"I'm sorry, Miss Juliana," the nanny said, her voice dropping. "Mr. Johnson says Mrs. Johnson is sleeping and cannot be disturbed."
I knew it was a lie. Evelyn never napped during the day—her insomnia made sleep precious, and she saved it for nighttime.
"She's lying," I told the Beaumonts, keeping my voice low. "Evelyn doesn't sleep during the day."
Before I could say more, Uncle Gavin stepped forward, his broad shoulders blocking my path. "You heard her. My sister-in-law is resting. Now leave before I call security."
I tried to step around him, but he mirrored my movement. My patience was wearing thin.
"I need to see her. This can't wait."
"Nothing you have to say could possibly be that important," Gavin scoffed.
The sound of another car pulling up drew everyone's attention. My stomach tightened as I recognized my father's sleek Mercedes. Cameron Johnson stepped out, his expression darkening when he spotted me.
