare chest. He is sleeping soundly but not peacefully. I can tell that his dream is unpleasant.

He stirs. I trace his unbearded jaw. I have never known what love is but if it what is making me second guess my wish to go back home, then I want no part in it.

"Don't make me fall in love with you". I whisper as I stroke his jaw lightly.

I roll off the bed. To my surprise, he catches my wrist. I look at him. His eyes are still closed.

"Why don't you want to fall in love with me? What are you so afraid of?" He asks.

I scoff and jerk my hand out of his grasp.

"It's getting dark. We have to get ready to leave". I say and walk into the closet.

I can feel his gaze on my naked body as I leave.

For the kind of job we are going on, I need a black leather outfit. It helps me blend into the night.

I select thick leather pants and put them on. I put on a matching leather jacket and open the secret door to his weaponry.

I have barely been here, but his collections always takes my breath away. He has almost all the types of swords that exist in this world. He even has the legendary Kurusagama. There are varieties of Nonchucks, sickle knives, daggers.

He comes in behind me.

"Do you use all of these?" I ask, running my hand over the blood reaper. As I touch it, I hear the cry of a dead soul. The blood reaper has definitely seen good days.

He just smiles and walks past me. He pulls out twin blades and their matching daggers.

"These are my favourites". He says.

He puts on the strap and slides the blades across each other on his back. Assasins never use guns. It is against their code of conduct. The moment you use a gun, you are stripped of your rank and title.

I just carry small knives and slide them into my shoe.

In my world, I never needed weapons. My third dimension form is a weapon on its own. My arms can transform into any kind of weapon I want.

"I have something for you". He says, startling me out of my thoughts.

He goes into the room and comes back with his briefcase. He removes a bottle with blood and a parcel.

I collect the bottle containing blood and open it. The blood is no longer fresh. I take a quick look at him before I drink it.

His eyes widen only for a second.

I zone out. The owner of the blood belongs to a group of hitmen called The Vultures. He and his partners took on a job for Donna Garcia. She wants my husband killed because she has evidence that he assasinated her late husband. She lives in the elite part of town.

I wake up and return to my zone.

Karim is just staring at me.

"What did you see?" He asks.

"Just what I wanted to see. I have the address you are looking for". I say.

He looks shocked for a minute. He is probably wondering how I know he was looking for the address of the woman the hitmen worked for.

Their ghosts are standing behind him. They are angry.

He snaps his fingers in front of my eyes.

"Are you seeing something else?" He asks.

I return my gaze to him.

"No, just the ghosts of the four hit men you killed this afternoon". I say.

His eyes widen and he looks behind him.

"What are they saying?" He asks.

"Nothing. They are furious". I respond.

He just hands me the parcel. I know what is in it before I even touch it. I can feel the power emanating from it. I feel even closer to my true form now.

I look up at him.

"Thank you". I say sincerely.

He just nods.

"I made a promise, it's no big deal. After all, we made a deal". He says and turns to leave.

I hold his shoulder and stop him.

"It is a big deal. In my world, giving power stones is considered a very huge honour. Thank you". I say.

His eyes soften slightly and he nods.

We switch off the house lights and set up the security system.

"How's your neck?" He asks as we enter the car.

"Better". I reply.

He speeds down the driveway and into the road. The ride is silent. I see so many ghosts along the road and at the bus station. They are lost. I hear their loud cries all at once. We even drive through one standing in the middle of the road.

We speed down the road until we reach the area where Donna Garcia lives.

I open the parcel filled with gems and empty all its contents into the pockets of my leather jacket.

I sense something off as we walk through the bushes that lead to the mansion.

We encounter a barbed wire fence.

He smiles at me and sommersaults over the eight foot tall fence.

I am impressed.

I remove one of the stones and summon the power from it. I open a portal and a huge arms comes out and lifts me over the fence. My husband's jaw drops to the ground. The hand disappears back into the portal as soon as my feet touch the ground.

I pick his jaw up for him.

"We have to keep moving" . I say.

Just as we turn to proceed, hitmen come out from every angle and surround us.
