Chapter 241 - Chapter 241: The Dawnlight Sector

Chapter 241: The Dawnlight Sector

With the conclusion of the comprehensive military operation against the nobility of the Dawnlight Sector five months later, in the year 753, the Dawnbreakers formally established their rule.

Civil servants from the Church of the Dawn and the sector government headquarters quickly expanded their presence, and at the same time, the reconstruction of the entire sector was in full swing.

In fact, many factions, such as the Adeptus Mechanicus and the nobles of other sectors, were preparing to watch the show, as they had never seen how the citizens of the Imperium could survive without their governance.

But they were soon dumbfounded.

Construction teams, composed of technicians trained by "unknown" technical personnel—that is, the Dark Angels and members under Cawl's command—began to appear in every corner of the sector. They built new industrial facilities on the existing Imperial worlds and repaired the production lines that had been left over from the Dark Age of Technology.

Feudal and agri-worlds saw a period of development, beginning to cultivate livestock and crops that were considered luxuries in the Imperium, for the purpose of trade. As for the hive worlds, the sector government used unknown methods to transform them, greatly reducing planetary pollution. The efficient response and the intervention of a strong government also began to reduce the number of people stranded in the underhives.

As the Dawnlight Sector government gradually began to operate, the planets that had been devastated by war began to recover rapidly and in an orderly manner. More and more planets joined the network controlled by a unified government, the average standard of living gradually rose, and logistics and trade became more frequent.

Just as the Adeptus Mechanicus was trying to get a piece of the pie by offering to help build various types of shipyards, a series of new shipyards were completed one after another. The targets of these shipyards were not the sector government's navy, but the charter fleets.

These fleets, built with T'au Empire superluminal propulsion technology, did not require warp engines or Navigators, and were faster than the Imperium's standard conventional engines. Even though these engines, due to their size, could not be installed on smaller ships, this was not a disadvantage. Because they needed to transport large amounts of goods, the ships of the charter fleets were already astonishingly large.

While coordinating the logistics work, the sector government also issued a large number of charter fleet licenses for private trade, a necessary means to strengthen the ties between the various sectors and promote commercial prosperity. Even the neighboring sectors of the Dawnlight Sector saw development.

After all, in addition to the growth of the sector's productivity and logistical capabilities, the elite Astartes and their auxiliary forces, controlled by the Primarchs, had never stopped their purge of the various enemies of the Imperium. This universe was never short of military operations that required your participation.

The entire Dawnlight Sector had entered a relatively stable phase.

And after the centralization of power, the Dawnlight Sector did not become closed off. In fact, it welcomed trade from other sectors, and would also provide necessary and stable supplies to the various Imperial armed forces, such as the Imperial Navy, the Astartes, and the Astra Militarum. Compared to most, who needed to resort to harsh measures in times of crisis, the Dawnlight Sector could always provide what they needed.

In just a few short years, the various Imperial fleets patrolling the surrounding area preferred to come to the Dawnlight Sector for supplies, which in turn further boosted logistics and trade. A trade route with warships passing through was a mobile defensive line, and its security was more attractive to the Imperial merchants.

So the expected conflict did not erupt. Instead, as communication between them strengthened, their ties became closer. It was just that many people now found it strange. Where did they get so many civil servants? Where did they get such comprehensive technology? How did they achieve stable communication between the various planets? And where did they get the energy to so meticulously control the operations of each planet?

"A.I., of course. Otherwise, do you think Old Rom's brain could calculate for a thousand planets?" Ramesses said, putting down his can of amasec in response to Karna's question.

"You really dare to use it," Karna said. He had just finished his first round of grassroots investigation and was walking side-by-side with Ramesses. He hadn't known about this. The operations on the various planets were basically run by human power. With the cooperation of the Astartes, it was actually quite smooth. But they mostly just needed to do the statistical work, report it through the now-stable astropathic communication network connecting the various planets, and then the sector government would make the decisions.

The computation, naturally, was done by an A.I. The decision-making was left to the civil servants of the various administrative departments.

The Pioneer system was still called that, to commemorate the Preservers. The location of this system was very good. It was right on the edge of the yet-to-open Great Rift, had a large amount of Blackstone, and reality was very stable. As the current sector capital, Pioneer III, now Dawnstar, was the seat of the sector government.

"What's there to be afraid of? And we're very cautious. Only this one planet is equipped with an A.I. The others don't have it. We just sent a few more Astartes to the hive worlds," Ramesses said nonchalantly.

If an ordinary Imperial faction were to use a bit of heretical technology, they would be very timid. A single misstep could lead to exposure, and then the various factions would come to send you on your way. But the Dawnbreakers had no such worries. Of course, if they were ordinary Space Marines, or Rogue Traders, or sector governors, they would have to be timid. But they were Primarchs.

Ramesses looked out the window. In the grandest plaza of Dawnstar stood the sigil of the Dawnbreakers, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Beneath it were the statues of the four Primarchs. Two of them had their styles slightly concealed, their faces not revealed, but the Imperial citizens who came to pay their respects were still a teeming crowd. Because the armour that wrapped the statues' bodies was the same as that worn by the Primarchs.

The Dawnbreakers' greatest advantage was that they had accepted the identity of "Primarch." This was a status of extremely high standing in the entire Imperium, and it naturally had a centripetal force on the Ecclesiarchy, the Astartes, and a large number of Imperial citizens. So it was very difficult for the Inquisition and the Adeptus Mechanicus to directly brand such a "Primarch" faction as heretical, especially when they could bring common prosperity to everyone.

They haven't brought their blades to Terra, have they? What's there to be afraid of?

"So why did you call me back?" Karna asked. "I prefer to look around."

In the time after the internal purge war, he had been wandering the sector. Aside from fighting, he had been touring with the Angel's sons, from Gaul III to Astorgius, from an unnamed planet to the now-prosperous Dawnstar. He had left his footprints all over the Dawnlight Sector. Compared to the politics and honor he disliked, he cared more about the small things that were insignificant in the eyes of others. For example, the environmental changes on those planets, the reduction of resource waste due to the efficiency of the government, and whether the people's standard of living had risen.

"That's because you don't have to work," Ramesses couldn't help but retort. "An ordinary enemy poses no threat to you now. You don't have to get up at seven or eight every day and go to work in a factory under the command of a foreman. You don't have to wear heavy protective equipment and weld steel plates in a foundry. All you do is look around. Of course, such a life is comfortable."

He had been working non-stop with Romulus to update the 'Ling-Ling' online office platform recently, and he was about to be driven mad by the administrative work. And he also had to conduct his own research in the warp. Fortunately, this time they didn't have to charge into the Eye of Terror, otherwise he would have had to open a new research project on the acquisition of the power of the Death God and a series of contingency plans for warp activities.

"Er, I do other things besides fight," Karna couldn't help but argue, faced with his resentful companion.

"True. If you weren't out there, we wouldn't even know if the policies were being implemented," Ramesses said, no longer dwelling on this point. He knew he couldn't blame his companion who was always contributing.

"So what am I back for?" Karna asked again.

"The internal production capacity has been sorted out," Ramesses said, looking up at the starport in the sky, where a massive fleet was gathering. "Remember we still need to liaise with those military node-worlds in the Segmentum Obscurus?"

"What about Terra?" Karna was surprised.

"Terra, ah—" Ramesses stroked his chin, recalling for a moment, then chuckled softly. "We wish them the best of luck."

"So the Dawnlight Sector is planning to formally take over the supply work for the various military planets in the Segmentum Obscurus?"

For some reason, even though a very large Imperial power was expanding its influence, the Master of the Administratum let out a heartfelt sigh of relief. After understanding the situation, he pulled his hand away from a file on a Genestealer incursion at Terra's Landing Zone 9 and signed it. "Let them go. The Administratum will cooperate," he said wearily.
