"Some people say the life you have now is the result of your old life's. It could be punishments of sins, or a gift of old virtues"
"...I don't think so mom. How can we be punished or rewarded by something we don't even remember? It's not fair!"
Her mother smiled and chuckles. Her peach colored eyes lend a soft gaze upon her daughter's pale face
"Then, would you agreed if i say that every life is a miracle?"
"Well, i'll like that more!"
She said as her mouth stretched into a big grin, closing her eyes and slightly tilting her head.
"Aww... Aren't you a sweet angel my dear? Oh you're just too cute!!!"
Her mother hugs her. It's tight and close, but not suffocating at all, not like the room they're in.
She'd make sure that her daughter can feel her love and warmth as much, before it's too late. Her daughter may smiled and laughed, but between those warmth, the mother might've let slip one or two tears down to her skinny cheeks.
"Remember, my dear Elodia, you should'nt left out your mind just for your heart, don't get fooled by how friendly a snake can be.
For this life may be scary, lonely, and tiring, but you shall not forget, the world might seemed unfair, but it always repay"
Mother's soft gaze turned more cold, as if they've faced hell just to return with those words.
I recognize them as a warning, and as the last piece of advice a mother can give.
Catherine La Vernie, and her mother Lilian La Vernie was casted out of the Vernie family, and abandoned on a tower, in the middle of nowhere.
A place where only snow could fall, through out all seasons, and not even a slightest sign of Civilization or human at all...
The place where you would only met dangerous monsters and beasts lurking in the forest that surrounded this area.
They cannot leave, but they were still able to survive, thanks to the mother's brain and brawn.
Since she could remember a thing, Catherine was already on the tower. Because of that, she never really carefully about what happened in the past, she was just happy being with her mother.
But she's still a child after all, curiousity is common for the young kids.
She was 5 years old when she asked her first question about the past.
"Mom... I've been wondering, can you tell me why... We were here?"
Lilian doesn't even move her head and calmly answer.
"The past isn't something we need to clung at, we just need to focus on what we have now and what's ahead of us"
Catherine wasn't satisfied with her answer, but she doesn't want to ask more. She was indeed a mature child for her age, yet she only lowered her gaze untill her golden like hair covered most of her face.
"Alright... I guess you're right..."
Lilian likes to give life lessons that didn't match Catherine's age, like she's initially make Catherine more mature than her age.
Not just life lessons, she also teached Catherine all the knowledge she had, but Catherine it self was a prodigy, she'd excel at everything she learned.
She didn't just learn from her mother, but also from the books of the tower, or from first experience in the woods.
"You'll grown into a fair yet intelligent lady someday. I am so lucky to have you right now... But i don't think i'll be lucky enough to see you've grown.."
"Mom, please don't say that!"
It was when Catherine turned 8, Liliana fell i'll. Catherine tried everything she can to cure her one and only mother, but no can do.
As time passed, Catherine can watch her mother going weaker and weaker.
Liliana, who once can take down three beast with a simple dagger, now could'nt even get up from her bed.
"Dear... My love, my dear Catherine, how old are you now?"
Her voice is trembling, her eyes could only opened half of her peach colored pupil, yet she was smiling, comforting her beloved daughter.
"I- i'm turning 9 this year mom..."
Catherine lowered her head, covering her face with her golden hair, but she could'nt hide her feelings. You can sense it from her tone, it's sadness, fear, and guilt.
"You know dear? I think i've never talked about our family have'nt i?"
"N- no, not yet mother..."
Now a sense of curiousity and anger, mixed in with her tone.
'I can't believe this... I might've been curiousity, but i never thought that i will only heart it as one of my mother's last moments. I'm such a bad daughter for getting excited and angry with this..."
"Your father, was indeed a lovely man, He's handsome and rich. He may appear cold at first glance, but he was a nice man.
Meanwhile your brothers..."
"Wait, i have brothers?!"
"Ah, i have'nt told that either huh, well yeah, you have two older brother.
They're can be a little mischivious especially the second one, while the first born really took after his father's personality.
Heh... They're still angels, even though you're much better angel than those two my dear.."
Catherine who was sitting beside her, strengthen her grip to her dress, her mouth is tight and her eyebrows frowned, not in hatred, but more of a... Regret.
"Why... Did you only tell me now? Out of all time, it's just... Why?"
Her mother only let out a simple chuckle, her hand reach the golden hair of her daughter's. She calmly said
"You Will need it in the future, you can look up about their identites more if you look around the tower.
Ah... I also never tells you why we were here in the first place, haven't i?"
Catherine suddenly rose her head revealing her soggy pink eyes and a face full of question.
"Y- yeah! You always dodge my questions about it, b- but... Why?"
Lilian let out a gentle and calming smile
"Dear... That's for you to find out, the answer may not be in this tower. So, if seek for truths, you'll have to seek out to the world.
I've prepared much for you, and i truly hope that was enough.
There might be hard and heavy, and i might not been there for you, but you are my daughter, i trusted you and will always do"
Without her consent tears were running down Catherine's pearly pink eyes, she could'nt hold it any longer
"I am now old dear. My red heart might've turned grey now, but seems like my talking habbit hasn't grown off.
Dear, my loveliest daughter Cathrine, would you be so kind to accept my last will?"
"Ofcourse! Anything mother"
Catherine's voice began to crack
"If you come across your dad, tell him that... Sigh... I forgave him, and i do still love him, and maybe... Thank you for being a part of my journey..."
"Ofcourse mom! I- i'll make sure he Heard those words!"
"Catherine... Thank you my dear, you are my proudest masterpiece, my gift and my miracle..."
"Hiks... Hiks... M- mom?... N- no, wait mom!
MOM!!!"
At her 8 years of life, Cathrine lost the one who had lovingly took care of her, her only place to rest, her mother.
But that's only the beginning of her journey, with all the magic and sword knowledge she have, she will finally leave her nest, and embrace herself to the real world.
