Chapter 229 - Why Won't You Drink Blood?

How did the Four Emperors era come to be? No one knows the exact reason, but a rough deduction can be made.

Why, during the time of Roger, Shiki, and Whitebeard, was there no "Three Emperors"?

After wandering this world for over a decade, Alucard was beginning to understand why.

Back in Roger's time, the three great pirates were a group who refused to submit to anyone, all of them wanting to take out the others. Whitebeard, in particular, was on a completely different level of ambition and drive compared to his later years.

A deep dive into Whitebeard's history shows that Edward Newgate only formed the Whitebeard Pirates later in his middle age. Unlike Luffy and Roger, he didn't start his journey as his own captain. He spent a long time as a crewmate on other ships.

That was when Whitebeard was at his most ambitious. It wasn't until his middle age that he realized what he truly wanted was "family." Only then did he start his own crew and gather a host of "sons" like Marco and Jozu.

In other words, the reason there was no "Three Emperors" during Roger's era was entirely because Whitebeard later lost his ambition, replacing it with a desire for family.

Now, Alucard hoped to bring the Four Emperors era, which was supposed to arrive several years, if not a decade, from now, into existence early. To do that, he couldn't just float around the sea like a tourist anymore. He had to act with a plan.

The first thing Alucard needed to do upon entering the New World was to form an alliance with the other three: Whitebeard, Kaido, and Charlotte Linlin.

But before he could contact them, he first needed a base of operations.

Both Whitebeard, one of the previous generation's titans, and the other two members of the current "Three Monsters," Big Mom and Kaido, already had their own territories. However, due to various conflicts and obstacles, their control was nowhere near the level of the future Four Emperors.

In contrast, Alucard had no territory whatsoever. He didn't even have a pirate flag because he never cared about such things.

However, for his current plan, a flag was still unnecessary, but a territory was essential, or else nothing would go smoothly.

Just like when he used to sail, Alucard sat on the throne at the bow of the ship. No, it was now the incredibly expensive ruby chair he acquired when he was impersonating a Celestial Dragon.

"Hancock."

Hearing Alucard call her name, Hancock, who was chatting with her two sisters, quickly scampered over. She knelt down obediently. "Yes, master!"

"What's the closest island to here?"

Hancock immediately checked her Eternal Pose and map. A few minutes later, she answered, "We can reach a country called Dressrosa in about two days."

She leaned closer to Alucard, pointing at the "Dressrosa" on the map.

"Alright, we'll go there," Alucard decided.

Hancock's eyes darted around, and she finally gathered the courage to ask, "M-Master, can you tell me what we're going there for?"

"To meet the other three monsters."

Alucard's simple reply left the three Boa sisters confused. Monsters? Who?

Hancock blinked and asked another question. "Then… why did you choose here?"

Alucard glanced at her. "It's close."

"…" All three sisters were speechless.

When it was time for dinner, the three sisters naturally didn't call Alucard. They had spent nearly half a year in Mariejois's palace and had never seen him eat anything. He only ever drank red wine, or… virgin blood.

Women from Amazon Lily were far from "ladies."

Inside their room, Marigold and Sandersonia were feasting on the plates of Sea King meat. Hancock, however, knit her brows, completely uninterested in the meat on her plate. A faint look of disgust was in her eyes.

Sandersonia noticed her sister's odd behavior and suddenly realized, "Oh, that's right. Onee-sama has become like Alucard-sama and can't eat this anymore."

She got up and rummaged through a cabinet next to the dining table. She poured a crimson liquid into one of Alucard's usual wine glasses. But it wasn't wine. It was human blood!

Sandersonia placed the full cup of blood on Hancock's table. Marigold also looked on with a worried expression.

Sandersonia's face was grim. "Alucard-sama said… this is what you'll be eating from now on, Onee-sama."

Hancock stared at the cup of human blood with a mix of fear and longing. She reached for the glass, then pulled her hand back.

After repeating the motion more than a dozen times, her fingers finally wrapped around the stem of the glass. As her sisters watched, Hancock was about to bring the blood to her lips. But when the cup was less than half an inch away, her hand trembled, and she dropped the glass. The crimson liquid splashed all over the floor.

Hancock clutched the table, breathing heavily as if she had just endured some form of mental torture.

Sandersonia and Marigold looked at her in a panic. Just then, Alucard walked directly through the wall behind the room, causing both sisters to instantly stand at attention.

He looked at the pained Hancock, who was still holding onto the table, and his face showed extreme displeasure. "Why won't you drink the blood?"

After nearly another half-minute of heavy breathing, Hancock finally managed to compose herself. She lowered her head, her face full of confusion. "I… I don't know."

"It feels like… if I drink it, I won't know what I'll turn into…"

Alucard stared at Hancock for a long time before he scoffed and turned away. "A half-measure… fine. Just stay the way you are."

"Maybe this way is a little better."

"Yes, master!"

Two days later, Alucard finally arrived at Dressrosa, the destitute country that the Donquixote Family had abandoned centuries ago, now ruled by the Riku Family.
